go to home defense weapon

We do not have a lot of home invasions in ALABAMA, cause most people keep guns close here. We are a state that allows self defense, and can carry without a permit. I do have a permit though for when traveling to see family in Oklahoma and Kansas and out permit is recognized in those states and the states I travel thru to get there , Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, Louisana

Have (2) 1911's on my nightstand. I carry 1911's. I have a tactical flashlight on the nightstand with them. Have no desire for a rail mounted flashlight. My home protection guns are what I practice with and shoot best. Been robbed twice where we lived before. They come at night. Trying to raise up out of a sleep, shoulder a long gun, and swinging a shotgun or rifle is pretty unthinkable to me in real life. Working through my house with a long gun would be the tail wagging the dog.

right now my favorite carry piece is a baby rock island 380. I know is not like my 1911 45 acp or 1911 9mm, but is easier to carry concealed, and with the new loads available is pretty good

but it is a kinda miniture 1911, so has all the same controls. I carried a 1911 for 20 years in the military, and owned a slew of them, so is a gun I am familiar with.
I have had COLTS, RANDALL, AMT HARDBALLER, THREE PHILLIPINE 1911S , would still like to get a commander sized, and officers model size, both in 45 acp

even owned a llama once, and an Argentine 1911 and a Ballister Molina , all in 45 acp, The Ballister Molina probably had more in common with a high power as far as the trigger goes, but was a good shooter.

It depends on what the scenario is. I have three designated for HD, My Beretta CX4 .40 that uses the same interchangeable mags as the Beretta 40-Two, they make a good combo. But also my trusty Mossberg 500 because per trigger pull, it delivers the most terminally devastating payload possible.

An affluent zip code.
Obviously, you do not reside in Washington state, where those residing in "affluent zip codes" are typically the Birkenstock clad, Volvo drivers (with the Hillary 2016 stickers still affixed) living in their Bainbridge Island, Mercer Island or Gig Harbor McMansions without a firearm to be had, counting on ADT to save their bacon in the event of a home invasion...

Newsflash: In most localities, the cleverer home invaders target the "affluent zip codes." Other than a couple grand in 20 dollar bills, a few grams of oxy, fentanyl or meth, not much to be stolen from even the nicest double-wide in the average trailer park.

Depends.

When the kids were little, we had a mine field of Legos and trip hazards.

The are all kinds of options for home defense and what is suitable is quite often very situational. A gun isn't necessarily going to be either reasonably available or the best option.

If I'm in the kitchen, there's a wide variety of cutlery and heavy pans.

If I'm in the garage, there's a ton of tools and equipment available.

Baseball bat, hammers, hatchet, saws, hoes, glass, machete, etc. I've got all kinds of weapons of opportunity at hand at any given moment or location.

Do I carry a pistol? Almost all the time. Do I have other firearms? Certainly, but they're not necessarily going to be at hand, ready to go like my carry...or the aforementioned weapons of opportunity.

But even so, they're not necessarily going to be my first choice.

Suppressed .300blk AR, 20ga "youth" 1100, CZ .38Super on a chicken plate carrier in my wife's bedside cabinet.

I'll just grab what she's left behind.

I get a mental image of you trying to choose a impromptu weapon from your workbench as some dude is kicking your door.
Pipewrench...nope
Screwdriver...nope
Hoe...no, not the hoe...

I don’t have just one, depends on what I am defending against, as to what I get and how I engage.

The only time my Sig P365 isn't on my hip is when I'm in the shower or bed. It stays on the nightstand at night. I keep a old Winchester 1200 leaning against my headboard, and a 7" AR15 leaning against a dresser. Other than a CA 44 Bulldog everything else is in 1 of 3 safes.

I have a pistol on me if I'm dressed and if I'm not its handy; a Glock 19/32 being my usual minimum.
I have a German Shepherd and a Bullmastiff, still carry at home; this is despite being in a "good area" where I perceive carrying at home unnecessary. ;)

My Custom all AMU parts that could be fitted Canadian Para Ordinance P14 with +2 mag and an Streamlight TRL6 light/lazer in a wall mounted tip out electronic safe next to the bed . I keep it loaded condition 1 with 15 Ranger 230+p ammo. and have two extra mags on the belt and holster hanging next to it. I used to have an HK23 in its place , but decided the proven in competition P14 was better and sold the HK23 recently. The back of the closet behind the clothes has a wall safe with S&G combo lock set for three digits with a 18" 870 12 ga. and a 16" 5.56 M4ish AR with ammo for both and a .22 Revolver loaded for pests .

It's hard to find rankings by state for violent home invasions, but it might interest you to know that Alabama is #9 on the list of home burglaries per capita.

ALL I CAN SAY IS WE ARE HOME MOST OF THE TIME WITH AN INVALID DAUGHTER, SO , KEEP A PISTOL HANDY AT ALL TIMES, PLUS THE DOGS RAISE CAIN ANYTIME SOMEONE APPROACHES THE DOOR.
