The most intimidating that I can think of are the quad M-3's mounted in the tail of a B-52G. At least that's what my buddy says who was stationed at K.I. Sawyer AFB, MI, in the early '80's. A close in sentry on one of the alert birds in the AAA was walking his post when he noticed a funny "click-click-click" noise every time he walked around the back of the B-52. It seems that the gunner had left the targeting system switched on and the tail guns were tracking him as he walked around the rear of the aircraft. :what:

Well, at least it's a good war story..... ;)

I'm going to be more afraid of a Barrett pointed at me from 400 yards than a .50 DE from 300 yards.

I'd find neither one intimidating as I would probably not even see them at that distance.

I agree with the first response.... its the one pointed at me (that I know is pointed at me).

Not sure about most intimidating firearm, but my vote for most intimidating handgun goes to the Thunder 50.

I wasn't sure if the question is which is more intimidating to my foe, or more intimidating to me to fire.

So I chose the Barrett .50. That should do it for both occassions.:D

Gau 8 30mm gun. ( a DD if were playing stick in the mud)

I've had a gun or two pointed in my direction, some on purpose.

The scariest barrel down which I've ever looked was a .30-30 Win in the hands of a grizzled old coot with 4 days' stubble, torn jeans, a faded red shirt, and suspenders.

The combination of his grim countenance and that old beater rifle levelled from his midriff just plain shrivelled my raisins.

I was tresspassing and didn't know it.

I became real believer in respecting his property line after that.

A full auto .50 BMG =

It's not like you can duck behind a brick wall as cover from that thing.

That would be a good time to be Bugs Bunny; how he's always able to sneak up behind Elmer Fudd, and ask him what he's shooting at. That imparticular situation would be a good time to be able to do that.

There are more intimidating than a 12 gauge shotgun pointed at you. Now a 10 gauge double barrelled armed with 3 1/2 inch magnums would really do the trick. It makes me suffer everytime I have shot it, let alone anything its hit.

AK47 with big banana clip or a drum magazine would be very intimidating. just look at the 44 min bank robbery that happened. those two guys held off an entire police force with those guns

pump tactical 12 gauge is also very intimidating. sliding pump sound is awesome....enough to get the nerves rattled for sure!

but i really think the two most intimidating guns are the MG42 german machine gun and the U.S. M60 machine gun. the firepower is just awesome and those big belts of ammo just signal trouble.

Well, I'd think Ma Deuce.

Couple of thousand yards, a beaten zone like a plowed field. Kinda like a long-range shottie throwing Volkswagens ...:D

It is a fact:

When a firearm is pointed right at you, it's apparent caliber will be at least twice its actual caliber.

I.e. a 9mm will look like a 18mm cannon.

Even a lowly .25acp will look like it is a .50BMG.

Having looked down my share of gun barrels -- hey, I'm an instructor and I work at a gun store! -- I have got to say that the only time my heart really sank was when I was staring into the barrel of Ma Deuce. back of an Army deuce-and-a-half with an M2HB set up in the back.

I was going to a wedding reception at the club on the Army base here, and being post-9/11 by a few months, there was a LOT of security. About 50 yards from the guard shack was the open back of an Army deuce-and-a-half with an M2HB set up in the back.

That is a black, dark feeling. :uhoh:

Voted OTHER...

As some have already said, the most intimidating firearm is the one that you KNOW is pointed at YOU:uhoh: ! With the .50 Barret, you would probably be dead before hearing the shot, unless Ahhhnold was hefting that beast Rambo style in front of you(kinda like Mr. Ventura with the gatling in "Predator"lol). Forget what the commandos say, you point a .22 at me and I'm not going to think I can shrug one to the eye(or other vulnerable part) like Superman:what: ! With all the long range weapons listed, you would be dead before you had a chance to be intimidated, so the only correct answer has to be, " the firearm you KNOW is pointed at YOU"...

PS: If we are simply going for effect on an orginized army on army situation,"Metal Storm", wins hands down:p !! Come on, ONE MILLION ROUNDS A MINUTE, that is disconcerting:scrutiny: !!!

Still 2 Many Choices!?

The Dillon Minigun wins in terms of sheer firepower, for weapons seen out and about in the civilian world, but it just isn't all that intimidating-looking. I have to agree also that it all really depends at what distance, and under what circumstances. And less firearms-educated people may very well be intimidated more by some weapons than by others, due to a lack of knowledge and/or appearances. I'm less scared of Rambo holding an M60 than I would be to see someone prone a hundred yards away with a scoped Remington 700 pointed my way.
