There are guns that I buy and keep, and then there are those that I decide that I don’t need and sell. Only to find that I miss one and end up buying another years later.

Case in point: the Ruger P-series
I’ve owned a P-95 and - IIRC - a P-85 at different times. I decided that they were too big, and not worthy of taking up storage space as range guns, so they were sold to finance some other acquisition. But now I realize that leaves s hole in my accumulation of wonder nines, so I found a fair priced P-89 and will be receiving it in the next few weeks. And - of course - it's needed to give purpose to those two old magazines for the P-series that I found in the back of the gun closet.

I've done the same thing for Bersa's Thunder 380, several Kel Tec models (P11, P32, P3AT), J C Higgins Model 20 shotguns, and even the Sig P226.

Does anyone else do this?

Only once: a pre-lock 3-inch S&W 317. Took me a long time to find this replacement. I have sold many others without regret.

Way back when I was in the early stages of firearms, I traded a High Standard "The Victor" with presentation case and counter weights.
As my enthusiasm increased so did my regret. About ten years ago I found one, w/o the amenities, in a FL LGS. Evidently the locals did not know what it was. I snapped it up at a very good price.

I let this one go to a local auctioneer last September, in a fit of retirement downsizing. Had it since the early 1990's and always liked it. Feel a connection to the Number 1, Mark III, Lee-Enfields as my paternal grandfather spent 17 or 18 months in France from late summer 1917 to January 1918 with the Canadian Army. Now I miss it.... Got plenty of other stuff I can unload to downsize........ WHY THAT ??????........ Now I want another one... IMG_1763.JPG

When I was younger, often I couldn't buy something new without the support of selling something "old" ... as my tastes expanded the problem became worse. One time I sold a KAC SR-25 Match to fund a Valmet 78 in 308 ... many times I passed on something like a Valmet 76 tube-folder with cheese grater hand guards in 7.62x39 for $800.

Back in '13 I had a life changing experience and started buying the ones I ended up regretting let go or passing on.

Twice.

Traded my first revolver, a blued 6" security six. I dont remember what I got but I missed the six.

The second wa an 8 3/8" blued S&W Model 57 41 magnum. That was sold when we bought the house and helped pay for appliances. I really missed that one too and bought another exactly the same. As I got older the weight on my hips got too much climbing mountains. Sold it and bought a 4" SS Security Six that I dearly missed.

Oddly the 4" Security Six got too heavy on my hips, I still need to get both hips replaced, and I let it go when I was given 4" Rhino. Believe it or not the Rhino just felt lighter and that's been my hunting sidearm since.

None of it really makes any sense. I still miss both of those sidearms.

Does selling then buying the same gun back 10 years later count?
I did that with a Turkish Mauser.
10 years is hell on your eyes when it comes to Mauser sights.

Did that a lot with Ruger Security Sixes; selling or trading them away til I didn't have any. Thought about going back and getting another one but I have a S&W Model 686 that serves me quite nicely in the .357 Magnum role.

Sold a Ruger Ultra Light .257 Roberts that killed my first buck, to a friend. Couple of years later he mentioned his kid never used it, so of course I bought it back from him.

As far as categories go, 1911s for me. Bought and sold about 6 of them.

As far as a particular gun twice, never the EXACT same gun. Sold off an M&P .380 sans laser. Bought one with an integrated one a couple years ago. Foolishly traded away my pre lock 686 when I was downsizing before my daughter was born. Recently bought a new one. Has the lock, but its a 686+ and feels like shaking hands with an old friend.

I sadly had to sell most of my guns years ago due to money problems. Sadly many of them will not be replaced due to my budget.

The last several years I have managed to buy some models that are a first for me. I've also managed to replace a few that I sold off.

2 years ago I replaced my Beretta CX4 Storm. Last year I replaced my Marlin 1894 in 357 and my Ruger P95.

I'd love to replace my Single Six, but the new ones are too expensive and the used ones I have seen have lived rough lives.

I'd also love to replace my 340PD, but they are so expensive. I have a Pico now which serves the same function. Its not as powerful, but its a hell of a lot easier to shoot and get in practice

At one time I had a Colt (LW) Commander in .45 ACP. In a fit of self-denial (I'm not a monk, but I do think like one at times) I sold it back to whom I had bought it. Who promptly sold it off.
After not more than a year, I replaced that Commander with a like Commander (in .45) that had King fixed sights and a serious trigger job. I've had that pistol nigh on to thirty-five years now and it's still my daily companion.

I have a Ruger No 1 in .257 Roberts. That's a great round. I'd really like to have a decent bolt gun in 25 Bob. But I'm not letting go of the No 1.

No . Gone is gone.
I let my one matching byf 43 P.38 go a while ago ; it did cause a bit of discomfort, but I knew I was not a collector and I had shown it off to anyone who was interested , twice. Out it went at a decent price , proceeds went to a great upgrade of a favorite 9mm shooter.

My very nice (and only) 100 year old Luger is next , same deal. It will hurt a bit , but it’s the right thing to do. Proceeds will go to .. another High Power maybe? I really like to shoot High Powers. Or I might just stock up on ammo , nice to have options.

My first revolver - a good looking Rossi (851?) , 4" K frame size ss .38sp. with a vented rib ala Colt ... sold it after I found out what a good trigger felt like.

I have made rational , measured decisions about each firearm I have let go. Gone is gone.

Not lately but back in the day I did that. I think I owned six different Taurus 85s over the years! All of 'em were problem free and I liked 'em but they never "stuck." I'd shoot one a while and rarely carry it, then trade it towards something or sell it, only to think, "hey, I really need an 85 for my tacklebox/glovebox/backup, etc." To a lesser degree that's me and the 1911, too. I'll buy one and shoot it on the range but ultimately I never want to carry a 40 oz steel gun that holds 8 rounds so I sell it...then I'll shoot someone's 1911 on the range and remember how much fun that 3 lb SA trigger is and kick off the cycle again.
