So I can't manage to print the dang target right, Argh!. I want to play too. lol. More to come as I work it out.

Well, I'm no computer pro waterkc.
But it prints out correctly for me if I 'right click' on the target,
then select 'save target as'. Select a save location,
then you can print it from there anytime by 'right clicking' on it and selecting print,
but you have to de-select the 'fit to frame' option.
And now I'm confused! Hopefully someone else can explain a simpler way. :)

There are some great targets being posted.
Prone, sling-only. Very impressive shooting!

I shot a couple 124's the other day.
I'll have to try again.

I just save it to my desktop (anywhere else is fine too, it's just easier to find there), open it in Windows Photo Viewer, then print selecting "full page photo" on the right hand side.

Hope this helps. :)

I'm in! I believe we will fall into the "magnified unlimited target category". It was a miserable day for shooting today - hot, humid, sweat dripping down in my eyes - but I was determined to enter this, my first ever match of any type! I took a friend of mine, a former Army Scout Sniper, and he and I cranked off around 100 rounds each today. I shot two different types of ammunition - CCI, and Remington. I was surprised by the results, even though both were advertised as standard velocity, 40gr. bullets. The CCI's were LRN, the Remingtons were JHP's. Here's my results: dcfireman.gif

dcfireman2.gif

I scored the first target at 117pts, fired at 50 meters from my Savage Mk.II TR w/ a Savage 3-9x40 scope, from a BiPod + bench. Temp. = 96 degrees F, humidity 82%, elev. 257 ft. A/S. This was using the Remington JHP's.

I believe the second group (included for comparison) scores 106 - but I couldn't believe the impact shift - it was literally fired 1 minute after the first group; it was fired using CCI LRN ammunition. Both are 40gr. bullets, and advertise the same velocity. I too printed the target directly from my browser window - which leaves about a 4 inch white space at the bottom of the page... I'll get the hang of it next month...

To continue from my last post - here is my buddy Sniper Bob's target, for the "magnified unlimited target category":

sniperbob.gif

He fired it using my rifle, never having shot the Savage MkII before, same range & conditions, using the Remington 40gr. JHP's. I think his scores a 116. We both had a great time, and are waiting for next months target!

I don't know what Savage has done, but they certainly have lived down the reputation they used to have as a mass producer of second rate guns marketed under other brand names!

My left handed, pre-accu trigger, Mark II in 17Mach2 will shoot the eye out of a praying mantis at 50 yards if my tired old eyes manage to see it - I did have to get a trigger job done on it, but that was the only wart I could find in it.

Of all the different 17HM2 ammo available it likes the Eley stuff the best and that still seems to be the least expensive of the current options.

Prices have soared on all .17 ammo in the last year, but I was fortunate to find some at a gun show a while back for $20/500 so spent my whole ammo budget on 10000 rounds. Sealed it up in a new .30 caliber ammo can I got at the same gun show for $2.00. It don't get much better than that.

ok so they are printing right for me then. I was under the impression it should have printed on a full 8.5x11 sheet and not had the 4 inch at the bottom. I will shoot it this weekend, scan and post. Can't wait to see how I do.

This is so cool, lot of awesome shots. I can't wait to see how I stack up.

I noticed that too, dc.fireman.
I tried 5 or 6 different types of standard velocity ammo at 100 yards and CCI green tag dropped several inches more than the rest of them.
Accuracy wasn't too bad, the point of impact was just lower for some reason.

Yes, I think it's listed at 1070fps.
But the other ammo I tried was listed at similar velocities,(from 1050 to 1082fps).
For some reason the green tag dropped about 2-1/2" more than all the others,
But I suppose any ammo is going to shoot differently in different rifles.

CCI Green Tag is sub-sonic IIRC, which would account for the lower POI.

:)
True, but this was their Standard Velocity stuff - not their Green Tag stuff...

Here's what I used:
http://www.cci-ammunition.com/products/detail.aspx?use=5&loadNo=0032

When you compare it to Green Tag, it has exactly the same numbers... Had I known that, I would've chosen a different ammo! Oh well...

On a different note, for Mac users wishing to print these targets correctly, I figured out how:

1. Save the image at the top of the thread to your desktop.
2. Open it with your "Preview app." (control + click, then select 'open with' from your menu)

3. Once it's opened in Preview, hit Command +P on your keyboard (or just go to 'File', and then 'Print')

4. When your Print window opens up, you must check the box marked 'Print to scale' - once you have done this, a percentage number will pop up (mine was 56% by default), simply click on the box, and change the number to 100%.

Because the original target wasn't posted as an 8.5x11 sized target, it will end up cutting the white outer rings off of the sides, in order to scale the image to an 8.5x11 piece of paper, but it will give you a nice neat 1" bullseye in the middle, with all of the red target area from the original target.

CCI SV actually groups quite well for me.
Any difference in POI is easy enough to adjust for.

Some friends stopped in this evening while I was target shooting,
so I set em' up with some targets.
I thought they did pretty well!

Ans 54, 15X
Wolf MT
50 yds.

Figured it was about that time...

Wow Everyone, Really nice shots. I am shooting tonight. We will see how I stack up. DC.Fireman, thanks for the tip.

Whats the black target measure? Not sure I am getting it to print correctly. Mine measure 4 1/8 inch

Ha, I guess that would have been confusing. I printed mine in black and white. What does the 18 ring measure?

Was going to take the Mark II (.17Mach2) back out and try for that elusive 5X today, but we're in line for some severe T-Storms with big hail so think I'll either go to the indoor range with some test loads for my 98K Mauser or play with the little Norinco copy of the Browning .22.

Not going to enter the Mauser in the center fire match. Waiting on some Sierra Match King bullets to get here so I can make up some loads for my super accurate Mosin 91/30. They are on back order and the 91/30 "Pseudo" sniper shoots okay with the 150 grain Hornadys I have on hand but not good enough for match play to suit me.

BTW Maverick, My Savage Mark II is not modified from a factory sporting rifle. It's a stock Mark II made before the accu-trigger with the original wood stock and heavy barrel.

I thought I shot the match in Magnified Sporting Class, because I didn't use a rest other than the elbow of my off hand. If I had used a sandbag rest, I might have been able to get the 5 X's :banghead: Not sure if I specifically mentioned the class when I submitted the target, so leave it where it is. That will be fine with me.

Jim

Nope, you are correct. I probably just assumed that you were in the Unlimited Class because of your performance (despite your mention of Sporting as well as unrested & scope set to 10X)...I'll get you moved to your proper category. Excellent shooting!

:)

Hey that dang Savage Mark II keeps playing with me! Every time I get 3 or 4 good close holes then it flings one somewhere else (I know, I know, I get caught up in the moment and hiccup or jerk the trigger or something!)

You'd think after 20 years in the Army and a 15 year layoff from shooting I'd have unlearned all the bad habits by now.

Gotta admit though, this .17HM2 Savage is really the most accurate rimfire I've ever had in the cabinet. I've bought, sold, traded and given away more .22LR's than I can remember, but this is the first .17 I've ever owned, the first left handed action I've ever owned (I AM a lefty), and it ain't leavin' anytime soon.

Between this and my sometimes 1/4MOA Mosin 91/30 I'm not too worried about being able to keep meat on the table.

To be safe, I just ordered another 10K rounds of Eley .17HM2 ammo to make sure I don't run out even if they quit making it in favor of the .17 magnum stuff.

The 5X continues to elude me...

Well... I headed back out today for a good day of shooting - but still no 5X.

I tried out some different ammo this time - Federal Gold Match, Armscor Precision, Aguila/Eley, and drum roll please... Blazer. The results surprised me.

I also took the advice of one of my rimfire mentors, and went to a different range at the club - one that is a dedicated rimfire range. He explained that it's a consistent temperature, and the wind, if there is any, would be at my back. Man was he ever right...

I got the targets to print the correct size this time, and shot at 50 yards, as opposed to 50 meters.

The rifle is my daughters Savage Mk.II TR, with a 3-9x40 Savage cheapo scope, fired from a bi-pod, on the bench.

The weather was a fabulous 87F degrees - humidity somewhere around 22%, partly cloudy, mild breeze. I used one of my centerfire targets, to get things calibrated:
all22.gif

The Fed. GM is at the top of the target - it (or I, ) didn't do as well as I'd hoped.
The Armscor is in the middle - not quite what I wanted, so I shot another set, lower right... now things are picking up...except for that 4th round flier...

So directly below it, I shot the Blazer - Bingo! two rounds, nearly through the same hole... which leads us to:
Blazer3.gif

What I think is a 122-3X... (I'm not exactly sure how the score is calculated here, when it comes to the X's - are these correct?)

and:
Blazer2.gif

What I think is a 124-2X... the best I've ever shot anything in my life.

I think I've found the 'magic bullet' for this particular rifle - plain old $2 a box Blazer...

Are they planning to add .17HMR to their stable of fine rimfire cartridges?...That'd be nifty because, like I said earlier, it always did far better for me in my .17HM2. I expect the same would be true in the magnum as well. Wouldn't mind seeing Aguila start production either.

You got it. Xs are those lying completely within the center (25pt.) bulls.
