We SERIOUSLY need an applause smiley!

Applause for all of you who called and emailed and got the change made. Well done. You are a credit to the firearms community. I'm impressed.

Cool. I bet some Alamo's are very close though. $9 for a small bottle of lager...
To heck with the 30.06 sign. Nine dollar beer :what: is enough reason to not go there for me - well - that and the fact that I'm in OKC. ;)

Some of those $9/beers are pretty good :)

So I go there...but don't carry...because I am having a beer or two and queso is bad for bluing.

Cheers that common sense prevailed.

I think they should e-mail a thanks and insist that they come out and enjoy our sport. Take a 22 and some target or some clays and let them have a ball get them involved as well.

Now, my normal stance on this was, the sign was very, very, tiny too tiny in fact for these old eyes to see. Seeing that the required size by Texas law is 1" or larger and would take up almost and entire full sized door, I could never actually "see" a "legal" posting that I am required by law to notice before entering an establishment.

This is what I always assumed, but it is not correct. A legal sign will fit on an 8.5" v 11" regular sheet of paper. It won't take practically the whole door. I have started to look much harder now.

Well take a look how big this is...pretty darn big...now stick a 8 1/2 x 11" paper on the screen...

"PURSUANT TO SECTION 30.06, PENAL CODE (TRESPASS BY HOLDER OF A LICENSE TO CARRY A CONCEALED HANDGUN) A PERSON LICENSED UNDER SUBCHAPTER H, CHAPTER 411, GOVERNMENT CODE (CONCEALED HANDGUN LAW), MAY NOT ENTER THIS PROPERTY WITH A CONCEALED HANDGUN."

"CONFORME A LA SECCIÓN 30.06 DEL CÔDIGO PENAL (TRASPASAR PORTANDO ARMAS DE FUEGO) PERSONAS CON LICENCIA BAJO DEL SUB-CAPITULO H, CAPITULO 411, CODIGO DE GOBIERNO (LEY DE PORTAR ARMAS), NO DEBEN ENTRAR A ESTA PROPIEDAD PORTANDO UN ARMA DE FUEGO."

Cutting and pasting your text into a word processor and prinitng the letters came out a little less than 1/2" and it took two sheet of 8.5X11 paper. The law requires the letters to be 1" in heigth.

Using a Font size to get characters one inch in height it took 16 pages to get the entire text in both english and spanish to fit.

jdh, I got it to fit in only 4 pages!*

*This was on times new roman 72 point font, which I think is still a little small and removing ALL spaces from the text and removing all margins (top, sides and bottom).

On my computer/printer 72 font prints at just under 3/4" and it did fit on 5 sheets. 100 point font prints at 31/32" and took 16 sheets.

One of the hospitals in Austin had a legal sign up outside the ER. One night, waiting on a family member, I got a tape measure from the car just to kill some time and measured it. The letters were one inch tall and the sign was 2X3 feet.

Just played with it some more. Changing the font size to 105 the characters printed at 1". Changing the page set up to landscape with .1 margins it took 13 pages.

From the OP, talking about the 30.06 sign...
I was actually a bit insulted to see this. Getting a concealed handgun license involves fingerprinting, background checks and a mandatory ten-hour training class with a licensed instructor.

I don't get it. Some people get a CHL and then feel like they are somehow special in that they should not have to encounter the laws/restriction specifically denoted during the whole CHL education and testing process.

LOL, getting a CHL lets you carry a lot of places, but don't get pissed if somebody doesn't want you there with a gun. Yes, you can write to all your CHL buddies and post your complaint all sorts of places, but in the grand scheme of things, most businesses are not worried about the 2% CHL business they MIGHT lose. There are simply not enough CHL people to make such boycots effective.

BTW, only law-abiding citizens will honor a no-handgun sign. Criminals will not.

Apparently there is a notable percentage of CHL people who are criminals because they admit to ignoring such signs and have on forums such as this one, TFL, and Glock Talk.

Well, simply because we shouldn't have the stupid restrictions that we do.

It's not just about that, it's also about denying others that they do not intend on denying. Off duty police, or anyone from law enforcement for that matter must abide by the same rules. An officer then cannot carry unless specifically carrying in the capacity of his/her duty. Meaning that they got called to the scene to investigate something. So even an on duty officer that say happens to stroll into the quickie mart to get a sandwich cannot legally do so because they have not been called to investigate in their official capacity.

The same way that I saw a rookie that had not started his shift yet and got out of his private car to mail a package before going into work, but in full dress uniform with his sidearm in the post office. Little did he know that he had just committed a felony. Or I could be wrong, perhaps he did, and just didn't care.

Alamo Drafthouse

Great going guys. I haven't been there in a while, but I'll have to go in the near future and tell them that the fine people at the High Road recommended them. By the way are Tasers or pepper spray under that jurisdiction too? Glad I teach self defense, I'm always armed. Seen some good movies there, let's reward them by watching more there!
