Does anyone here have any experience (either positive or negative) they would be willing to share regarding the Minuteman project? After several (minor) events in my life, I am thinking I'd like to volunteer some time with their cause to highlight how much illegal immigration is going on. Before forking over the $50 for their background check, however, I'd like to hear from someone who's "been there, done that".

Thanks!

Have you ever been a member of a community watch program or worked for a political cause?

Based on the few unbiased reports of their behavior, and assuming the organizers aren't lying about the "how to" of their stated mission, they're functioning just like the little old ladies in a Neighborhood Watch program: Just a larger neighborhood. They watch; they report to duly constituted authority. No more than that.

Me, I'd call them Good Guys.

Yes to both, and I thought they were rather enjoyable.

That's what I'm hoping, actually. I've seen talk about some of the other more ... militant ... groups who walk around fully armed, but I'm not looking for that. I don't really care if I'd be armed or not (although I'd probably carry concealed if I could, just because I usually do anyway).

I think I believe their information posted on their web site, but I'd still like to hear from someone who has actual experience with the project.

Thanks!

I’m curious what your definition of a militant group is and how it relates to the project? I’m not associated with the Minuteman but I have worked with a number of community watch groups- some armed some not.

White supremists and other groups of that nature. The "National Alliance" would be one such group, and is of the type that I wish to avoid.

I Was There

I volunteered and served 10 days on the Naco Line in April. I couldn't make the October activity due to financial constraints.

I too had concerns before volunteering. What I found was a really great gathering of people from all over the country with a common goal to secure our borders. It was a very positive experience as far as the other volunteers were concerned. The negative part was seeing first-hand how wide open our border is leaving our country vulnerable.

A lot of people had guns but you hardly saw them even though they were 'open carry'. A lot of people didn't have any. The Project rules forbade long guns, at least carrried or displayed. The briefings were quite clear about 'no contact', only 'observe and report'.

The background check became necessary when the operation expanded. The fear was that since it was so successful and was expanding, some caution in accepting further volunteers was needed. We got lucky with the first Project as everyone behaved well.

When my finances get better I am going to participate again or until the federal government does their duty.

The Project has been "successful" in that it has met its stated purpose of bringing attention to the problem. As an added benefit, a lot of illegal crossings are reported.

I hope you decide to participate.

I find the no longgun rule odd... Sure you could keep an AR, or M1A in the car. But what if one of those smugglers decides to shoot their way through the observers. Wouldn't you want a rifle close at hand?

I understand, I suppose the best thing for you to do is thoroughly investigate your suspicions before forming an opinion.

Glad to hear from you, keep up the good work.

Last night on CNN or one of those news casts, they were talking about the
minute man project. They had some activist that was born and raise in the
U.S. to Latino parents as this great hero of the "common people" (Their
words).
He is fighting the Minute man project calling it racist and everything else you
can think of. He was blaming the death of every illegal coming thru the
desert on the Minute men. The whole thing was so left wing that I had to
turn it off before I lost my dinner.

This really should show you whose side most of the Mexicans are on. Even the ones legal in this country. They are more loyal to Mexico then America

Wonder if that many Whites from Europe were coming over illegal how long it would take King George and the rest of the crooks to stop it.

Far as people being armed at the border. Only a fool would be at the border not armed. Guess some live in a dream world
