10mm choices
If you want pictures, go to
www.eaa.com for the Witness lineup. Basically, unless you have big bucks for a Delta Elite or 1911 custom, your choices are the Glock line or the Witness offerings. I handled the Glock 20, hated the top-heavy balance of the gun and the general feel of an appliance. The full-size steel Witness, which I bought, has the balance and ergonomics that I want for a pistol. The Witness line also offers conversion kits of a new slide, barrel and magazine, for .22 LR, 9x19, 38 Super, 40 S&W and 45 ACP, all of which use the same frame.
The Witness also comes in a polymer-frame line, which is better for smaller hands, and shaves a few ounces off the weight. Both the Glocks and the Witnesses come in shorter barrels and shorter grip models for CCW. If you plan to use the full potential of the 10mm Auto cartridge with full loads from sources like Underwood or your own handloads, consider that the standard barrel length is 4.7 to 5.0 inches. Shorter barrels are going to give you more muzzle blast, and less performance. The energy and recoil of a full house 10mm load is like a heavy-bullet maximum .357 Magnum load. You are not going to enjoy that in a 26 ounce gun.
If you just plan on using Federal 180gr. 'range' ammo, and you want a compact CCW gun, get yourself a 40 S&W and save yourself a lot of expense (for ammunition) and frustration. If you want the maximum power you can get in a factory-cartridge moderate priced autoloader, get a full-size Witness or Glock, whichever gun feels right in your hand.
