Man this crowd is getting hostile. We're supposed to be giving this gentleman advice as to the pros and cons of buying a 10mm or revolver, what our experiences are and maybe try and help him come to his own decision. Yet here we are arguing about whose numbers are right in terms of ballistics.

I don't see it that way. Someone is trying to make an informed decision based on facts and opinions of other experienced people. If one of those people posts something that is incorrect, I feel that the item in question should be corrected so that the OP can make a fully informed decision.

Let's say that someone posted (hypothetically) that a 10mm was ballistically similar in power to a .338 Lapua. If no one corrected this, the OP may buy a 10mm under the false impression that his handgun would have .338 Lapua capabilities.

Although no one is going to that extent, some people are overstating the abilities of the round, when the numbers (facts) clearly show the truth. I know Gryffydd has seen the .41 mag comparison about 50 times. I've seen him correct it quite a bit, backed up by numbers.

When I was shopping for a 10mm and doing research I appreciated him (and others) stating facts so that I knew exactly what I was getting.

Heh, I guess it's a pet peeve of mine. I just can't help it when I see it.

Personally I think saying it ties the .357 is a fantastic endorsement of the 10mm. There's no need to make stuff up to make it sound better. If one prefers autos, then it's the way to go.

The 10mm is the uber cartridge...didn't you know. Internal ballistics like a 22 lr, exterior ballistics like a laser beam and terminal ballistics like a 15KT nuclear warhead....Yeah..That is the 10mm.

As has been said...It depends on what you really want. I want one gun. I want an auto. I want hi-cap, cause I suck at fine motor skills under stress. I want it to poke a .400" hole even if it doesn't expand. I want a flat shooting cartridge in a handgun. I want concealability.

I picked the 10mm obviously, and my wife and I both have Witness's. Hers is the Elite Match, and mine is a standard full-size. Now I am socking away the components. I have about 3000 brass on hand, 8 lbs of various powders for 10mm, couple thousand large pistol primers, and 3 tons of lead I can cast into bullets. Once I round out this year with some more big powder, primer and brass purchases, I am comfortable saying I won't have any ammo shortages in 10mm, not matter what Wally World stocks.

Not sure how the moderators would like the idea, but right now almost 2/3 of the voters said to go with the 10mm in a semi auto pistol. Maybe you should ask the same question in the revolvers section. This sub forum is going to consist of people who predominantly prefer auto loaders. It atleast would give you a good idea of what most peoples opinions are.

This tread convinced me to get out some of my 10's to shoot. 750 rounds on Friday. Accurate, reliable and easy to shoot is all I can say for my Les Baer Heavyweight Monolith in 10mm. If all 10's were this nice I don't see why anyone would want something different.

I think we all have our beliefs about the 10mm.

MY final thoughts:
Seems to hit my targets with much more authority than any of my past
.357 Magnum loads.

A little behind in power in comparison to .41s that I've shot.

Way behind when comparing to any .44 Magnum load.

Any Magnum recoil bothers me, and the 10mm is at the
level that I can live with.

10-15 rounds of 10mm is very comforting to me.
So, I really can't say much more.

Best of luck with your decision:)

The Glock 20 is always with me in my backcountry ventures through the Rockies. I am one of the rare few who actually like the great big grip. It does great in rain, dirt, mud, snow, cold, etc. The polymer frame is the way to go for 10mm IMO... it's more durable and it helps tame recoil. I can't say enough about my G20... I absolutely love it. I just wish I could afford to shoot it more. I will definitely get the Lone Wolf .40 conversion barrel soon and get a couple cases of .40 chew on.

Pretty sure the Glock 20 is the only pistol platform designed from the ground up for the 10mm, instead of being a modified .45 platform. That might make a difference in its longevity, though I admit I don't know much about other 10mm pistols.

The Glock was almost my 10mm of choice but there is one small thing to consider when buying it. Glock's are notorious for jamming when "limp wristing" and that's the last thing you want. If your intention is to buy this weapon to fend off something as large or larger than a mountain lion, and you have never done so before, your body might go into a panic which means you NEED reliability to back up the rest of your faculties. In other words you need all the advantage you can get and you need something reliable, so Glock may not be the best choice here. Here's my source http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jh9JhCyFFxA Oh and for the record I AM NOT BASHING GLOCK, I think they make a terrific weapon and I personally like them. Just saying to predict all scenarios and prepare for them.

S&W 1XXX series and the bren Ten were also built around the cartridge.

I like the Glock 10mm and the recoil is easy, but im old school and carrry a Smith and wesson 44 in 3 inch, with 2 speed loaders.Got stuck on that system along time ago and just works well for me.I do like the 15+ .
