DeWine...

of Ohio only Republican to vote against cloture 22 Dems and Jumpin Jeffords voted with republicans. Now under quorum call @ 10:18 CT

In light of the White House statement yesterday specifying "no amendments", some of our Bush hating members might have a big ol' plate of crow to eat.

They just flashed that Dewine from Ohio was the only republican to vote against cloture. Even retiring RINO Fitzgerald who purports to represent me voted for it. I had him totally in the other camp...especially since he's not seeking re-election this time....

Jeff

Voting for cloture isn't the same as voting for the bill - that's an old political trick... you vote for cloture to effectively kill the bill and show your party you support them where it counts, then you vote against the bill after you know it is going down anyway to show your constituents that you backed what they wanted.

One thing about Bush, he knows how to lead. When push comes to shove, he can really whip the House and Senate into shape!

Ted Kennedy is whining now that the Senate should be taking up extending unemployment and raising the minimum wage instead of this issue.....

They sound done.....

Jeff

So it appears RMGO had bad information or exaggerated on a "Sellout." Sucks for them to be wrong, but I'm glad to hear it. Also glad to see NRA not compromising on this one.

Now, as to "Schoolyards": If you want to kill yourself between now and Sept 14, have the courage, courtesy and decency to do it privately in your home, not be a gutless p#$^y and shoot at kids until the cops fix you.

Actually, that's good advice forever. Or wear antlers on your head in November. But die like a man, not a worthless scumbag.

Feinstein, Durbin,Clinton, Akaka, Kennedy, Sarbannes, Wyden, Harkin, Hollings, Corzine, Dodd, Grahm of FL, Inouye, Lautenberg, Murray, Shumer, Cantwell and 5 others I couldn't keep up with.

Hey, I've been saying since before Sept 11 that I don't like a lot of what Bush has done, but at least he acts like an executive and not a namby-pamby poll watcher.

Refreshing to have a leader who LEADS rather than taking TV surveys.

Eight years without a president was long enough.

Wonder how rmgo and KABA will respond to this? Kinda jacks up their credibility, huh?

Oh well...maybe they'll come around. In the meantime, good on ya, NRA.

I'm wondering if they have earlier introduced an amendment dealing with the new Dept. of Labor regs to the bill?

I'm not sure what's going on...probably few of them in the senate chambers know either...

Jeff

I just went to RMGO and read the article... there is NO sources cited anywhere. Not even a QUOTE from anyone, just the author rambling! It reads like something from the Enquirer.
The NRA didn't warn members: as of the writing of this e-mail, there is nothing on their website regarding this deal.
Why would the NRA post something that didn't exist?

I hope this is another case of bad journalism.

Well, I'd wait until we see a final vote on the bill before we decide on that; but it is sure looking that way right now. For that matter, we sure got a lot of warning about amendments and so far nothing there either.

Considering they have about one hour left to file an amendment in our worst case scenario and only 30 hours left before the final vote, I'd say it looks like a lot of people were either way off on this one or we applied some serious arm-twisting.

DeWine of Ohio votes against cloture. Why am I not suprised? Between him and Guv. Booby "Flip. Flop. Which way is the wind blowing NOW?" Daft, I can't tell who the R.I.N.O. poster childs really is.

And unless I am grossly mistaken, Ohio State Sen Eric Fingerhut (Dem) is running against DeWine this fall. A Dem vs. A Repub that is a Dem.

Fingerhut is the guy that just about ruined CCW reform in Ohio.

Well, I had to babysit servers last night, so I haven't slept in over 24 hours. I'm hitting the sack. Talk to you guys tonight. Hopefully we'll have something to celebrate.

When Teddy was babbling on about special interests, and how this legislation is all about special interests, I think he must have forgotten to mention that trial lawyers (isn't that a special interest group?) would benefit greatly from defeating this bill. :barf:

Could it be that amendment talk and such was actually disinformation, in the hopes that gun owners would say 'screw the manufacturers', call their rep's and tell them to vote 'NO' for the bill??
