Disney World and CCW

Yes, I'll admit, I am playing a guessing game, of sorts, regarding when I might actually need a sidearm. But, I am making an intelligent choice, based upon the situation, not rolling a apri of dice to see what comes up. Yes, I have put up with the discomfort/inconvenience before, and will do so again. (I have a fondness for cargo pants. A good pocket holster and my Smith 649 ride pretty well in the thigh holster, with the velcro flap instead of a button.) There are simply times I choose not to carry a sidearm.

By the way, no offense taken, in the least. ;)

Tripple zip. Nice handle.
Back to theme parks. I don't carry at theme parks myself. While I don't care for (throw up) type rides I do go on some. The (remote) chance of my gun getting loose is enough for me. Plus I have a knife for close in work.
I figure between the knife/light I am covered. (they do have fair amount of WATCHERS. Not sure how many active security they have but most parks have watchers.
I got caught at Disney with my knife once. It was hooked on outside of pocket as I was taking pics of the 50 some mickey Mouse statues. Lady says something like. "whatever that is on your pocket would you please stick it down lower before you step up here" I do she smiles and says "enjoy your visit" :)
I have always put it right back after entering. Carryed my fanny pack and nobody has checked (other ) pockets. It is (feel good) security. about 3 steps below the TSA.
I do chose when/where I carry. Some of you want to slam me I really don't care. Don't tell me where I CAN'T carry (legally) I want to carry to church (seldom do) I will. Civilization has tried to breed out the instincts/feelings when something is wrong. I prefer to listen to them/and common sense.
Driving 3 hrs at night (carry) Going to neighbor to visit (gun stays in car) Going to town for groc (70%no carry) Going to dinner/movie 70% yes.

Wow THR arrogance is thick in this thread. I thought personal attacks were a big no.

And

Carrying a weapon into family theme park is well stupid.

Hmmm, these came out of the same post? Something doesn't compute.

(I guess that I am, well, stupid. I have carried into WDW numerous times without problem. No signs, no qualms, no problems. As has been stated both here and elsewhere, criminals just love unarmed victims.)

You seem to be a double talker QUIOTE

If it wasn't for "stupid tourists" there would be no Orlando. It would still be a swamp in the middle of nowhere.

Problem Orlando was in the middle of an orange Grove. Hence the Name orange blossom trail, it is a road down town.

Did I ever feel a need for my CCW while in the park. No, but one never knows. However, you encourage me to use public transport to get to the parks. You bet your bottom dollar that I see a need to carry in those circumstances.

Problem something doesn’t compute. SEE ABOVE POST So what’s the truth?
That’s no a very HR attitude see his other post page 2

Remember just after Florida enacted a CCW? If I remember correctly, "stupid tourists" were being targeted by criminals specifically due to the fact that the bad guys didn't want to tangle with armed Floridians, but saw unarmed "stupid tourists" as an easy mark. As a result, Florida did two things: 1) made it illegal for rental car companies to mark their cars, and 2) enacted non-resident CCW.

Problem Yes I do remember. They robbed any one with a marked car including locals. You seem a little basis

Now, as a "stupid tourist" who uses public transportation, and who spends large amounts of my hard earned cash in your state, I am very happy that I am allowed to carry.

Problem you have a bad attitude and may need a time out and large amounts of cash? Well that’s just poor taste. With large amounts of Flow why do you need Public transportation?

Well like just like normal, more questions than anwsers

As a Florida resident since 1989 ( almost makes me a native ) I have done the Theme Park routine many times, and through personal choice have always been armed just in case "Mickey or Minnie go Postal" I believe in the Maxim, CONCEALED MEANS CONCEALED, and carry accordingly. I wholeheartedly concur with those of us who raise concerns about discharging a firearm in a crowded venue like Disneyworld, however basic gunhandling rule # 1 or maybe 2,3,or 4 (whatever) covers that nicely. "Know your target when you pull the trigger." Rest assured you will be held accountable for every round you discharge. This is also answered with another saying, Better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6.

There are any number of locations in our theme parks where IMO it is not safe to be unarmed. The parking lots are patrolled but not often enough to guarantee immunity from the occasional Miugger,Robber or Rapist, and if memory serves me correctly, there have been several assaults in Mickeys Kingdom.

I agree that RKBA affirms my decision to accept responsibility for the safety of my family since the Police have no duty to do so, and I support others right to do likewise. As a retired LEO, I have a few concerns over some of the attitudes taken towards the discharge of their CC weapons when and if the SHTF. Some comments sound like the Orater fully expects to engage the enemy at any time.

If I were going to worry about unsafe situations while visiting WDW, I would be much more concerned with fueling up at the local Stop and Rob in the areas adjacent to the Theme Parks as they are not the choicest of locations, and are not inhabited by Saints.

One final comment directed at those who choose to denegrate my adopted State with its shortcomings, Slow drivers, crowded roadways, high prices at the Theme Parks, etc. As I watched the Weather tonight and cussed under my breath when the local corcast was for highs to be in the 50s, (Too Damn Cold) I chuckeled when I heard the forcast for "UP NORTH" where the temps. would not reach 0 for a high, and I remembered why I moved to Florida. To those who don't like it here, I 95 runs North as well as South so don't let the door hit you in the a** on the way out.

FL resident since 1955, here. (except for a few months as an infant.)

...back in 1951. We got along just fine before The Mouse took over half of that county. Orlando was a nice sleepy little town before the NASA/Martin-Marietta boom, but at least that gave us intelligent guys who improved the general run of inhabitants. The Disney thing... well I can't imagine Walt wanted anything like what they have there now. I think Roy Disney resigned from the board of the company lately, he being so revolted by what the current management is doing.

in all my years of spending time on property I have NEVER felt the need to have my gun
Have you ever felt the need to have your gun anywhere? If so, did you use the gun? No? Well, then your little internal barometer is off and it's better to have it and not use it than not have it.

and btw .. if your from out of FL and comming here on vacation please don't drive .. take cabs or stay on Disney property and use their transportation .. I am just getting more and more tired of all the stupid tourists here .. and you will never understand till you live here and put up with it every day .. I think I'm done ranting now .. feel better now too .. thanks
Dude, quit your whining and move.

Now on to the high crime rates in Florida remarks. The crime right here is down, way down, but I only know the stats they give me at work.

Just to set the record straight, in the year 2000, Florida had the 2nd highest total Crime Index and had the highest occurrence of violent crime in all 50 states.

The good news is that these numbers have been dropping since the late 80's/early 90's, so I don't know what the stats are for 2004/5.

Last time I went to Disney World was in 2000 on business trip/sales meeting. Prior to that, we lived in Orlando from 1986~1988. Pick up trucks, gun racks, and Epcot still under construction. I didn't recognize ANY of it in 2000!

Been to Disney Land three times. The mouse police are unobtrusive, but they are everywhere. Their take downs can be pretty insane. Saw two of them. Both at the ticket/entrence area. Trouble started brewing with some older teens (a common problem at the theme parks) and from everywhere the Mouse Police arrived. None were uniformed, but they worked fast and furious. Punks on the ground and crowd dispersed quickly. I know there has been more then a few questions about their willingness to cooperate with local law enforcement regarding issues on their property. I haven't been since 2000 to that park either. Don't recall security being too extreme. If you CCW properly, I don't expect they will find it. However, my understanding is that the policy is "no guns". Their park. Their rules. Don't spend the money there if you are going to have a problem with their policy. Don't have a problem with the policy. Same rules for life. Don't go where you're not wanted and you can avoid most confrontations. If you're looking for a fight, you're most likely going to find one.

Having lived in Florida (Orlando and Miami), Hawaii, and Southern California, I find the comments about tourists pretty funny. Hawaii and Florida without tourism would be sorry states indeed. Aside from drug money, tourism is the primary source of state income. At least in California we have a more diverse economy, but it's still heavily tourist related in many areas.

I live in Michigan, and we see thousands of Florida plates here in this state. Especially during the summer and fall. Fall in, say, Tahquamenon Falls is loaded with Floridians during these 2 seasons. Yet Do we complain about the Floridians coming up here and bothering us? Nooooooo.

Even though their driving skills totally SUCK!
