Yesterday I saw a guy at Wally World wearing a black pleated kilt, black combat boots, cap. The kilt had a large silver cross dangling at the waist. What kind of outfit is this? Had a kind of a para-military air about it. Anyone out there see this before? Anyway, I thought if kilts for men come into fashion, there would open up a new way of concealed carry for men, with gun strapped to thigh under kilt. Very odd sight.

There is a thread on TFL about a guy who just got his CHP, and went to K-Mart for the first time "packing". He thought that everyone was staring at him, and then realized they were. He was wearing a kilt. Maybe it's the same guy.

Check out the movie Formula 51.

Samuel L Jackson wears a kilt throughout the movie (his name is McElroy).
Looks great on him. And some good kilt jokes too.

Also has a fun scene of a Mini 14 vs. a collection of handguns. Guess which one wins.

Funny I was just on their site last night trying to decide between the workman or the survival. Anyone here have a Utilkilt already and care to share their thoughts?? I am leaning towards the survival. (survival on the left, workman on the right)

OK I'm game for it too. Who here wants to be the first in their town to wear one?

You could have one of those short-barreled Hungarian AK47s as your CCW! :what:

I have both a formal Prince Charlie kilt outfit ($ 1300 custom made to measure and delivered off the airplane from Scotland), think of a tuxedo but with a kilt instead of pants, as well as two 'casual' kilts. I wore the formal outfit to my wedding, but otherwise just wear the kilt at either a formal affair, or the casual ones to the local Highland games. Utilitikilt and NeoKilt are both in the Seattle area, and I see a lot of people wearing them. I can tell you that a small auto or a small revolver conceals very nicely in a sporran!

PS: My ancestry is Welsh-Scots-Irish, and I earned my MBA from a Scottish University, so I like to think that a kilt is in my genes somewhere.

PPS: My formal kilt outfit looks just like the picture of Sean Connery on the www.kiltmen.com website. The only difference is that my kilt tartan is the Hunting Stewart modern. In fact, as I grow older, I am looking more like Sean Connery, at least in terms of the hair.....

Technically it's a good idea...

But ahead of it's time. I don't think we're ready for men in kilts yet in TN. And I have a feeling it's strictly a hot weather garment! ;)

Ultilkilts are hand made and if I recall correctly a CCW pocket can be ordered...

I did a write up on them a few years back for another publication.

I might be old-fashioned, but the idea of men wearing "skirts" while packing seems more than a slight bit frigtening  !! Now, if guys were wearing genuine scottish kilts and carrying a two-handed claymore, that wouldn't bother me (for some reason).......but the idea of having a guy pull up his kilt to unholster his "weapon" seems a little bit :scrutiny: to me. Just my .02.

That's the cool thing about a Utilikilt. It rides lower than the standard kilt, with the waist about where your jeans would normally ride. CCW just like you would any other way.

The obvious way to carry while wearing a kilt is in your sporran. I've packed a P-32 in my sporran before while wearing full scottish dress playing bagpipes. Also had a sgian dubhs in my sock as back up! :)

Kilts are on the comeback.

Lol, perhaps, but I don't see it reaching the level of mainstream - at its peak, will be roughly as popular as "men's European carryalls". Not that they don't have their utility, but.... I'm reminded of what Kramer said in the episode where Jerry carries one of those and wear a fur coat: "Yeah, that Jerry, he's a real fancy-boy." ;)

I always thought they were kinda cool....

And since we've been setting high-temp records here daily...And since my, um..nether regions tend to sweat, the idea is becoming more attractive...Cool in more ways than one!

I have an original with the neo-traditional closure... in Alabama no less. Dang it's hot today, and the chicks dig it.

Johnny in Huntsville
