Anything that is really worth owning in the +/- $200?

+1 for all the endorsements of the heritage roughrider 22lr/wmr. excellent value plinker and by-the-numbers learning tool. single action "cowboy" piece flies under the radar in antigun locales. for a bit more $ get a 9shot. 22wmr handgun specific defense rounds make it a credible protection piece.

Taurus PT111 G2. Best $200 gun out there and it's just the right size to be very concealable but still holds 12 rounds so it can double as a home defense gun. I have small hands but I can still get a full grip on it comfortably without any fingers hanging off.

Bud's is offering P64s for a little over $200. Of course, then he will have to pay shipping and the transfer fee.

I guess replacing the main spring with a 12 lb. one from Wolfe is pretty much mandatory.

You might find a used Kel-Tec for around that price. I paid $175 for my P11 in like new condition. I don't think it had ever been fired. Of course, that was 10 years ago and the prices are going up now that people are learning KTs are good guns.

In that price range, I'd consider:

SCCY CPX1/CPX2
Taurus PT111 G2
Taurus PT709 Slim
Rock Island Armory M200
Rock Island Armory M206
Zastava M70A
Zastava M88A
SAR B6P
SAR B6P Compact

All of those are not consistently right at $200 but I have seen/found all of them under $250 at one point or another. I avoided .380 because I'm not a fan unless you absolutely have to use it for concealment purposes, but there are a few in the price range as well. 9mm or 38 Special is as "light" as I would go.

The B6P was my first handgun, and I really liked it. I just decided I wanted an all steel handgun if I was going full size. I also owned a PT111 G2, which I liked except for the trigger, and subsequently sold to my father in law. The B6P ran me $250, PT111 G2 ran me $200.

Once again, PT 111 g2 Taurus is probably your best bet, for that kind of gun. Not much that can touch it in that price range...BUT, you really have to shop and be patient to get one for 200 even. I paid $239 for mine. Mine is outstanding, but I've started carrying revolvers instead.

I did pay $220 for a Taurus PT 740, but I still haven't shot it. It came with a factory bulldog case and a second extended mag, which the 9mm version doesn't come with, so you could say the cost of the gun itself was well under $200. I hear good things about these guns, but again, I haven't shot mine.

I would seriously look at the Zastava Tokarevs. Really cool. Not a compact, but skinny enough to be a CCW. Problem is, my 9mm version wasn't reliable, but chambered for the standard Tok ammo, they have a great reputation in that price range. Also, I bought a used Sigma S&W in .40 for $185, and it's great. Of course, the Hi Points can be great, too. My .45acp HP is 100% reliable, but my .380 HP isn't probably quite reliable enough for defense (but still fun...for a $139 gun :D ). The .45 is way too big to CC. Good luck.
