EDIT: D'oh...I even looked to see if someone else had posted this but missed it. Oh well.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - California's attorney general wants to crack down on gun violence by laser-branding all handgun bullets sold in the state with tiny identification numbers nearly invisible to the naked eye.

...

The article does mention a possible exemption for reloaders:

Under the plan, all ammunition sold in California would have a serial number etched by laser on the bullet and casing. Bullets without such micro-markings, including those from outside the state, would be barred by law, with some exceptions for sport shooters who make their own ammunition.

More uselessness. Read the testing procedures at the company that developed this nonsense. Their testing medium was CHIPPED TIRES?

hahha have they ever seen a bullet after it hits its target theres no way in heck they are going to be able to read whats written on it 90% of the time.

Or what about frangible bullets or shotgun pellets???

Everybody better pay attention to this.... if it gets passed into law for california, it won't be too much longer before it is used as the shining example for a federal law.

How much you want to bet that law-enforcement would be exempt? Wouldn't want the ammo cost for police agencies to sky rocket or worse yet be able to trace a murder back to a bullet registered to a leo

Unload a full mag on the AG and see if the codes are legible....I am kidding agent X....it's a joke....humour...the debates made me temporarily insane.

How about printing the U.S. Constitution on each bullet and imprinting numbers on each sheeple?

The suspense is over. As soon as the last legislative session was over, I was wondering what boneheaded proposals they'd come up with for the next session. I also figured they'll resurrect some failed proposals and try again with different versions of the vetoed bills. It simply never ends.

Each year, more anti-gun bills pass, occasionally a couple of them are vetoed, but the bottom line is that our rights are continually eroded.

That, along with fingerprinting everytime you purchase rounds would definately prevent me from lending a few bullets to anyone! Be my luck one would show up in a murder victim. Definately going to be watching my ammo a little closer if it passes...

This isn't about working. This isn't about being able to solve crime. This isn't about if you will be able to read the number of a mushroomed bullet or not.

This is about banning guns.

This is about passing laws that will make importation of ammunition impossible without significant changes to the manufacturing process.

They know the Federal and Remington et al, will not be able to conform to their legal demands for a few years. They might not even try.

They know this idea might not even be feasable. They know this, they don't care. The fact that it might be impossible is even better for them.

I don't know what to say about California. I used to believe in their fight for 2nd Amendment rights, because I don't want "ideas" and "laws" being authored and spawned over there and coming MY way. BUT, and this is a big but, California is HOPELESS. If they ban guns there, it might be a good thing since only then will their crime skyrocket and we can all see their social experiment fail - like DC. California is in such bad shape in the gun issue that a total ban on guns in California is inevitable. The writing is on the wall. In my opinion, they have surpasses ALL states for their vile gun-hating culture. They are the most active and promoting and acting state on gun control.

No matter what they do, or WE do - indirectly throught NRA/GOA, California is a lost cause. The gun owners there have been over run by liberals and socialists and they cannot compete with all the hollywood types and the school system.

Sorry for being so pessimistic. The only positive about California, is that the gun control war is being fought over there, instead of other parts of the nation. At least when it comes to the forefront radical gun control ideas.

The article does mention a possible exemption for reloaders:

This is just a teeny, temporary bone for gun buffs. Shortly after this moronic law passed, they'd be calling this exemption a "loophole" and demanding it be closed.
