Aaarrrggg!! I cheated!! A thousand apologies. The gist of the competition was explained to me by Beetle Bailey, so I never bothered to actually read the entire thread for all the rules. Mea culpa.

BamBam,
Thanks for "fessing up" regarding how you shot your targets and the misunderstanding of the rules. However, I don't think what you did was that far outside the rules as described.

1) You did use match targets for practice which is not strictly within the rules of the match.
2) However, practice shots on 'non-match' targets is allowed in this months match. For some past matches "cold and on demand" has been specified in the course of fire description but I did not specify that in this match.
3) You must shoot 10 rounds for a target to count. Your first target with the p220 is incomplete and probably should not be counted.
4) You did not 'cherry pick' the best target to report your original scores so you were within the letter of the rules in terms of firing sequence.

I see several options:
A) D Q you completely. (Seems extremely harsh to me).
B) Accept you 'updated' scores
C) Accept you original scores

Therefore, by the power vested in me as this months Guest Match Coordinator, I believe the right thing is a combination of B and C. I proposed we accept your updated scores for the rimfire targets since you completed both first targets with 10 rounds. But, we will toss your first P220 target and call it 'practice'. Net result is you take a hit on the .22 score but keep the P220 score.

Hopefully this will not cause any heartburn with the other competitors (If it does, let me know). I appreciate your honesty in following up with the error. It is still some damn fine shooting.

Ah whatever. Most of this is a personal challenge anyway. The nice thing about being in charge is Photo Guy's decision is final. That doesn't mean I can't complain or agree, it just means he makes the decisions and I will respect them.

This weekend I will get out and shoot.

well I went and gave it a shot with my G23 and my Kimber Custom II .. and the results were ugly .. my hands are too damn shaky to shoot that far and keep 10 shots inside a 3 inch ring (5 if you count the white)

oh well .. hopefully the next match will treat me a little better ..

FWIW,,,

for those of you beating yourselves up,,,

only about (slightly educated guess) about 20% of all shooters out there could keep them all in the black

and maybe 10% could keep them all in the 9 ring (probably slightly lower)

and when i say in i mean not touching it in,,,

i'll give myself + / - %5 on those

the trick is to not care about how you score but to get back out there the next time and try to improve your score,

or work on something that may improve your score

another advantage to finding a leauge and shooting it is meeting some exceptional shooters and talking to them

most of them will be glad to help you

they probably won't give you ALL of their secrets though,,,

especially if youre right on their heels

shooting is all about thinking positive, so beating yourself up is bad,,,

again,,,think of what you did right for all those good shots you made

and forget / don't even "see" the bad ones

i'll shut up now i guess,,,

:D

Last call

Reminder: I extended the deadline for the January match until 2/9/2204.
So, this is your last weekend to get out there and give it a try. You can do the February match at the same time!

Sorry Photo Guy, but this was the most unfun match to shoot in. Give El Rojo two big fat zeros.

El Rojo
zero
zero
Standard Rimfire
Ruger Mark I or II
.22 LR

El Rojo
zero
zero
Standard Centerfire
Glock 27
.40 S&W

The only good thing about this month was it got me warmed up to get a perfect score with my Glock 27 for the February Match. If we were taking a poll, I would vote no on this one in the future. But maybe some of you liked it. Maybe if the target was a little bigger so you had a chance to get at least a 1. All of my missed shots were right outside of the 5, I would have happily taken a 4, but anything outside of that dumb set of circles was a big fat zero.

If I were to do this again I would probably do things a bit differently. Maybe a larger target, maybe a different distance.

I wanted to add some 'virtual pressure' and make everyone work hard for each and every shot in this match. I think it worked...perhaps too well.

I was thinking about making the area outside the rings score as a 4. It would help people who have one target with >50 and the second target 'outside the rings' because of the averaging. For those who were 'outside the rings' on both targets it would just be a psychological improvement since the lowest score would simply be 40 instead of zero. No difference in the relative scoring in reality.

I ended up gettin to the range yesterday and shot a pair of 0's.......better luck next time I guess. I was a little more focused on shooting my ar-15 with the trijicon ACOG for the first time.....I probably should have put more effort into the pistol shooting.

I couldn't disagree with El Rojo any more about the match. I thought it worked exactly as you planned. It was fun and challenging to shoot. Thumbs up on this one. Good job.
