"Gun guy" Attitudes

Yes, some are like that, just like "Chevy/Ford" guys on car forums, "Evinrude/Mercury" guys on boat forums and "Chicken Mamas" on Backyard Chicken Forum ... They will make sure to "help" you get it right.

And let's not even mention "Bernina" owners on sewing forums where everything else is just "Junk". :neener: (My mom is a Bernina snob and had a cow when my wife bought a "Singer" ...

Things get heated even more on cooking knifes where "Henckels/Wüsthof" owners try to justify why their knives have to cost so much more ... :p (Although I am a Wüsthof owner, I use daily $22 Cuisinart knife set from Costco and recommend KitchenAid and Kuma knives to others ... Magic is in the $7 whetstone and I only sharpen my cooking knives once or twice a year but hone them regularly ;))

And shall we go on to "Apple/Android" owners or "Benchmade/Cold Steel" owners or even perhaps "Leatherman/Gerber" to "Snap On/Harbor Freight"? :) (Hey, HF hand tools come with no questions asked life-time warranty )

I probably need professional help because I am a 1911 "gun guy" who appreciates Glocks ... So am I "bipolar"? :what:
Haha, I actually think Glocks are overrated IMHO personally... I appreciate quality guns that go bang every time though. After all the 2nd Amendment is for all guns not just ones we personally like. Go ahead and get a Glock if you want one, I'm just glad you support gun ownership! :)

The Internet magnifies the worst in people. Things are said online that would never be said face to face. But "gun people," as such, are not particularly bad offenders. Things go off the rails only when politics get into the mix. Which is why The High Road is such a welcome oasis.
Amen. THR is a safe haven of online social media that is welcoming to all and while we poke fun at each other sometimes, we all support gun rights and safe gun ownership in the end. So 6.5 ManBun may be for you or you may despise it, either way, I'm just glad you like guns.

It's ok to disagree. Being loud and obnoxious isn't.
The example of "best" deer cartridge opens up too many variables for a best. If someone picks one cartridge and is obnoxious about it. I make him do the same thing I do anti gun people. A calm, informed argument makes heads explode if they don't listen to reason.
The best deer cartridge is one you can shoot well and is capable of ethically killing the deer. This is why many people like 243 Win as it's low recoil (easy to shoot) and fires a 100gr soft point bullet which will more than do the job, provided you shoot in the correct spot of course. I like 270 Win personally just overall as it is good for elk and deer or other similar size game but it is a bit harder to shoot from a recoil standpoint so it may turn some people off.

That is a very good description of adequate cartridge choice.
That's why my wife settled on a 260 Remington. A 270 was a little more than she liked. I'm not a 243 fan. I've been jaded by too many people making poor shots. I know they do work because a 223 works.

260 Rem is a 308 necked down to .264 right? That is an excellent choice! Sounds like an easy to shoot rifle with plenty of punch with 140gr SP loads.

Yes it is. She is running a 100 AMAX. It's 6 for 6 on deer.
I started out with it loaded to 2950 because she was recoil sensitive. Then I jumped it to 3225 after a couple seasons.
Shots have been varied from neck, high shoulder, and lung. The lung shot made 3 jumps with a trail that liked like a paint brush.
The neck shot was head on with no penetration of the diaphragm.

I bought my first 6.5 Creedmoor many years ago before the chambering developed a cult following. As its cult status has developed and gained momentum, so too have the legions of idiots that rally around it. Seems everywhere I go there are fawning sycophantic roundmouths spewing bile about it. It has really gotten so bad that I have divested myself of all three of the 6.5 Creedmoors I had previously enjoyed.

I know that sounds extreme, but in casual conversation with some decent, educated rifle loonies I'd mention my Creedmoors. The look of abject fear on their faces said it all. A good chat would come to an uncomfortable close. They'd switch topics. They'd pull out their cell phones and pretend they had an urgent text. A look on their face would say "Dear God, please don't let this guy talk to me."

I was standing at the gun counter in Cabelas asking to see the Tikka T3X in 6.5 Creedmoor. The counter clerk immediately begins telling me about what an awesome 1000 yard caliber it is. I asked him if there seemed to be a lot of demand in our area for 1000 yard deer rifles. He was prepared. He mentioned a few power lines and gas lines a couple parishes away, saying that with a good Vortex Strike Eagle you could dial the drop right in to connect. I asked how much a 140 grain bullet would drift in a 10 MPH crosswind over the course of the 1000 yard flight. He he stuttered and stammered a bit before muttering something unintelligible, then turned his attention to a skinny jeans wearing 20 something year old with a Grizzly Adams beard and a man bun who had walked up and stood close enough that his flannel shirt was touching me. Their conversation started with Mr. man bun remarking that he had heard the 6.5 Creedmoor was the flattest shooting round ever developed. That was months ago. They are probably still talking.

It's everywhere. The lunacy is pervasive and contagious. Last night on Facebook my bud posted a pic of a 3 shot group he'd fired with his new 257 Weatherby. He had sighted it in 2 inches high at 100. Never mentioned what bullet, what bullet weight, whether or not it was a handload or what velocity. Not that it really matters relative to the comments that followed. Here are the Creedmagic fan club member's comments for you to enjoy.

"2 inches high at 100 yards would make it way high at 300 yards. Should have bought a 6.5 creedmoor"

My bud responded by posting a trajectory table with a 200 yard zero. That elicited this this jewel:

"I have shot mine over 1000 yards. Not worried about ballistics."

The guy was serious too. Sadly his affliction is not at all uncommon. I can only pray that they don't start rallying around the 6.5 PRC.

I don't think this is entirely correct. In my short time here, I've encountered one or two Negative Nancies.

Could be worse though, that's for sure. The rest of the people here seem to be chill and enjoyable people.

Yeah, you will tend to always run into THAT guy who makes your life heck lol... I know the very active members such as Loonwulf and 308 Norma are always friendly and entertaining to join discussions with though!
