I am sure that when federal background checks begin, this will pop up.
I would seriously doubt this would ever come up during a background check, even if you applied to the ATF. Unless of course you actually did something illegal, which you say you have not. Even then it won't come up in a background check unless you are arrested, or charged with a crime.

Good luck finishing your studies, and good luck pursuing a career in law enforcement.

Sorry for the delayed update. Bought a new PC today and have been busy.

Okay, so I went to the local BATFE office today to surrender my grip fram and barrel. I did not need to turn in the comp nor the scope or scope mount.

I got there and was greeted by the agent outside the Strom Thurmond Federal Building. I gave him the parts and then went inside and through the metal detectors. We proceeded to go upstairs to their office that is within the huge building.

Once in there, I was asked to take a seat in a conference room. While sitting, another agent came and introduced himself and thanked me for cooperating the way I have and expressed his graditude.

One of the agents who came to my house came in the room and started filling out a form; something about items surrendered. It basically said that I had no rights to the parts listed -- barrel and frame.

I signed, he signed, the witness signed.

I pried a little, but they wouldn't tell me much. Found out there were 6 searches by some of the people in that office that happened yesterday. All of them turned up something. They said that the search after me didn't go so well and arrests were made.

Anyhow, things went over well and I was thanked many times.

Now, it gets better -- wait, there's more...

After about 1.5 hours of my being gone, my cell phone rings. It's my newfound friend, Mr. ATF. Guess what -- there has been some confusion and I can actually have my frame back; the only thing they wanted to keep was the barrel. So, we arranged to schedule a meet on Monday.

Go figure! Talk about a freakin' run around. Next, I'll get my frame back and then they'll take it again. New forms have to be filed, but no biggie. At least, in the end, I'll only be out the barrel and a couple of gallons of gasoline...

Sterling,

See if you can get some free swag when you go in next, ya know, for the effort. :D

Maybe they have a Junior G-Man badge or a pen or t-shirt or something they can give you.

Oh, and you could drop off some business cards, some of those guys might want a "bling" finish on their issue pistola.

LOL; that's great carebear! Maybe I should ask for a t-shirt or cap?

I agree about the bling-blingage. They need urban tigerstriped whatevers...

USMC...cheers !!! you got in...got out...and someone down there....is reading allot into his instructions..an idea..might be to get their full release on the parts coming back to you... as well as the form, or a void stamp, you signed... releasing it to them... this sounds like a time to cross ALL the T's...and dot ALL the I's. Clearly the barrel is legal to own--it's identical to the barrel sold on many P22s in the states... (isn't it?)

Is the problem that it was illegal for you to import it?

Maybe I dont understand, or I missed something...

It had <insert spooky voice> threeeeeeeaaaaaaaadssssssss.

Gotta go check the doors and windows, now I'm all freaked out.

Didn't it come stock from the factory in Germany? Wasn't it found legal for sale in the US by the ATF, or else it couldn't be sold? Why is it wrong for him to have a replacement barrel, when found not to be in possession of any forbidden inanimate objects, that was sold to him by a company selling other goods not approved of by the ATF? How is that his fault, so that he has to give up a legal-to-own barrel?

If I go buy a Chevy Monte Carlo, and it is found out later that a Metro is violating EPA regs, do I have to give my Monte Carlo to the EPA? :scrutiny:

Damn it Harry -- Why didn't I think of that?

Stickers have been slacking off; used to be I was getting 10-12 per day. Anyway, I digress...

I at least need to ask for a sticker. They owe me THAT much. :scrutiny:

A buddy of mine had a similar visit from the ATF this morning. He either had a barrel, and or the adapter (he honestly thought it was for cleaning, said it was for attaching a bottle of hoppes). I'm going to have a visit with him tomorrow and lecture him on being stupid.
