Hey Cops! Why M&P and not XD(m)'s?

Guys, what Shawn Dodson said IS a major factor. Whether the grip safety locking the slide is truly an impediment to one-handed operation or not, if enough folks perceive it to be an issue, then it IS a big deal when selecting service pistols.

Another factor is armorer support. Glock armorers are everywhere. I don't know about S&W armorers, but S&W itself is known for quick attention to LE pistols sent in for service. I work a second job at an FFL, and seem to remember reading in a firearms industry publication several years ago that one thing hurting XD LE sales was indeed the armorer factor, coupled with the XD not being as easy to detail-strip for servicing. Keep in mind that most US LEOs must buy their own pistols, and quite a few of those must be their own armorers, or send the pistols to the factory or service center.

I don't have a dog in this fight, as I don't care for the S&W M&P, Glock, nor the XD. I find the SIG P229 tolerable, and even likable. I work for a quite large PD that requires us to buy or otherwise furnish our own .40 duty pistols, with the P226, P229, G22, G23, M&P40, and a couple of XD pistols being on the approved list.

Until someone produces evidence that a police department or LE agency anywhere in the country has specifically stated that they did not, can not or will not select or approve the use of an XD or XDM based on the presence of the grip safety, I'll assume that this is nothing but conjecture.

I don't know about S&W but I agree with Rexster one thing Glock has going for it is that Glock armorers are everywhere. As are Glock accessories. There are more XD accessories available now than there were a few years ago but as far as I know if something breaks they want you to send the gun in for service. I don't know about S&W but this would have to be a big plus for Glock.

I own an XD & I trust it. The grip safety issue does not really concern me although I can see how the possibility might concern someone else. At the same time though I am not a cop nor do I play one on TV. We all spend our money & take our chances.
