I went to a nearby gunshop this evening, I was looking to get a couple mags to use for a training im going to soon. Well I hand the mags to the clerk (3 mags) at the front and he says 17 dollars but I paid him no mind thought he was just kidding me, well I get home and discover that he stuck all three mags in the bag and only charged me 17 dollars dont laugh but I felt kinda guilty,, well
I did what I thought was right , I took them back and told the manager about the undercharge, I visit there often but they are a little high , but have good stuff most of the time. he says "good man" and so does the clerk, I put a eotech
511 for my STG 58 , as I pay on my layaway, he slides me a box of 308 win to feed my fal . Just saying there are still some good shops out there and asking would you have done the same?

Still Some Good Shops Out There?

For me, it's nice to see there's still some good people out there. Nice job!

It all comes down to Karma. However you feel that affects you.

I pretty much always let a clerk know if they undercharged me. I've done enough work behind the register to know what a PITA it is at close to come up short on your register. It's pretty hard to do though, with computers and all.

I would have done the same also in this situation. However once at a chain gunshop in my area long ago... I was purchasing an Uncle Mikes grip for a GP100 and a box of .357mag ammo and some other small item I can't remember, would have been like $20-25.

I didn't see a designated place to put away the shopping basket I used in the store. As I put it away under the counter and out of the way the cashier snapped at me and told me to put it somewhere else in a tone I reserve for naughty children.

As he charged me $5 for my purchases while doing so, I smiled, paid, and walked out to my car:)

i pay cash for supplies a lot i bought 4600 bucks of hardiplank from roof center. next time i went in there was a 100 dollar positive balance on nmy account. apparently i had 2 100's stick together. they balanced drawer and were 100 over i was only large cash sale so they figured it hada be me and credited my account. they get my buisness. and they aren't always cheapest. there are good folks out there.

Doing right is always the right thing. Years ago I was getting quotes on a new washer and dryer. Stopped at one of the local places and the owner wrote my quote out. I shopped around the rest of the day and his price was FAR better than anyone else. I go back and he looks at the quote that he wrote and said that he really messed up. Now he wrote it, and even though it was going to be a $150 loss for him, he offered to honor it. I thought about it for just a min, and decided that while I could sure use the "discount" that I would not hold him to it. He did sell me the set at his actual cost, and since then has always given me a little better discount on anything I buy from him. I figure that in the long run I have saved more money than I would have from buying the set at his mistake cost.

It shows the base line of your upbringing. Things like only keeping the correct change, or holding the door for a stranger, or taking your neighbors mail over to them when it gets put in your mail box.

We should "do unto others"...even if it doesn't come back to us very often.

Good on you. Enjoy that box of .308!

Mark.

I'm still looking for the poor gun show vendor who sold me two boxes of .38spl +p. I paid with $100, but I think he gave me back even more than that, AND the ammo.

A lot of times, I'll just cram change into my pockets rather than sort all my money facing foward, largest to smallest, etc in a shopping line.

All I know is I bought about $50 worth of knick-knacks that day, and when i was arranging my money later, I had more than I did when I first got to the gun show. It had to be the guy I bought the ammo form... it was the only large bill i used.

Did good. I'd do the same thing.. However I must say that if the local supermegamart didnt charge me for a drink, I'm walking.

if I had noticed it before I used all of the product, I would go back. Usually, I wouldn't notice. I bought a small amount of ammo today, and only on the ride home from the range did I realize how much I actually spent.

I've always been a big believer in Karma. I'll pull over to help someone stranded on the highway every once in a while (only if i'm armed; can't be too careful).I have found in my life that Karma=dollars. I do good deeds and it gets deposited in my Karma account, which I can spend later, but not always when I want to. For instance, I used to pull peoples' cars out of their own holes in the beach in Daytona Beach for nothing. Some gave me a few bucks, but I never charged. A few months later, I got a screaming deal on a sailboat. My Karma dollars at work.
You did the right thing, and it will come back to benefit you.

I would have done the same thing mate. You did good. It is an honorable thing, those shops need to make a living, and accidents happen.

Bravo to you :)

Good for you and them.

It's good for you since you'll be remembered and possible get small breaks once in a while. Those add up. Good for them because they've got a customer they can trust to be honest.

Bought a rifle and reloading stuff once, owner added it all up, I wrote the check. Got home, there was a message on my machine, the addition was almost $100 off. Him being a small shop, he was slmost pleading for me to pay the balance. I did because I wanted the stuff and had been agreeable to paying the prices marked on everything. Fast foreward to my wife buying a shotgun there. He remembered the incident and gave us a VERY good deal on a Winchester 1300 for her.
