now let's see what you got. i want someone to persuade me differently or maybe broaden my horizon.....so i showed you mine now you show me yours

to 'MikePGS' :
I believe that dressing up your dogs in silly costumes is (or should be) against the law in 37 states and the Provinces of British Columbia & the Yukon.

.....and to keep with the original post - SA-XD 45 APC with a SureFire attached.

Those are tactical costumes. Whats more frightening than a Bee and a Devil? :D
That being said i hope to pick up a Mossberg 500 in the near future probably in 20 gauge, since i've never shot a 12 before and i know that the recoil with a 20 is both nil, and effective.

You're right, a shotgun and a pistol is plenty for HD. The only thing I would recommend differently is a buttstock for the shotgun. I've never used a pistol grip only shotgun but I imagine it must be a lot more difficult to maintain accuracy and recoil control/follow up shots. The advantage of a pistol grip only is increased portability and concealability and that doesn't really help for HD. It seems like it would be more of a disadvantage in your case. Have you practiced much with it at the range? (i.e. set up 5 clay pigeons about 30 feet out in a row with a few feet between them and see how fast you can dust them. I bet it will go faster with a butt-stocked shotgun.)

Well its easy there are only 2 guns that belong to me, 1. A .40S&W M&P 4in and a Ruger Targetmaster .22lr so the HD gun is the .40s&w all day long and twice on sundays. I have a stinger from work that hangs on my duty belt by my bed.

My XD45 is on me all the time when I'm not on campus, and I will occasionally keep a 20 ga. pump gun full of buckshot by the bedroom door.

This is what we rely on if you can get down our road and past the dogs un-noticed.

The P-13 is mine, the SP-101 is the wifey's...and the Carry 9 is my daughter's.

bottomuvthamap,

Nice pair. I especially like your xd.40. I'm purchasing one here soon in the sub-compact model to be my conceal carry weapon. Comes with 2 mags - one of which is the service extension which I'll use for HD.

My HD is covered with my Winchester 1300 (Defender:fire:) 12 ga. pump with 18 1/2" barrel & #4 buckshot. Sorry - no pics.

DMK, You might end up getting killed while standing there trying to decide which one to use!

The first line of defense involves a couple of weapons chambered in 12ga. After that it becomes .45ACP time. Once again there is more than one option available there.
