go to home defense weapon

Taurus 445 .44 Spl. w/CT Defender laser grip in the bedstand, Mossberg 500 12 ga. under the bed, 4 #4 Buck in the tube ready to rack. No kids in the house, so there just may be 3 other various handguns in other places for other situations. Changes with visitors. 11 yr-old GSP sleeps harder than I do, so I expect I'd wake her up getting out of the bed, but she's all over anyone showing up at the front door when we're up and about.

Is neat to see what everyone uses, I have a Judge under the bed, a mossberg 12 guage in the closet, my baby rock 380, a minature 1911, in other rooms, a 1911 45 acp, or a 1911 9mm, a Ruger Security Six 38/357 mag, and one
Uberti copy of the Colt SAA, in 45 colt of course.
If I need a carbine have a Rossi 38/357 mag with 16 inch barrel, and if need it a Henry all weather 45-70 for really big things

Interesting thread here, for sure. I have various different guns available at various different times. But mostly it would be a 4" Smith & Wesson 686. A 7 shot 357 magnum with a cylinder full of +P+ .38 Spl. handloads with a 158 gr. hard cast semi-wadcutter. Along with a full speed loader nearby. At typical self defense range the 38 Specials should suffice without the extra muzzle flash & noise of a 357 Magnum. Although either one would probably be deafening if I had to use them indoors.

Apparently, a couple posts that I made in this thread, and at least one other member's post, have been deleted. I guess that it's permitted to disparage some that live in a particular state, implying that they've allowed themselves to be oppressed, while those who would defend remaining in a particular state, are not allowed to rebut?

Is there really a way to promote armed self-defense without the discussion becoming political?
Agreed, I hope those individuals can single handedly stop the flood of libs moving into their States.

Rarely.

Kel-Tec SU-16C (26 inches folded ready to fire) 30 rounds of 5.56, backed up with my carry gun a Shield 9mm Gen1 with 10 Gold Dots, always at my bedside.

''Go to'' for home defense?

That's easy.

Dedicated pistol: Glock 17.3 loaded with Speer 124-grain +P JHPs (on/near me at all times)

Dedicated rifle: Arsenal SAS-M7 loaded with Hornady Black 7.62x39 123-grain SSTs x3 30-round magazines

taurus 856 38sp snubbie revolver loaded with wadcutters, with a speedloader loaded with ball ammo, next to bed upstairs or reclining chair downstairs. h&r 20ga, 20” single shotgun loaded with #5 gameshot under the bed.

i am in not a zip code with high-crime rates or with outward signs of affluence hinting of lucrative pickings for criminals to gorge upon. so, in my own calculus, simplicity and reliability trump capacity and tacticoolness for my own needs, but regardless, armed and practiced i am.

i can afford to live in a more affluent neighborhood, with more toys and trappings of luxury, but choose otherwise. would not the advice about only shopping at yard sales in affluent neighborhoods apply to criminals casing homes to rob too? and too, the affluent seem to believe that law enforcement exists solely, ready and able, to respond immediately to protect them at the notice from adt. i want no part of any of that scene or those neighbors.

I have 3 revolvers I rotate-S&W M-27 4", S&W M-28 6", Ruger Stainless Security Six 6"-loaded with good 38s. Kept by my bedside. I joke I should get a Hi-Point so if it is "taken as evidence" I won't be Singing The Blues. 2 story row apartment, 1 means of entrance-the front door and the layout of my apartment is such that an invasion by multiple assailants is easily channeled. Longest shot 10-12 feet, plus I know the lighting which gives me an advantage.

I like the Judge with special 410 cartridges, has 3 30 caliber balls in each cartridge or shells. 5 rounds, x 3 equals 15 rounds going down range. If I need more I have my RUGER SECURITY SIX, AND MY UBERTI EL PATRON
copy of a COLT SAA 45 colt, 5 rounds, and 6 in the RUGER. If I need more than that I am indeed in deep skimshi, Plus 6 rounds in my Mossberg pump 12 guage with 00 buck
I think solve the problem with the judge. At household ranges you should have no problem.

On the bedside table, a Glock 21 with a Crimson Trace green laser:

Nice mossberg. Those particular SA mossbergs 12ga and 20 ga weren't even on my radar. I wouldn't mind stumbling across one.

my present place in the evolution is a SW 65 loaded with 38 HP, SW 686+ loaded with 357 HP, and a charter arms undercover loaded with cast bullets that i found on my shelf. don't know when or where i got them.

revolvers because they don't require much thinking and are generally reliable. i don't shoot revolvers as well as i shoot my 1911s, but our house is very small.

Yeah, the only problem is that they won't cycle target loads, so practice ain't cheap. Maybe after a little more break-in ...

My CCW 9mm pistol loaded with Gold Dots is usually on me or within arms reach, in the bedroom there is a full sized 9mm loaded with GDs and a loaded AR with TAP rounds. Sometimes I have a PCC sitting around too.
