I give my favorites names.

Olga : East German Makarov
Matilda: S&W Stealth Hunter .44mag
Duke: Marlin 1894 lever action .357 mag
 
I think giving assigning human traits to an inanimate object is ridiculous.

I think a lot of things are stupid. But after all the times I've worked on temperamental machines this is one notion that is far from stupid.
It's far less stupid than a lot of other very, very commonly accepted notions in society, for which we laud people for at every turn.
 
I knew a guy in the Army who called his M24 Sniper Rifle 'AT&T' The joke being "he could reach out and touch someone".

I figured the punchline was going to be: "Because it frequently drops people.".

Just like AT&T.
 
I think it's fine assigning names to guns and other inanimate objects. But I never do. My wife and I had a hard enough time coming up with names for our kids. It would be exhausting...
