How much ammo for the next four years

I didn't read all the posts but....

I am glad to see that so many take the same view as I. Buy all you can, it will never be cheaper. I won't tell you how many rounds and or components I have, suffice it to say that my wife, daughter and I are covered for the next four years and probably beyond.
Ignition override fire made a good point about fire, or other disasters, for that matter. I have a shop, a shed, a garage and of course a house. I will be distributing among those places in the near future.

Agreed. Buy as much as you can, you can't really have too much unless its effective your living space lol

i shoot 1200 rounds of 22lr every month.
:what:

I grew up shooting .22 in the 60's. I put small game meat on my family's table regularly with it. I didn't plink, because we viewed it as wasteful. We were dirt poor, and needed the meat more than holes in bottles and cans.

With a scope, I didn't feel the need to punch hundreds of holes in a piece of paper from 25 yds.

I shot maybe 300 rnds per year. That's 25 rnds per month.

I'm not saying you shouldn't.

I'm saying you don't need to if it comes down to it.

My contingency plan is one years worth of loaded ammo and 4 years worth of primers, powder and lead. If times get tough, I could easily stretch that out to 10 years and still be shooting more than your average weekend warrior at the range.

some people require 1200 rounds/month to show improvement.
not everyone is a fast learner but who wants accuracy at 25 n 50 yards.

I'll be watching the political climate very closely next year, if it looks like its going to go South.....I will be stocking the crap out of my reloading cabinet.

That way, when the hoarders clean out the shelves, I can just sit back and watch....because I'll be in good shape.

I've also been buying ammo on sale as I go, so I've already got a decent stockpile sitting here.

We shoot 2-3K rounds per month, less when its hot, more when its cool and the wife comes along. Ammo and reloading supplies would need to be about 120K rounds for 4 years. We're already there.

Its not complicated math. If you shoot more than we do you'd need more, if you shoot less you'd need less.

Buy when you find a "deal" and don't over think it. Powder and .22lr are the largest problems at the moment.

I just scored 8 lbs of Accurate 2460 for my 223 loading and 4 lbs of longshot for my 40 S&W loading, from Graf's for a good price.

With that on top of what I already have here....I'll be good for several years.

If they ever ban Russian ammo, as with guns --

Even though it's not yet a real possibility, imagine if our next President really butts heads with Russian Pres. Putin...And there is a mass tragedy here involving multiple rounds of Russian/Ukrainian 7.62x39, or .223 etc.

Domestic ammo in these chamberings would skyrocket as soon as news leaks out of Congress or the WH/ATF about a huge tax or import ban. It could even happen with a GOP President. Bush Sr. was not very pro-gun.

How much ammo for the next four years?

I see this as varying member to member. Those with a wife and young children and of moderate means obviously can't afford to stash what some others can stash. You buy and stash what you can. That's about it.

Collectively the answer to your question seems to be buy what you can afford when you can get it. I like to shoot, each week i need 3-400 rds of .223, 200 rds 300 Blackout, 200 .22 LR, and various hand gun ammo in .32, 380, 9mm and usually two or three mags of .45. In my case i need to buy/reload at least that much ammo to keep up and more to keep reserves from being depleated.

So in summation, i purchase weapons on desire/need and for each caliber a decent reserve amount is put on the shelf. I have always done this not just since the panic, i am now shooting as much .22 LR as i desire and using ammo bought forty years ago. My reloading components will always produce thousands of rounds if those sources dry up and i can continue to shoot and not be totally consumed by current political upheaval for the remainder of my useful days.

Here is something no one has touched on yet. During the last panic buying the availability of some calibers were far less than others. I noticed in my area (Eau Claire Wisconsin) that 30 06 and 30 30 were available just about every time I went looking for it, but 308, 243, 357, 44 mag, 9mm and 45ACP were hard to get. It took a year or more for this ammo to come back and you all know that .22 is still hit or miss.

308 and 243 was non existent for many months.

I was not caught short last time and I will not be caught short this time.
