The favorite rifle thread got me thinking.. what's your favorite rimfire and why?

Mine is a Marlin 39a Golden. It's my dad's rifle and its a sweet shooter. Of course it takes all day to load 18 long rifles in it but it shoots like a dream. Second is a bit of an odd-ball, a Belgian Browning Grade 1 take-down 22 rifle. It spits brass down your shirt sleeve, its too light, andi always forget to flip up the rear sight. Even so, I can still perforate a pop can at 50 feet with every trigger pull from that dandy.

CZ-452.
It is like a laser for squirrels.
I have a 3x9 on mine, and if I can see it, it is dead.
Last year, one of the little beasts tried to hide behind a dead, rotted out cherry tree so I couldn't shoot him.
I could see the edge of his head sticking out, so I aimed and fired.
I love fried squirrel...:D

I have a weakness for fine rimfires.....

Probably would be the Winchester Model 52.....currently have four of them....like the accuracy of the target models but love the elegance of the sporters.

Also have a couple of Voquartzen 10/22's that are fun plinkers, Tom does some beautiful work.

.22 handguns....haven't found anything I like more than the Smith & Wesson Model 41's...

Someday I'm going for a Dakota Arms bolt action.....

My Ruger 10/22. Why? Probably because it was the first .22 cal. rifle that I bought when I was a young lad.

So you could say that it is based largely on sentimental reasons, I guess. ;)

Right now I love my BRNO #4, but it's really a toss up. I'm with Rembrandt on the Winchester 52; I’ve a late model sporter and I love it, some day I’ll get around to an early C model.

If I’m feeling like a cowboy I’ll break out the Marlin 1896 with the octagon barrel.

If I’m feeling high-tech I’ll shoot the benchrest Sako P94.

If I want to pretend I’m in the Olympics it’s the Anschutz M64MPR full house rifle.

I guess my favorite is the one I’m shooting at the time.

My favorite is a Mossberg 151M, about a half century old. I like it because I can compete effectively with it against my pals that have tricked-out 10-22s that they have spent $500 to $1000 on.

Posted this once before i think ..... awful background color .. sorry! This is a Mauser Obendorfe, apparently made in 1920's .... it is quite heavy and at a glance looks more like a .270, until you see the small mag and bolt!!

Superb .22 ... quite the best (apart from actual target rifles) I have had and would be loathe to part with it. Got it off a buddy years ago for about $120 and seems it could be worth nearer a grand these days.

The Kimber .22 w/ Leupold VX-II that my wife got me for a wedding present.

Ruger 10/22T. The heavy barrel kills any and all recoil, allowing me to dump 10rds inside the 8 ring at 50 as fast as I can pull the trigger. or maybe I should say it would allow me, because I'd never break that silly :cuss: 1 shot per 2 seconds rule at my range to find out...... :p

I own a Remington Model 12 made in the 30's, a Remington Sportsmaster made in the 40's, and a tricked out 10/22.

I like em all, but my favorite rimfire is my Savage .17HMR.

I can shoot dimes at 50 yards and quarters at 100 yards all day with that thing. It makes me look so much better than I am:D

Dr.Rob, I've got 3 .22 rifles. Of the 3, my favorite is also my Marlin 39A Golden. I like the way it looks, feels and shoots. It's no wonder it is the oldest .22 rifle still in production.

You said, "Of course it takes all day to load 18 long rifles in it ...". You might want to try a little trick I use with it (and a Marlin 60 or any tube magazine). I load up soda straws with .22 cartridges and when it's time to load the tube, just remove the follower tube completely and insert a straw in the top of the tube mag. Obviously one end of the straw needs to be plugged; I've used tape and safety pins, both work well. The straws I have found locally hold about 10 LR rounds. I usually load them with half the capacity of the rifle, so a couple of straws and your loaded and ready to go. Most straws aren't wide enough, but I have found a good supply of wide ones at Arby's. I hope they standardize on the same type everywhere.

Cooper Arms Model 36. Very tiny groups. Beautiful wood. Crisp two pound trigger pull. What more could one ask.

Three, now, and all are German. A Walther Model 2, semi-auto or (if you push the bolt down 15 degrees) single-shot.

A Mauser single-shot training rifle; looks like a Model 98.

And the old Schutzen.

I hate to admit it, but I only have one rimfire (that I shoot) right now and it's not so pretty. Very effective though.

Marlin 882-SSV heavy barrel 22 Magnum with a 4-12 scope. I've used it a lot but I really wish I could get the trigger a bit lighter and smoother. Funny, now that we live out where I can shoot anything I want any time I want, I mostly find myself following squirrels with this rifle and taking the shot... with no ammo loaded. Little guys are just so darn cute.

I really have a hankerin' for a Kimber or a Cooper if I find one for the right price. Funny, most Cooper owners tend to keep their guns. ;)

This "J.C. Higgins" .22 was my late Dad's rifle.
It's a Marlin Model 81.
I shot it with him once when I was about 4 years old. Never saw it again until last summer when I ran across Dad's friend who gave it to me. Dad's been gone since 1975. I'm now 47, so you can imagine how pleased I was to get this. ( It and a Winchester 94... :what: )
Considering the history of the gun, it is my favorite .22.

In the picture, the stock has been very unprofessionally sanded down by me. It is currently being refininshed by someone who knows how to work with wood! I'll get pix of it when it's done.
I found a place for my Tasco High Country 4-16x40 scope and the B-Square bipod for now, though.

Dr. Rob......

we have similar tastes in .22 rimfires:D

I got the 39A late in life through the kindness of a friend selling it to me. It has become my all-time favorite rimfire, but I grew up using my Dad's 241 Remington, which was the domestic remake of the Browning. I owned two more of them along the way, but the Japanese Browning was far better than the Norinco clone:eek:

Mine's my sub MOA shooting Marlin 25MN. Can't believe how well the rifle shoots or that I was able to buy it with a scope for less than $150. It has to be one of the best deals I've ever gotten on a used firearm. A close second is my Marlin 60, another great buy.

My fav rimfire is my Ruger 10/22 project gun. Lots of fun collecting parts and installing. I'd like to get this as my next Ruger project:

Now THATS a tough act to follow!

My favorite is a Ruger 77/22, with a Leupold compact 3X9 AO. It's accurate with the cheaper stuff like WW bulk.

Browning BL-22

No one has yet mentioned my favorite .22 rf rifle, the Browning BL-22.

It's a short throw lever action tube magazine .22 that will shoot shorts, longs, or long rifles mix and match.

With the stock iron sights and the handy 18" barrel, this is a wonderful plinker in the woods.

Hey, Thirties!

I'm with you on the BL-22. I've read a rumor that they were supposedly introducing a 'cowboy' version with octagonal barrel. However, I just picked up an '03 Browning catalog and there's no such animal.

I'm still looking to see which of my next .22s may bump it into 2nd place.;)
