NJ disease tries to spread

The problem, again, through the eyes of the NJ prosecutors/politicians, is that PA makes it too easy for PA residents to purchase firearms,

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!

We have a winner!

NJ has expressely indicated their wish that the rest or the nation have the same set of laws that they "live comfortably with".

I would have no problem passing a law in PA forbidding us from selling to NJ residents, if something simple will keep that state off our backs, great.

You might not have a problem, but as tom488 perceptively points out, that's not the problem they're trying to solve.

Fortunately, the PA state constitution would have a problem:

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms for the defense of themselves and their state shall not be questioned."

I can't seem to find any indication that this applies soley to "people" in PA.

From The Article said:
Of guns brought to New Jersey that turn up at crime scenes, far more are purchased in Pennsylvania than in any other state, according to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
What, nothing about how many guns used in crimes come from New Jersey? Last I looked, NJ was(is?) a state too!

From The Article said:
In New Jersey, 1,878 guns were used for in-state crimes last year. Of those, 483 came from within the state. The rest of the guns came from Pennsylvania and elsewhere.
See? More guns used in crimes in New Jersey came from New Jersey than Pennsylvania! Or any other state!

If the law makers in New Jersey would back off on the strict infringements to the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, there'd be less crime with more guns in the hands of the law abiding. Less guns would be "trafficked" across the river, and New Jersey gun dealers would do a lot more business and New Jersey would collect more taxes. The reduction in crime would lower the cost of fighting crime in New Jersey as well. Gee, increased tax revenue, lower law enforcement costs - what more could a state wish for?

There'd be less demand for guns trafficked into New Jersey what with the prospects of being a successful criminal in New Jersey diminished due to the increased number of the public armed in their own defense. Ah, but I make too much sense.

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms for the defense of themselves and their state shall not be questioned."
Nothing about not infringing the right, though. Plus you've got to be able to show you keep and bear arms solely for your defense or that of the state, and then the state is not restricted as to what arms you might use to that end. So even if they don't question that you have the right to keep and bear arms to defend yourself, nothing prevents the state from infringing upon the right. But this is more than what New Jersey has - which is nothing

Seems odd to me that Pennsylvania has a lower crime index than New Jersey yet the numbers in this article seem to state that Pennsylvania has more guns used in crime per capita than New Jersey by a factor of two! What would a person conclude from that? Each gun used in crime in New Jersey is used in more crime than the guns used in crime in Pennsylvania! Either that, or New Jersey just isn't collecting them all. It's a guess at best.

I wonder how much crime happening in Pennsylvania is committed by criminals from New Jersey - including straw purchases to the benefit of New Jersey criminals. Anyone know where to find such statistics? We know Bloomberg has made straw purchases in other states. Another statistic that would help would be a comparison to how many gun stores there are per capita in New Jersey compared to Pennsylvania. I would think that would be a very telling number.

"The Right of the People to move about freely in a secure manner shall not be infringed. Any manner of self defense shall not be restricted, regardless of the mode of travel or where you stop along the way, as it is the right so enumerated at both the beginning and end of any journey." B.E.Wood

Addendum to my previous comment:

Per the New Jersey State Constitution, there is an inference of the right to have arms that would be necessary to defend life and liberty and property, and safety in its first clause in its Article I; Rights And Privileges.
1. All persons are by nature free and independent, and have certain natural and unalienable rights, among which are those of enjoying and defending life and liberty, of acquiring, possessing, and protecting property, and of pursuing and obtaining safety and happiness.

And this in Clause 5:

5. No person shall be denied the enjoyment of any civil or military right, nor be discriminated against in the exercise of any civil or military right, nor be segregated in the militia or in the public schools, because of religious principles, race, color, ancestry or national origin.

Surely anyone expected to be called forth for militia duty would be expected to come forth armed...

The article is obviously tripe.

But since we're complaining, could all you guys commuting from PA on 80 and 15 and 78 in the morning find jobs in PA please?

Our traffic problem would disappear overnight. Then maybe we'd be in a better mood to fix the gun laws.

:)

Maybe if the gun laws in New Jersey were to be fixed, all those commuting to jobs in New Jersey from Pennsylvania would move to New Jersey. The Right to Keep and Bear Arms is more important to some people than a short commute to work. I know it is for me...

How many times must people get bit in the (insert appropriate anatomical region) before they figure out that infringing upon rights sets the stage for the detrimental acts those rights are there to deter? B.E.Wood

Actually, for the most part these are the NJ/NY folks who moved to PA to "live on the cheap" in PA but keep the NJ/NY job. Same folks I mentioned earlier who want to make changes in our small towns. I know and have met many folks who have moved here from NJ and NY in recent years and commute back to NJ/NY to work.

More prevalent in the border counties, but...ahh what can you do?...:banghead:

Let's keep up the good fight and keep the heat on these idiot legislators.

Some of us are here in NJ fighting the good fight, and with some effect. The "enhanced AWB" got stopped last year, and we're coordinating action against other anti bills. We've helped over a hundred NJ citizens get their FL carry permits, with more on the way.
