Midway price increase

I'm a happy customer of MidwayUSA. They were a big relief on the pocketbook when I discovered them. I had been buying gunsmithing tools and supplies from Brownell's at much higher costs than Midway. I think Brownell's only lowered their prices and EXTREME shipping fees because of competion from Midway.

I always hear bad things about midway, but I never experience it. I paid 10 dollars shipping to ship a press, dies, bullets, funnel, a reloading tray, plastic ammo boxes, etc.

Then i always hear great things about others such as grafs because of their "free" shipping. I like to put together an entire order and then compare total prices. Midway was cheaper for me both times I have placed an order.

Of late my problem with trying to order from Midway is I want to order three or four things and they are out of stock on one or more. If you B/O them, you get charged for shipping again.

I understand everyone has trouble with stock right now, but it is getting so you can't hardly order anything anywhere.

As for bullets, I have found a local caster who does lead bullets for less then any place I have found online and no shipping fees becaseu I can pick them up.

The other aggravation is that it does not appear that they have a good handle on when they will get more product. I have had some stuff on B/O for almost a month and every week it just slides out another week.

I just did a order with Midway. Same as they were many years ago.
Very efficient & prices were pretty good too. I cannot complain.
My first orders with them were before internet days & they were very reliable even back then. But now with the internet it is pretty amazing how they follow up.
Graf has been very good to deal with too. But the free shipping does not extend to non 48 states so the price is a bit high for me.
What I do not understand is if they give free shipping should we get at least the price of shipping to the east or west coast off the shipping?

I just ordered the "Compact Range Bag" from Midway. $10.57 to ship, didn't seem bad considering Kickin A Packs charged me $13.18 to ship a much smaller bag to me. Midway's website said the bag was on sale for $23.99. I tried to order on the web and the price kept showing up as $39.99. I called on Friday and the operator said the sale ended on 12/31. I told her it was still on the website at $23.99 and she honored that price (but quickly took down that part of the web page). I didn't know about Graf's at the time, their "Shooters Ridge" bags look pretty similar to the Midway bags.

I never understood why I would want to pay more for Ranier bullets when they can only be loaded the same as lead bullets but cost more?
Sometimes you cant shoot lead, as in the case of a glock.
I also am seeing more and more indoor ranges banning lead bullets.

My process is the same as SSN Vet's, and I wind up going with Midway often. Over the past year most of my orders have been from Midway, Graf, Widener's and Oregon Trail. I keep a 'want list' and regularly check those and a few other sites. Buying on sale and/or in bulk often results in substantial savings.

I shop...

I compare.....

and I order....

More times than not, Midway gets my order

That's been my experience too.

The only time I ordered from Graf's, I called them. They added an exrta few bucks charge for taking the order over the phone, then the order was wrong when it arrived.

and your lucky to find 1 or 2 things out of 10 in stock.

I'm fed up with everything being out of stock.

I tried to place an order the other day, 9 of 14 items were out of stock. Sorry Midway--this has happened 6 times in the past year and a half--I'll look elsewhere too.

"†MidwayUSA attempts to keep our costs as low as possible so we can give our Customers the best pricing in the industry. Since we will accept any size order, there is a Special Handling Charge of $3.00 for all retail product orders under $25.00 and $4.00 for all dealer product orders under $40.00 to offset the additional costs associated with handling orders under these amounts."

They are racking up a fortune in fees by shipping low cost backordered items with this strategy.

I stopped buying reloading supplies at midway. the costs just became too much. shipping+hazmat+cost of material .
wideners and grafs offered much better deals in 2008.
I have been using midway only 2 years and I just added up every invoice over that time

I should not have done that.:cuss:

i still enjoy the mass amount of emails from them screaming 95% OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yellow paperclips. i bet mcguyver sure loves their random 95 percent off junk sales.

Can't complain much. I shop things out as well and have found once everything is added up Midway generally gets the nod. I order stuff from a LOT of places and I do shop the best prices. However when ordering several items and only one of them is lower in price it's hard to say you realize a substantial saving.

I orderd some Oregon Trial bullets which were not in stock anywhere else but Midway. The order had several boxes of 500 in it. When it arrived, the side of the shipping box was torn open, as well as a couple of the boxes of bullets had bursted. I called them up with the news that one of them wasn't the full 500ct, and within three days I had a full box of bullets sitting on the door step no charge.

I do admit that on some things they have higher prices including shipping. As for out of stock items I generally just put them into the Wish List and check on them once a week or so. If it is out of stock they generally put an expected date below the item or order number that gives you an idea of when it may be in stock.

Everytime I place a online order I look at midway, grafs and midsouth. The total is always within a few bucks on all 3 places.

Yes midway will get you with shipping if you place a small order. I try to consolidate my orders and save quite a bit that way. Right before christmas I placed a HUGE order and paid the same amount as if I had bought a few items, and got it in a few days. Can't complain.

Midway gets it there the quickest and with the least amount of fuss for me. Grafs ALWAYS requires a signature on delivery. Thats a problem for me as I work nights and am usually passed out and miss the fedex truck. Midway will allow them to leave my package on the porch which in my situation I prefer.

All places are out of stock on a lot of stuff right now. Not just Midway. What does concern me is that Midway is closing out alot of items that don't sell well. Maybe they are looking at the future and preparing for the hard economic times that may be coming. It does cost money to keep items in stock that are not selling.

Saw in the latest flyer Rem bulk bag 9mm 115 FMJ's $14.99/100, 124 FMJ $15.79/100... INSANE! These prices are more than boxed Hornady XTP's. Stop the madness Remington. Looks like the CED ProChrono digital chronograph is up to $106.99... Happy new year!

Not sure I follow?
If I buy 400 of those bullets it is about $60 bucks
1 pound of powder say 18 bucks will load 400 rounds roughly using AA#2 @ 4 grains
15 bucks for primers & I have 400 rounds for less than $100 bucks,
Yes I did not include bras since we are reloading

But to buy 400 rounds of XTP isn't that about $16.50 a box of 25?
So roughly 264 for 400 rounds.

Can't say they're good or bad because I just never ordered that much from them. I will say I did luck out just before Christmas. They had a Forstner's drill press mounting plate that I had been looking for, one one else had one. I also ordered two extra bits as well. I didn't pay that much attention to the shipping, I needed on pretty pretty bad. (over a thousand .308's needed trimming). I got the order in two days. :)

My point was not the cost of XTP bullets, it was the cost of bulk REM FMJ bullets compared to Premium XTP's... These same Rem FMJ's are used in cheapie UMC ammo.

I know there are a lot of factors that come into play lately, but it was not that long ago these same bullets were about $5.99-$6.99/100, and in the same flyer, Winchester 115 FMJ's are $4 less/100. XTP's have not gone up anywhere near the rate of these Rems, and their cost is ridiculous and baffling?

Shop, compare, order...

"Shop, compare, order..." yes, I couldn't agree more but Widener's usually ends up winning that one.

NOTHING is free. Anyone offering "free shipping" is padding their prices. If the net result is acceptable, so be it - I welcome the convenience of calculating the final price paid. As far as I've seen these past several months, Midway is over-the-top on shipping charges.

I have to say, Widener's is getting a bit expensive on shipping as well but I just placed another order with them last week.

AAAAAAAuuughhhh!!!!

Oh, MAN,:what: you pegged my "BS Meter!" :barf:

You nailed several of my pet peeves in the entirety of shootingdom.

Midway's being out of stock and nailing you for shipping when they get the one widget that you ordered with a pallet of something else, so you pay twice :fire:

Ranier being so far out of line (as, compared to Berry's or honest-to-God jacketed ammo from PRVI, MagTech, or IMI) that I refuse to pay the highway robbery prices for their products :cuss:

And.... What? PRICE increases when we know that prices for lead, copper, and other constituents of bullet manufacture have tanked along with the economy?:banghead:

You gotta be kidding me.

I am NOT going to bail out Midway or Ranier. :scrutiny: I don't have anything left after bailing out the banks, insurance companies, and auto manufacturers.

You guys can find me hanging out with the Cast Boolits guys. :uhoh: I'm gonna cast my own.

Sounds good, now if I could only cast FMJ for my glock. Here in a few weeks I am going to order me a lone wolf barrel for my glock so that lead wont be an issue anymore. Then lead here I come!

Glad to have you casting with the rest of us

Im local to Rainier I called before Christmas they said to wait on my order that after the new year prices would drop I havent checked in with them yet. just relalize your paying someone elses prices not what Rainier has set.

Maybe with the high cost of ammo these days there are alot of people who have been willing to buy ammo now decideing to load there own and it causing major problems for retailers to kep everything in stock. I think its crap that they want to double charge you on shipping it would be better if they didnt except back orders in my opinion....

I tried one back order a few years back, but I wont do it again. It turned out that it was on order for better then 2 months and then they wanted a higher price because the sale was over. I said they could either honor the original price or just cancel it . They honored it, but it was the end of my doing the back order routine.
