Do You Carry Concealed into your Church?

The parish I attended got a new priest , a self-proclaimed , outspoken liberal. He had all doors placarded : "House of Peace - no weapons allowed". I stated that the signs should read "Unarmed Christians inside - No bag limit!".

I left that parish , and yes I carry each Sunday. It is only sensible.

I think as you do, if someone wished to make a scene what better target then a church. I hate the way the churches are built, at least the ones I am familiar with, doors behind you, pews to be trapped in, ect. Because of these and other facts, yes I carry in church, remember something about God helping those who help themselves.

Many Churches in Chicago found that cars in the Church parking lots were stolen or broken in to during the service (a one hour head start for the crooks). They employed armed security guards-problem solved. With so much religious strife worldwide, I would feel much safer armed in any house of worship.
Now that we have CCW in Illinois I intend to carry everywhere permitted.

Our church has a security team and the head of the team is aware of most CCers in the congregation. I sit in the same row most Sundays. (You have to get there real early to get a seat in the back of the house.) I've gone through scenarios in my mind of what to do should a shooter burst through a door, particularly the nearest one. The world isn't the same and prudence and caution are required.

With the rising tide of islamic terrorism, NOT being prepared is a mistake.

The moslem raison d'etre is to force all infidels to convert, pay jizya tax or be killed.

The recent actions of the Garland Texas islamic terrorists should be not only yet another wake up call, but also a blueprint for response to "religious" criminals.

And yes I carry to church

I don't have my carry license yet, but when I do I do plan on carrying in church. As others have said, they are seen as an easy target. I would/will discuss it with the church leadership, and if they are uncomfortable I will abide by their wishes. I know others might say I should quit attending if that were the case, but I attend the church where my father ministered for 23 years before passing away this past Christmas. The church is really more family to me, in much the same way if my mother told me she was uncomfortable with my carrying in her house I would abide by her wishes and visit her.

Legally armed citizens in SC cannot legally carry in a place of worship without express permission of the appropriate church authorities. While some of my friends claim they have received such approval to carry from their pastors, the overwhelming majority of churches frown on guns in church. Or at least they did. Let's see if this changes any opinions.

In GA you need church leadership approval. It's important enough to seek the approval and always carry IMHO. There are no "safe" places, particularly not in traditional gun-free zones. The law making carry in churches legal in GA was passed last year.

I carry anywhere I can stash it. I rather be alive. SC is a good example where the law failed again.

Another good example of how we believe we have freedom to protect ourselves and those we care about until the veil is pulled back and we're in the same place as in that Cafeteria in Killeen Tx. all those years ago.

SWMBO just rolled her eyes when I said, "That's why I carry at church." I guess it's not real for some until it happens to them.

Sure, the odds of it happening at my church are small. I bet if you'd asked anyone in that congregation in SC, they'd have said the same thing. Until it happened.

Keeping the families of the victims in our hearts.....

I have seen this thread on here for a long while,... wanted to reply to the question after thinking on it real hard. Conflicted with the two sides, House of God vs self defense, I had hesitated to reply. The events of last night settled the debate. Yes, I will carry. I figure if the good Lord don't want me to respond, he will make me victim #1.

I grew up in Charleston and live only 90 minutes away now. I have a son living in Charleston. So, this tragedy is especially difficult for me.

S.C. law requires the permission of leadership of the church. I carry every Sunday and any other day of the week I may be on church property. It's not productive to speculate since we weren't there, but it is hard to imagine the death toll reaching nine if someone there had been carrying.

Of course the longtime mayor, Joe Riley, has already made the statement "there are just too many guns out there".

Wrong Mr. Mayor. There were one too few guns in that church last night.

In my capacity as coordinator between different church teams, I deal closely with our security team. I can assure you that we will be meeting today or tomorrow to discuss our level of preparedness.

We may never know the motive, 90% chance this guy will end up with a self inflicted head wound or else a stupid grin on his face and a crazy plea.
There's no doubt in my mind that evil needs to be stamped out as soon as it gets started.
Any accounts as to why the shooter stopped? If anyone made a defensive/counter effort?

Don't know why he stopped. I just assume that he had shot everyone in the room with the exception of the one lady he spared so that she could "tell what happened here". Guess he had no more targets.

At least the church had cameras to get an idea of what the suspect looks like. It won't be long before he's either brought to justice or he kills himself (or tries to kill himself).

Turns out that the kid used a .45 that his Father gave him in April for his 21st birthday. Oh boy, that will go over big with the anti gunners. Get ready for another round of gun ban hysteria.
