So How Many Different Types of Guns Are There?

I've seen numerous terms used here, i.e., vacation guns, truck guns, woods guns, walking guns, tractor guns, and some others.

Aside from the typical hunting, target shooting, trap, self defense, what else ya' got?

To expand the market, industry has turned firearms into something similar to the fashion industry. What was in yesterday, is out today. Their are an infinite number of niches to fill.

Yep who would have thought 20+ years ago we would have pink, blue, tan, a myriad of colors on a gun?? I have no issue with them, just wouldn't have thought we would see them. It may attract new gun owners. I like blue, SS and Camo.

I recall them from maybe 40 years ago.
High Standard finished Sentinel revolvers in pink, turquoise, and gold.
Remington offered the Model 572 pump .22 in Crow's Wing Black, Buckskin Gold, and Teal Wing Blue.

Oh, I just remembered another type - "Silhouette" (IHMSA) handguns - like my wife's 10.5" Ruger Super Silhouette, .44 Mag revolvers, and my 14" Remington XP-100 7mm IHMSA bolt-action, single shot. Either of those "Silhouette" handguns could be pressed into service for hunting I suppose, but why? They're huge, and as inconvenient to carry around as a rifle. Or at they're least as inconvenient to carry around as a short-barreled carbine. And a person would be well advised to never fire either one of those handguns without real good hearing protection.
After we quit shooting IHMSA, my wife sold one of her .44 Mag "Super Silhouettes," and had a 6" barrel installed on the other - to make it more "practical," she says. I can't even remember the last time I fired my XP-100 7mm IHMSA. It's the "Queen" of my Safe Queens.;)

Jeez, you guys have forgotten one of the most common gun types that I'm sure a great many of you have owned for years.

The Project Gun. As in "this gun's a project it needs work, restoring, upgrading, whatever." Doesn't work and has laid around in your safe or gun cabinet for years.

Don't try to deny you don't have any!

Dream gun
Collectible gun
Grail gun
Elephant gun
Duck gun
Goose gun
Punt gun (similar to goose gun)
BB gun
Pellet gun
Potato gun
Starter gun
Smart gun
Heat gun
Glue gun
Blue gun
Chain gun
Main gun
Gatling gun
Spray gun

This could take awhile…..

Yeah, see, I don't think "safe queens" and "project guns" deserve honorable mention, here. Sure, we all have them, but they don't serve us, unless you
consider being a tedious waste of resources a "service".

Fishing guns.
Tackle box handgun for snakes or finishing off a big fish.
Also Clinch River, Southwest Virginia, has a special season for shooting fish (mostly carp I believe) using ifles that fire long heavy bullets (like .30-40 Krag 220 grain bullet) for penetration thru water..
High velocity rifle bullets just shatter when they impact water.
