It was a Winchester 189? pump in .22 short,,,
I paid a whopping $5.00 for it at a farm auction.
This was around 1963 or 1964,,,
I was in Junior High then.
When I won the bid my Pop went to get the rifle,,,
When he got back with it the magazine rod was missing.
I was positive that it was there when I first saw the rifle,,,
But Pop said it wasn't.
Flash forward to about 1998,,,
Pop and I were talking about when I was a kid.
He finally admitted that he had removed the rod and trashed it,,,
He was adamant that I not own a repeater of any kind,,,
So he turned it into a single-shot.
The dang rifle was an incredibly precise shooter,,,
Pop couldn't shoot a "deer rifle" for spit,,,
But was a sniper with that Winnie.
When I joined the USAF in 1970 I gave the rifle to my youngest brother,,,
Much later on I found he promptly traded it for a bag of weed.
Go figure,,,
