At least we have a dog in this fight, barking, growling and knashing teeth.
I'm glad that he's standing up and saying this stuff too, BUT I think the real fight is the one that we bring to their staff members with our calls and letters, not this debacle on the floor of the Senate. I can't imagine that a Rep. will listen to a Dem. speech and change his/her mind. I think they already know how they would vote on each amendment. If you want to change it or ensure that they don't waver, CONTACT THEM.

When I see how this stuff is done, it reminds me of a plugged toilet, with a big turd circling around and around, and the water gets deeper and deeper... Even if it becomes unplugged and goes down the way we want it, it's still disgusting to watch. Or it may overflow onto all of us.

Intune asked;
Does anyone else have a baaadd feeling in the pit of their stomach about all this?

Yes I do too. This is presidential election politics. The dems are trying to force the issue before Bush. If he sticks to his statements and signs it he will lose our vote (rightly so, I might add). And if he vetos it, they have him for changing his position and can beat him up in front of the soccer mommies....

The republican leadership should have killed the entire bill before they allowed this. Frist should have not allowed all these amendments. He should have let the bill die first and went back to it in the next Senate after they had a bigger majority. The republicans seem to be more concerned that the Washington Post and New York Times think they are bi-partisan then they are about winning or protecting the president. If it's their plan to serve up a little gun control to appease people then they still haven't gotten it.

It took Hastert 24 hours to try to back off what Delay said about the AWB ban not coming up in the House last year. There is a real danger we'll see this debated in the House if it gets out of the Senate. We need to kill the bill now.

No homocide in MA for 18 mos??

Here's some data that would contridict Sen. Kennedy's assertion: Massachusetts
Slayings raises fears that more will follow (Boston, MA): The recent killings of two Boston teenagers have caused concerns about a return of gang violence that was prominent in the '90s. Nine homicides have occurred in Boston in the first six weeks of the year, a rate that far exceeds last year, when only three people were killed by mid-February. Boston did not see its ninth homicide last year until mid-April. Recently, a 15-year-old boy was fatally stabbed as at least a dozen other youths stood nearby at a Dudley bus station. The day before, an 18-year-old died after being shot repeatedly outside a busy Mattapan Square grocery store. It was the second shooting that day. In the most recent incident, a 22-year-old man was critically wounded after being shot in the Dorchester's Fields Corner neighborhood. According to a professor at Northwestern University, gang-related violence increased in particular in Chicago and Los Angeles, where gang activity grew in the late 1980s and early 1990s before spreading to other cities. "Many gang leaders in Boston and other cities were imprisoned on federal charges in the late 1980s and early 1990s but have now been released," he added. Gang violence pushed Boston to a record-high 152 murders in 1990.

I've always thought they would eventually give up on banning guns and go after the ammo. Looks like that fight just got started in earnest. The only real surprise is that Kennedy is firing the first shot rather than Feinswine or Boxer.

she has 8.57, someone else has 18, she yielded 4 minutes to Kennedy.

Kennedy is up, talking about the economy.

Kennedy, you are on tv with a microphone, there is no need to yell. We can hear you, sadly.

Kennedy wants his economy plan passed this afternoon.

Kennedy got more time from someone else.

Some guy from Nevada yielded time?

Sombody should take the gasoline away from Kennedy so he can't drive any more young women into the water at Chappaquiddick...

Diggler, Kennedy's taking the gasoline away from everyone so he can't drive any more young women into the water at Chappaquiddick...

You're all doing a great job.

But... is there a way to listen/see this stuff without CSPAN2? I was bummed last night to find out I only get CSPAN (not 2) so I couldn't follow the senate.

I do know a brewpub that'll let me watch it though on satelite .. which isn't too bad :) Maybe Kennedy will make sense then.

XM Radio doesn't seen to carry a live feed of CSPAN2 either.. else I'd just go buy one.

Does ANY radio station carry it? Their RealPlayer feeds don't seem to be working for me either.

GigaBuist: Bart posted a weblink to a webcast that feeds from c-pan-2. If you look back a few hundred posts you should be able to find some of the links.

Calling quroum, Still going on about the economy.

4 minutes on one side 14:40 on the other.

Let's start cc-ing our house reps when we email the senators - it'll keep them up on our position and save time - they'll feel the crunch before they have to rework some of this stuff.

The Dems can't force anything without help from republicans. They don't have enough members. Don't let the traitors in the republican party slide by.

Just to let you guys know, this thread is the largest THR thread based on replies, and will become the largest based on views very shortly.

Just got off the phone with Senator Craig's office, now I'm going to call my critters...who may or may not be backstabbing, I can't tell yet... :scrutiny:

Someone's really giving it to Senator Warner. It took a couple calls to get through. I called and explained how I feel on the position, that he should pass 1805 with out any anti gun amendments... I specifically voiced concern over Kennedy's and Feinstein's amendments... I must have had a brainfart because the staffer who answered the phone said "Actually, he's cosponsoring that Amendment" which is something I knew already. Whoops. I responded that I was very dissapointed to learn this, and was assured that would be passed on... :(

The guy who answered at Senator Allen's office was more polite and sounded like he was in less of a hurry. He actually paused, I think he wrote down what I told him about the amendments to 1805. He promised to personally pass my concerns on to the Senator - that doesn't mean he will of course, but it was a nice thing to tell me. ;)

This topic will seem small compared to the traffic that the AWB sunset generates in Sept. I bet

I suggest everyone call, I also posted an e-mail thing from the GOA which can be found on a few threads, including the floated one. Calling is better than e-mailing though.

FYI: You can go into your options settings (inside user cp) and change the number of posts per page. I have mine set to 80 right now, we are on page 10 by my count.

Din Nickels R-Oaklahoma wanted to make an amendment, the chair said it was not timely. (I missed part of it so I could be wrong) He said it would do it later.

John Ensign R-evada is going to talk for 6 minutes about the economy.

I think the Republicans are winning the economy debate, they are using more logic than the Dems, all of the dems are speaking emotionally and siting victims of unemployment for their arguments.

Which is what the party leadership is supposed to do. Frist has a responsibility to stop this through his authority as majority leader if he can't keep the traitors in line....We shouldn't have to be punishing the traitors...He should be...The republicans in congress have no idea how to win....

3 minutes, and 2 minutes left on the two sides. I think, I was not ready when Maria D-Washington started talking about the economy.

I would like the Republicans a lot more if they had more backbone.

Dems have 34 secs. left

2617 amendment... is being talked about...

taking vote!! ?? - nope they did not

asking for it to be set aside.

moving to issue of voting rights.

Assistant majority leader Mitch McConnell R-Kentucky is talking about civil rights.

Talking about various forms of voting fruad.
1863 MTK made I have a dream speech... - I wonder how long this will last.
