Welcome to the January Rimfire Match! I hope that you'll all resolve to shoot more, and drag along a few friends this year. The match is open to any and EVERY 22 caliber (as well as 17 and 20 caliber) rimfire rifle including the perennial favorite .22LR, as well as the .22Short, .22Long, .22 Mag., .17HM2, .17HMR, and 5mm Rem RF Mag (as well as any oddball rimfires that you might have). This match is meant to be challenging and FUN. Hopefully it will get you out to the range and shooting your rifle. If you have one handy, make sure an bring a friend too.

Multiple submissions are allowed (in same or different division/class with same or different rifles).

There is Two Optics Divisions:
->Iron sights and non-magnified optics and red dots. Shot at 25yds.
->Scopes and other magnified sighting devices. Shot at 50yds.

There are Two Rifle Classes:
->Unlimited/Target Rifles (highly modified rifles, rests, target sights, high magnification optics- over 10x [in the appropriate division] may be used)
->Sporting Rifles (Includes All Non-Target Class Autoloaders, Bolt Actions, Single Shots, Pumps, & Lever Rifles)

Target Class can be shot from any position, Sporting Class is shot from any position without a rest or sandbags. When you are satisfied you've done your best post (or shoot me a PM) a photo of your target scoring with the following information: Forum name or name you want posted in the results, Rifle, make, model, vintage (if known), Sights/Optics (with magnification if applicable), Ammo, Position, Distance, Conditions (in/outdoors, wind, temperature...).

25/50Yd. Target: Stolen from the JDGray's concurrent Centerfire Match...Also Attached Below (thought it would be interesting to try the same target for both).

Scale to 100% on standard 8.5x11in. paper. Fire one shot at each dot, for a total of 15 shots. Scored as 1pt for breaking the line on the largest dot, 3 for doing likewise to the small white dot, and 5pts for staying completely within the white; for a total of 75 possible points.

Scoring Guide Self-scoring is encouraged and appreciated. All submissions due before February 1st.

:)

Hey Mav, dont wanna rain on your parade but we gonna be able to see those targets with iron sights?
Remember we had problems before?
I didnt print them off yet but they do look small, maybe they are alright?

Thanks for the input, Orlando. I remember having problems with small dots, but I thought that it was at the extended ranges (50yds for irons/100yds for optics), I have a few printed off, but I haven't ran it out to 25yds yet, so I can't say for certain (and it's dark not so I won't be able to until tomorrow at the earliest). If you (or anyone else) have any problems with it, let me know and we can either change the target (something similar, but with fewer/larger dots?) or the range (perhaps a 50ft. range for irons?).

:)

I may finally get a chance to shoot one of these. The circles are 1" and I think they would be okay for irons at 25yds. Although a 1" square would be better.

I took it out a couple of days ago and found that I could see the little dots, but if anyone has a problem seeing it, feel free to color in the dots (or if necessary we can still change the distance).

:)

Great now all I have to do is wait for the weather to break. 3 inches of fresh snow this morning high of 14 degrees and windy.
I sure will be glad for spring so I can get more range time in

Wish you the best, Orlando. Can't really complain here in NC, for the most part it has been pretty cool (and the wind has been vicious), but it seems to warm up a day or two a week (just have to wait for the schedule to open up on one of those calm, warm days).

:)

Has anyone shot this match yet and is the shooting distance for a scoped rifle 50 yards? I'm thinking of going out tomorrow to shoot this match along with the centerfire version. The original target listed (same version as the centerfire match) will be the one I'll be shooting.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I haven't had an opportunity to shoot yet. Good luck in both matches (and make sure to bring your daughter too).

:)

The 5in. of snow on the ground this morning means it'll probably be another week or so before getting out. This season's weather has been crazy.

:)

Haven't been in for a while, I gonna try this one!
Folks at my range play this game, they call it the donut game. hehe

Guess I'm the first to shoot this match. I shot this today in conjunction with the centerfire one. Temps were in the 40s with GUSTY winds. :cuss: I fired over 50 rounds before hand and couldn't even get a 3" group. Pretty disgusting! Shot my trusty (until today) Remington 541T HB target bolt action rifle topped with a 8-32x target/silhouette scope. Ammo used was Wolf Match. End result was a 12-0X. So I set a pretty LOW standard for you guys...now come out and play! :p

Welcome back Heavies!

9X23WIN, thanks for getting us started. I see your daughter didn't shoot today, which means there is still hope for the rest of us mere mortals. :p

i must confess i am guilty of constantly skipping over the stickies! shame on me! this looks like a fun competition. im gonna print off the target and take a hack at it with my scoped remington 597. might even break out the old winchester repeating arms with iron sights for the 25 yard challenge.

looks challenging!

Welcome aboard, Brandon! It is a common response...we have been doing this for some time now (I "filled in" about 1.5yrs ago). I really wish there was a way to get more folks to notice it (might try using a link in my sig. line)...a flashing banner would be great!

:)

Well, my good fortune has held so far, with conditions being calm if a little rainy yesterday. Same gun as the last few matches:

Savage Mark II
Bushnell 3-9x32mm
Shooting off a Harris Bipod
Wolf Match ammo
at 50 yards

I may shoot another one next week. I've got a Nikon Buckmaster on the way to replace the Bushnell. It hasn't been holding zero lately. We'll see if it makes a difference.

After scanning the target I think the bottom right one is a 3, not a 5, so I think I have a 59, not the 61 I wrote down.

Jon, that's good shooting! I also noticed you're from BA too. Where did you shoot the match?

Very nice shootin' Jon!
I hope to get out Saturday and shoot this and the centerfire match too.
Hope it isn't rainin' =p

9X23WIN, I shoot at the Sunnyvale Rod and Gun Club every Tuesday night. It's a nice facility and there's a good group of rimfire shooters, most of whom are silhouette shooters.

Jon, I shot my match across the bay at USI. I haven't been down to your club in years....well since my ATA days. Use to enjoy your club's pancake breakfasts before the trap shoots! :)
