Independence Month Rimfire Match

My club has some new rules and one is that you can't fire .22 rimfire on the 100 yard range. .17 HMR is okay though so I'll shoot that.

Asked the rifle chairman if the club would waive the rule for me as I'd like to shoot .22 at 100. Doesn't look promising. Think I'll have to maybe find another range to shoot .22.

Did shoot at 50 from the bench and will post later. Will try sporter prone and sitting next time I get out.

Upshot of my conversation with the rifle chairman is that he's going to try to start up a rimfire match series at the club as the highpower events are not attracting the numbers they used to. He think it's because of ammo prices. I think he's right about that.

Dang, we can't win for loosing. Why on earth would they have such a rule?

:)

Safety is the reason given for pretty much everything but there's no correlation I can see. I think the intent is to keep newbs appropriately close enough to targets given the caliber. I think.

Interestingly I've done it in the past with the 82G and iron sights. It was easy enough to get dialed-in and no problem hitting the target. I'm going to try to make the next rifle committee meeting and see just what they're thinking.

I made a pdf version of the 50 yard target that's already sized for one 8-1/2 x 11 piece of paper if anyone wants it. Just shoot me an e-mail and I will send it to you.

Oh, and I think I finally have my front sight locked down so it won't move and I'm in for the July shoot. Looks like fun!

Kimber 82G off the bench, Wolf ME.

I'll be trying the sporter in a while. Got exuberant taking some rust off the blade of our yard clippers and sliced the tip of my trigger finger pretty good.

Yikes Shootr! Slow and easy wind the race there! Hope your finger heals quickly!

OK. I have a newb question. If you have your .22lr sighted in at 50 yds, your bullets are avging 1240fps, and are 40gr round nose bullets, how much drop is it to 100yds?

I have a ballistic calculator, but it doesn't do rimfire ctgs. I went out yesterday and couldn't hit paper at 100 with the rifle sighted in at 50 before starting.

Any help would be appreciated.

Mikey!

Thanks mickey. I don't know the answer to your question, but I'll see if I took notes from shooting at 100. I only did it once and was just playing around, so I might not have kept the data. I'll check and post back later today.

Perhaps I need to try that...I might shoot better. ;)

My ballistic calc. says you are looking at about 5.61in. of drop with a 50yd. zero assuming that the BC of the little 40gr. pills are about 0.134 and a standard scope height of about 1.5in. I would adjust or aim 5in. high and see what that gets you...then make adjustments as needed.

I think subsonic loads might fare better on the 100yd. range as all but the highest velocity .22lr cartridges will enter the trans-sonic barrier and may become unstable just prior to that yardage. Furthermore, most of these "hyper-vel." cartridges do not provide acceptable accuracy IME. The only problem with SS rounds is wind...you need a calm day so they don't traverse the target with a small gust.

Looks like a perfect score to me. Is it?
Yep...he made it easy to score...hard to beat. Outstanding showing, shootr!

:)

Thx Mav.

Rest is a cheapie hand-me-down - an old Hoppes I believe. Zip-tied a leather pad to it. Sometimes just use sandbags they have laying around.

Mickey - no joy on data my end but looks like Mav nailed it.

Ya I see I am going to have to upgrade if I am going to be able to compete.
I just been laying mine on top of my range bag

When I shot 100yds the other day I didnt change sights from my 50 yd zero and I was about 5-6 inches low

I was going to take my Kimber tomorrow to shoot 100yds but I have the rear sights in pieces on my desk.
Owners manual warns not to dissasemble them, now I know why

Someone score me, please. This was with a headwind from the 1:30 position, CZ 452 Trainer, Automatch ammo, factory sights. JakeJulyRim1.gif

is that only 10-shots? that bottom right cluster looks like more than 4? if so, 7, possibly 8 inside the 10-pts zone, with remaining in the 9-pt zone. so i'm seeing either a 98 or 97... someone else check ;)

i need to get out to the range ... been raining here and i'm itching to take my stack of printed targets to give it a go!

I made sure that I only fired 10 rounds. I only pulled 10 out of the box at a time. LOL I printed and shot three targets, and the one I posted was the first and best. Go figure.

good job ;) i now wish i would have gotten out a few days ago... before all the good targets came rollin' in -- DOH!

juk, that looks like a 97 to me, but it could be a 98. It is on the edge, and with the little chunk missing hard to tell for sure, I will go by your judgement as to what to call it.

:)

Thanks guys for the drop info. I was aiming at the top of the target, so I should have at least hit the paper, but "No Joy!" Maybe had something to do with the 20-30Mph gusts with steady 15-20Mph swirling steady wind! LOL!

That's my story and I am sticking to it! ;)

I'll have to try again soon!

Mikey!
