Welcome to the Rimfire Match for the month of July! This match is open to any and every 22 caliber (as well as 17 and 20 caliber) rimfire rifle including the perennial favorite .22LR, as well as the .22Short, .22Long, .22 Mag., .17HM2, .17HMR, and 5mm Rem RF Mag (as well as any oddball rimfires that you might have). This match is meant to be challenging and educational, but most of all FUN. Hopefully it will get you out to the range and shooting your rifle. If you have one handy, make sure an bring a friend too.

There are Two Optics Divisions:
->Iron sights and non-magnified optics and red dots. Shot at 25yds.
->Scopes and other magnified sighting devices. Shot at 50yds.

There are Two Rifle Classes:
->Unlimited/Target Rifles (highly modified rifles, rests, target sights, high magnification optics- over 10x [in the appropriate division] may be used)
->Sporting Rifles (Includes All Non-Target Class Autoloaders, Bolt Actions, Single Shots, Pumps, & Lever Rifles)

Both classes can be shot from any position. Rests/Sandbags/bipods are permitted in the Target Class only. Shooting stick(s) are now permitted for both classes (either crossed or walking stick style). Use of a sling is encouraged.

25 Yd. (Irons) Target: See attachment below. Scale to 100% on standard 8.5x11in. paper (for best results print from Windows Photo Viewer with "fit picture to frame" deselected). The objective is simple...just break the line to earn the indicated point value (1-32; indicated beneath each target). Shoot at as many or few as you like, but pick your shots carefully because if you miss one and you are disqualified. You can earn a maximum of a whopping 528pts!

50 Yd. (Optics) Target: Same as above.

When you are satisfied you've done your best post/attach (or shoot me a PM) a photo or scan of your target with as much of the following information as possible: Forum name (or name you want posted in the results), Rifle, make, model, vintage (if known), Sights/Optics (with magnification if applicable), Ammo, Position, Distance, Conditions (in/outdoors, wind, temperature...). Multiple submissions are allowed (in same or different division/class with same or different rifles).

Self-scoring is encouraged and appreciated. All submissions due before July 32nd. ;)

That's a good point, what's the strategy on this target? Do I start on the biggest one or the smallest? Maybe one in between I feel comfortable hitting, then go larger from there? How badly can I mess myself up on this? :D

Great target choice!
I noticed the centerfire match is up and running too. Excellent!
Thanks. There was a recommendation for a past target so I made this one with red/white dots to facilitate viewing with irons (at least as best as is practicable), and make it a bit different from what's already been done.

The centerfire match is somewhat of a trial, as I know others have tried to create one with little success, but I wanted to give it a try. So far, things are looking pretty good. If all goes well, they'll be a new one next month too.

Ooohhh!!! Pressure. Pressure. Pressure. If I start at the bottom and get all of them back to one of the big targets and miss I might whack my rifle on the ground a few times.
 [big 'ole sheet eat'n grin]

The idea is to go from big to small, but that's not a prerequisite, and to be perfectly honest is probably a loosing strategy. Just make sure you know which dot you have already shot...it would be a real bummer to be acing the target and accidentally poke an extra hole in the wrong dot.

I havent been in the last few months matches but am ready to jump back in.
I came to check out what was going on and see Julys Target and I like it!!
I'm in

Am I the only one who went to the range today without reading the rules first? :cuss:

At least I got some practice. I really liked this one although I'm thinking it could be a bit pricey for the centerfire group.

After putting one of these up at 25m at the range I realized I couldn't even make out the circles. So I put the front sight post on the upper left of the paper, hoped for the best, and squeezed one off. Got lucky and scored a 1.

Rifle was a CMMG dedicated 22LR upper with RRA lower, iron sights, sling, and Federal bulk packs from Walmart shot from the prone unsupported.

Thanks for getting us started, happygeek. Darn, I thought I made the top couple of rows large enough for irons. :uhoh:

My eyesight is pretty bad, hoping to get PRK before too much longer to change that. If the circles were solid black instead of half red, half white I'd be able to see them.

Feel free to color in the white and/or red areas to make it easier to see.

:)

Here is an alternate version that might help a bit. Everything is the exactly the same as the original target, but I filled in the white areas with a charcoal color for better contrast. Feel free to use this one (or make your own modifications, so long as the scale/outer ring is the same) instead.

:)

Mav ,were you ears burning today?:) Man that target is tough, my problem is I dont know when to stop
Shooting with a scope down to the second to last target in the third row and MISS:fire:
I didnt even try irons, my eyes arent good enough for that.
Oh well I'll try again another day

Ouch, that's a bummer. Despite the DQ, I'd like to see it (that is, if you didn't unleash the 12Ga. on it in retaliation)...as that remains some fine marksmanship!

:)

No I didnt keep the target. After the DQ ,I went ahead and shot the fourth row with only two hits
Its a real challenge

Oh well thought you might have kept it to hang on the 'fridge to taunt you every time you get a glass of tea.

Haven't had a chance to get to the range yet for the July match. I'm going to shoot it with the .17 (Savage pre-accutrigger Mark II) and I'm going to do this one indoors. It's been either too hot (over 100 with heat indices over 110) or raining on the day's I've been free.

Was going to shoot it outdoors, but my cardiologist sez "Stay Out Of The Heat!!!" At 69, I think I might just take his advice. This being Kansas, the only days so far that were cool enough were so windy (40+ MPH) that even hitting target 1 with a 20 power scope would have been ridiculous.

Pal with the outdoor range has just acquired a new horse, so I gotta make sure he doesn't have the animal out in the pasture before I can use it as this one is a mischievous one and likes to grab stuff and run. Don't want him eating my ammo or target, let alone getting dinged by running through the target area.

Oh you will heat up after shooting this target even inside
Hehehe :p

I'm hoping this week will turn out to be a mite bit cooler...just have to avoid becoming a lightning rod.

:)

Made it to the range. My rifle is a wally world cheapy thats been polished, 20" barrel and bolt from Kidd, Jard 1lb trigger, boyd's bedded stock and BSA 30mm 6-24 side adjust scope. Ammo is SK rifle match in lower photo and federal 922b in the upper. First time try'n the 922b ammo. Shot 4 other targets and these were the closest. Had to chase it around on the first row with the fed ammo. Distance turned out to be only 46 yards thanks to a guy with a range finder. Thought it was 50. With couple bad shots anyhow it does not qualify. Try again next week. But it can be done, maybe, probably not by me.

Looks like that rifle shoots very, very well. I'm impressed
The bedded stock and light trigger can really make a differnce. I cant get my trigger less than 2 1/2 lbs right now.
May send rifle off neXt year to get bedded and trigger work
Good shooting
