Try coming to TEXAS!!!! Galveston, Padre Island, Corpus Christi, all have great beaches, great fishing, and ALL are gun friendly!!! I don't know if your permit is good here, somebody will, hopefully, confirm the current law.

Well, george, I thought you were wrong I really did. It turns out I'm NOT right in that he would have the same rights as a NJ citizen prob is he's got to get a out of state FOID card

Having gone through the ridiculous resident FOID card I can't imagine the time it takes for a non-resident Keegan, George my apologies

No need to apologize to me qwert. These insane laws are almost impossible to keep up with.
And it takes a big man to admit an error in public no matter what the stakes.
So if I'm ever in NJ :uhoh:the next Bud's for you.:)
And oneshooter, Kentucky's CHP is good in Texas. So he can come on down to those beaches.
My brother lives in Corpus. So I know first hand those great sandy spaces you're talking about.

OC is illegal in NJ last I checked unless it is 3/4 of an oz or less just FYI
You've got to be kidding me. After what I've read, why would anyone want to live in this place????????

And believe me, I would MUCH rather be going to Texas!

Can you find no other place besides this god awful People's Republic? Besides being a de facto no issue state with regard to CCW licenses, people without licenses are not allowed to have firearms, even inaccessible and unloaded, unless they are going to or from their homes, a shooting range, a gunsmith, or are moving. Even then, you are only allowed to be on the most direct route between the two points; no miscellaneous stops allowed. So, if you must vacation there, just save yourself the headaches and leave your guns at home.

Maybe instead of a gun, just take a BB pistol or a wrist-rocket or something. Just to have a few seconds to flee. ;)

Possession must be legal at all locations of the final destination
I just read the requirements of 18 USC 926 Sec.926A. It doesn't say that the destination has to be different from the state the journey began.

If you leave your home state and go through another state and spend the night with the intention that you are going to your home state, then the requirements of 18 USC 926 Sec.926A should allow you to carry anything you can legally posses in your home state as long as the storage requirements are being met.

Plan your trip to leave your state on one highway and return on another.

I'm not sure how "I'm going to my sisters house by way of New Jersey, even though she lives down the road from me in my home state" would fly but it is technically within the word of the law.

"I'm Just passin through" Can be a powerful statement.

I think you have to be building a wall or something, to handle a rock. ;) I am not kidding when I say I heart N.J. I may be in minority and don't live there, but after a long and stressful hassle; I was forgiven for a long past trip through that great state. Or I wouldn't be here. Even thinking of guns hurt. They aren't so bad. :)

Well, that's a good try but legally it just won't work. And Keegan is not just passin' through. He's going to spend several days at Ocean City.
There is no getting around it.
Under Keegan's scenario he is not legal under FOPA 1986.
Evan Nappen is NJ's(and one of the U.S.A's) premier firearms attorney.Lets let him make the final call:

Yup. Wasnt it NJ where a guy was fling from state A to state B, but hada connecting flight/plane change in Newark, and his connection was cancelled, so he had to stay overnight there, and was arrested and put on trial for the gun he had in checked luggae, because NJ said the FOPA didnt apply, since he wasnt just passing thru anymore, he stopped overnight (even though it wasnt palnned or by choice)? I think he finally won the case, after much time and $$$, but ONLY becasue the stop was unplanned, and unavoidable. NJ, however, dint care, and arrested him anyway, it took the federals court to set him free. I wouldnt risk taking so much as a BB gun into NJ if I were stopping in the state for any reason.

Not worth the court costs, even if you are 100% in the right, and NJ knows it. Seems the dont care, as its not thier money they are spending (free, unlimited taxpayer money) and they are more interested in makign a "point" about guns, than being legal or right. (at leats in that 1 instance anyway).

The Delaware beaches are great, I've spent a many summers and weekends there, and I actually flew back from Thailand to go to a party there once... and it was the right choice! I don't know what your budget or situation is but, I'd recommend Rehoboth (or even better unincorporated Sussex county between Rehoboth and Dewey) There is more to do than in Bethany and Fenwick. Dewey has the best nightlife (if no kids) but don't stay in it. Dewey has more police than eligible voters- seriously- and all the police are 18 year old kids with badges and ticket books looking to make a name for themselves- it is literally mall ninja paradise (No gun, limited training, lots of rules, golf carts and real badges.) There is also an EXCELLENT bow hunting/archery store- run by a family that lives and breathes bow hunting down there if that is your inclination. And best of all... NO SALES TAX!

Don't spend your hard earned money in New Jersey especially down the shore; if

they have policies (laws) which you do not support. You may not be a resident but

you can still vote with your dollars. I grew up there and I am not going back; the

place is a cess-pool of political wills and liberal double speak.:fire:

If you know whats good for u, u wont bring anything to NJ..

Wait a minute. All the rants about NJ aside. It is not illegal to posses a pistol there. Nor does one need a permit to posses a pistol there. You only need a permit to PURCHASE a pistol in NJ. Your magazines all have to be less than 15 rounds. No HP bullets either. You cannot CCW there without a permit, but I believe that you are OK to bring your guns with you if you want to shoot them at a range or store them in you residence. It's NYS that requires the permit to even have a pistol. Would someone dispel the rumors please? Yes, NJ is bad for owning weapons but that doesn't mean we should post inaccurate information concerning NJ gun laws.

You have to weigh up the consequences versus the responsibility you owe yourself and your family. If you understand and accept the risks associated with being unarmed in New Jersey, then definitely leave them behind to be on the safe side. I personally would still carry.

So I'm in NJ now- left everything at home except the SAK. The town we're staying in is pretty nice, so needing a gun seems extremely unlikely. Plus, I see a cop at least every 10 minutes when we're out. I think not carrying actually makes it feel a lot more like vacation.

Enjoy the boardwalk....wish I could be there instead of down here in sweltering Georgia! Oh and have a slice of Mack and Manco's pizza for me while you're up there. ;)

I was born in Asbury Park, a few miles north of where you are. I could never move back there, but the one thing I will always miss is the Jersey shore. As long as I've been away, I can still smell the ocean and feel the ocean breezes.
Enjoy your visit. Be aware, if you drove there, your out of state plates will be noticed by every cop in the area(half my family were cops, I've seen this before). Behave, have fun, don't get too sunburned.

I'm pretty sure NJ doesn't require pistol registration, only that you have a permit to buy. If you were to move there for instance, you wouldn't need to register any of your guns, it's only if you purchase guns while there. I'm pretty sure you can bring your guns with you too, you just can't CCW them.

The last time I was in NJ, I found a sporting goods store that had a couple Marlin .22's on a rack in the back. When I said that I didn't have a state FOID card, they wouldn't let me near them. I couldn't buy ammo, I wasn't allowed to handle any gun, and the more questions I asked, the more I got the impression that the sales man thought I was some kind of government spy trying to entrap him. Kinda sad really---!

Keegan, you have stumbled onto our secret. We start these rumors to keep you all out! Please stop making positive comments about my state:)

Enjoy your stay. The weather has been nice and the water temp gets into the 70s this time of year.

Ha! I am heading out on Vacation Saturday,,, I am going to VA Beach, and I will be able to carry there on my FL permit! Although. sisnce my hotel is beach side. I think I will pass on swimming and body surfing with my gun. :) I will carry it on the boardwalk and Atlantic Ave at night though...

Glad you are enjoying your vacation Keegan. For a few years I would vacation down in Cape May with my ex-girlfriend, I am glad those dark days are over... And it wasn't all due to NJ if you catch my drift!! ;)
