Do You Carry Concealed into your Church?

I'll bet church going people will carry now after today.

Maybe, maybe not. Plenty of people view an event like this shooting to be "The will of God" that is no different than if a church bus had crashed and killed a bunch of people.

Just heard Obama speak " another example of how easy guns are to get, we must do something about this "

Right. A few people will talk big about carrying in church, but as with every other crisis event, typical Americans will resume their normal routine, even gun owners, and continue their lives just as before.

When was the last major church shooting? How often are their mass church shootings? How many of us have been directly affected by a mass church shooting?

If this sort of event is why you decide to carry at church, then you really don't understand the need for self defense in general. The odds of being in a mass church shooting are so freakishly small as to be practically non-existent for any given individual as compared to any other risks they may face, such as being otherwise robbed, raped, assaulted, or murdered.

The realistic danger isn't a mass shooting by a stranger. If you fear mass shootings, fear being killed by somebody you know in some sort of domestic event, likely in your home or a home of somebody you know and are visiting. These happen on a very frequent basis.

Turns out that the kid used a .45 that his Father gave him in April for his 21st birthday. Oh boy, that will go over big with the anti gunners. Get ready for another round of gun ban hysteria.

Living in the area this tragedy is particularly sad, but from a legislative perspective that may work our favor.

It was a handgun - NOT an "assault weapon". Very few .45's carry more than 10 rounds (and even those that do carry 12-13 at most) and so they can't really blame this on "high capacity magazines" either.

The push will be that the gun was a gift. They'll probably make another mad dash at "universal background checks" over this one.

Apparently guns weren't easy enough to get.... as none of the people shot in the church had one.
That's essentially what the guest ex-judge on Fox said this AM -- that the shooter reportedly reloaded a number of times while apparently none of the victims and potential victims were armed to fight back.

A terrible, terrible situation all around, but you can't legislate protection against this type of stuff.

^In this 24/7 news cycle era, by next week this will hardly be remembered. Not to say it was not a horrific act against totally innocent people.

And certainly many sites are NOT blaming all gun owners for the act of a lone lunatic.. That is hyperbole at its worst.

Not go across the typical flow - but if the shooter had a history of drug abuse - a gift of a gun isn't the best plan - to be blunt.

Substance abuse is a better predictor of violence than most mental illness diagnoses or simple gun ownership.

I heard that Hilary Clinton was at this very church talking to the preacher just days before this happened. Can anyone confirm that? That seems odd if that is true.

Not sure about this.^

But one of the victims was a state senator and member of the Democratic Party.

I have seen this thread on here for a long while,... wanted to reply to the question after thinking on it real hard. Conflicted with the two sides, House of God vs self defense, I had hesitated to reply. The events of last night settled the debate. Yes, I will carry. I figure if the good Lord don't want me to respond, he will make me victim #1.
You can only serve Him while you're alive on this world.

I spoke to one of the officers that arrested him today, and interestingly enough we spoke about guns in church. He said he hopes more people start carrying in church because, "My God the man reloaded five times... surely someone could've done SOMETHING." (officer whose name I don't have permission to share, Shelby PD, Shelby NC)

Hey, "never let a good crisis go to waste", right?

He also used the opportunity to divide America (this is all about historic oppression of blacks, despite having pronounced a massacre in a kosher grocery store on a Friday afternoon "random") and tear down America (other countries don't have mass murders).

According to one news report, the incident happened in a "gun free zone".

Somewhat. Churches are not strictly speaking "gun free zones", but you can't carry into one in SC without express permission from the lead clergy/pastor.

Whether or not permission would have been given to a legitimate carrier is unknown (but unlikely), but the shooter certainly did not have such permission.

"The father has some legal issues there if knowingly transferring a firearm to someone under a felony indictment. IIRC"

Can he be charged as an accessory or something?

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/922

(d) It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or otherwise dispose of any firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that such person—
(1) is under indictment for, or has been convicted in any court of, a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year;
If the father knew that Roof was under indictment for a felony drug charge, and if that crime has a possible sentence in excess of one year, the father broke this federal firearms law. Depends greatly upon the date of each incident (birthday gift vs. felony indictment).

If Obama things we should be disarmed, I suggest he disarm the secret service first. Nothing shows one's desire for something like being the trendsetter.

If his father knew he was under indictment and still gave him the gun he should be held accountable. If he fanned the fires of hate and knew that his son was under treatment using psychiatric drugs he should also be made to suffer for his sons crimes.

I know the Sheepdog subject doesn't sit well with some here but those who are able, need to take it upon themselves, be it at church, the park, and other places where people gather and are vulnerable. Able bodied men need to stand up and start filling these voids in society.

No. It has happened before.
Let's hope that people Relearned or reviewed the tragedy in the broader context. Any mass tragedy involving a weapon will always be exploited by this type of regime, and the next regime could easily be of a very similar composition. Members of a such a future regime are now being "groomed" in lockstep, waiting for another mass tragedy to bring in critical political capital to enact their agenda(s).

Ordered two small cases of .380 and 9x18 Mak. about a week before that young sicko went berserk. Yesterday a second Polish P-83 (future import bans will always be possible).
Sheer coincidence in the timing. You Never wait if the cash is there, or can sell a gun to afford another.
All this new ammo went into an extra 'anti-panic reserve supply' can. Do some people with spare cash who use the more popular chamberings need even a stronger hint to plan ahead?
