I've got a CZ 527 Carbine, 7.62x39. Just wondering if anyone knows of a set of rings in the European 16mm dovetail, that are made as "see through" rings. Oddly, the stock CZ rings that came with my rifle are tall enough that they could be see through, its almost tempting to try and drill them out... But I'd rather get ones made for this.

I have a thing for guns with irons and glass, and the ability to use either/or.

bad idea

my uncle felt the same way about having a see thru mount. had a deer in his cross hairs then shifted to the iron sights, where upon he fired and missed. I asked why he didn't just pull the trigger while looking through the scope? he had no logical reason. IMHO they are the biggest waste of money ever spent. If you are worried that you might somehow break a scope then buy detachable mounts. It would be money better spent.

I also own a CZ 527 carbine in 7.62x39 with a Leoupold 2-7 compact and totally love it for woods hunting.

I like to have iron sights on a rifle for backup.

But see through mounts are crap.

It is impossible to get a good sight picture trying to look through the rings. If you want redundancy, get a good scope and mounts. Take an allen wrench with you so you can remove them if you break your scope, and then you can use irons.

I know where you are coming from, but there is a better way than see through mounts.

I see people with M14s all the time with crazy high mounted scopes because (besides not being a platform conducive to optics) they insist on being able to use their irons also. I never understand why they go through the trouble and expense of optics to mount it up high like that.
