Breaking: Omaha, NE mall shooting

i agree with Risasi i go there alot and never see no gun signs posted and there was 2 people taken away and another guy arrested in camo but there is nothing said about the shooter and a second person just died and 1 in critical condition
 
WHERE WAS GECKO45 he could have saved lives with his rapid reaction force.

Other than that I feel bad that situations happen like this, families get destroyed and people are hurt. Not to mention the damage that is done to gun rights.

I can not imagine how bad a mall is for tactical stuff, way too much open space.

UPDATE suspect caught under a bench at a bus stop.
 
The media will call it a "high powered automatic rifle" even if it is a slingshot. I will never forget a few years back there was a shooting in Georgia where CNN showed pictures early in the day of the local police holding up the shooters rifle, an M1 Carbine. CNN reporters called it an M1 carbine at that moment. Later in the day they stopped showing the footage of the LEO holding the rifle, and changed the name of the gun to a "high powered AK-47".

Gee do you suppose they did that on purpose?

I quit watching CNN and have never gone back. The rest of the news services followed...

I don't remember any signs posted. And I just looked through a local forum that posts all the NE "no guns allowed" signs. Neither Westroads, nor Von Maur are on the list.

I bet Westroads will have a sign now. Because signs are magical and prevent tragedies like this.

A Mall Ninja would have prevented this.

What could a Mall Ninja have done? Most I have seen are 60 or better, unarmed, way over weight.

I know there was talk of giving Mall Ninjas police powers in which they would operate under the "color of law" in NC, but I never heard anything else about it.
Realize that being armed only gives you a fighting chance in a confrontation, maybe. A sniper is a different matter altogether. No matter how well armed you are, you can fall prey to a sniper's bullet. I had a Ruger .308 77V in my car, when it was shot by some wannabe sniper in FL. I didn't even know the car was shot until I saw the roof the next day. I heard a noise like a wheel weight came off and that's it. The round didn't penetrate (thank God) the skin of the car, but put a groove in it about 6 or so inches long. I'm only thankful he wasn't a very good sniper, or someone would have been killed in the car.
To this day, the FL "295 Sniper has not been caught." :(

LEOs just had news conference. 9 dead 5 wounded. Gunman shot himself (cowardly:cuss:) shooter was male. Police response time was 6 minutes. Shooter used a rifle.
 
edited poor taste. "high powered" rifle is anything somebody in camo or all black are carrying. The media automatically assumes that it was something "elite"
 
Fearless, I think the idea with the mall ninja comments are an attempt to inject unwanted and unwarranted humor into the thread.

I'm not at all clear on whether the guy was caught/ found dead, but all I can say as a northern Virginian is this: be thankful that his spree doesn't cross into other states where they don't have the death penalty.

It was really interesting to hear Virginia tell Maryland and DC: "You can't have him, 'cause you won't punish him".
 
This crap gets to me so much. Why can't these lunatics just plug themselves and call it a day, or better yet go get drunk, fall down and sleep off the headache the next day and get OVER IT.

I mean I have never been even close to a point in my life where I have thought, you know what would be cool....lets go kill some folks today. I have been laid off, I have had my ups and downs, I have had relationships fail.....yet I have never once thought about hurting anybody other then myself (well my liver actually.) ARRRRGHHHHHH:cuss::cuss::banghead:

Nebraska has CCW. I have my CHP. Omaha Malls allow NO WEAPONS AT ALL, concealed or OPEN....... I stopped going to the Omaha malls after I started carrying.

As for the perp getting a ride on 'Ol Sparky, we had 4 POS crankhead thugs walk into a bank and KILL EVERYBODY in Norfolk, NE awhile back........ they are trying to get those death sentences carried out, but it won't happen any time soon. We need what Ron White called Texas' "express lane"......... If you murder someone and 2 witnesses saw you do it, "Front Of The LINE, Buddy!"
 
Also of note: a LIVE hand grenade was found in the parking lot of the same mall Friday night...........

I believe this shooting has something to do with George Bush's visit to nebraska. Something he has cut is causing problems for people and someone took it out on innocent people. But it is what it is. I just wonder if Bush's people are going to cheat us out of another election?

She said she was doing Christmas shopping at Younkers, and an announcement was made that no one would be allowed to leave. Just before 2 p.m., Barrett said, another announcement was made that shoppers could leave but would not be allowed back in.

Can someone explain to me why they LOCKDOWN the mall? I would think that all the unarmed people are going to be running willy-nilly for the exits and they're going to try and keep them inside...just doesn't make sense...

I understand they'd want to catch the bad guy and not let him get out and disappear with the crowd...but the whole concept of keeping unarmed people locked inside just doesn't seem to make any sense.

Do these people even realize how idiotic this is? GWB has cut NOTHING. Spending has gone through the roof. And having some government boondoggle cut is now justification for mass murder?
 
a lockdown confines the damage... the idea being that if everyone is locked down, movement is restricted and less people get hurt... no one dares consider what might happen if the BG gets locked in a store with 30 innocents... nope, instead they put up signs saying "no guns allowed"
 
People just have to look for something to blame......other then the bat@% crazy folks who actually do this kind of thing of course.
 
They found a live grenade at the same mall recently.

I wonder if this is another present from the religion of peace?

It seems quite possible the grenade and the shootings are not coincidental.
