I'm going to leave the definitions of "serious reliability issues" up to you to define. But I'm very curious both about the ownership numbers, and the performance stats on a bunch of autoloaders. Please vote and select all that apply. Let's see how this breaks down over time.

Edit:

I'm going to plug a percentage graph in here and update the data from time to time. This one's as of 251 respondents. Note, that the percentages are relative to respondents on a particular pistol. Eg, sig's percentage is relative only to respondents answering A or B for sigs.

No major problems with a Glock 23, despite modding the heck out of it. Did have a couple limp-wrist jams when I first got it, but no longer. I can't even purposely induce those jams anymore, despite putting in a 22 pound recoil spring.

I've seen just about every gun list on that list jammed up in way that I couldn't figure out how it happened. But no firearm that I have owned or used has had a problem beyond the little stuff.

I've owned my XD-40 since March of 2002, but have only been seriously shooting it since Jan '06. Two years and 4500 rounds later, zero malfunctions. Its a truly great pistol and I love it.

My SA SS Loaded Champ has been perfect. Unlike the GI champ I traded for it.

I know. And no HKs either. Also shameful. I blame the 1911s. My observations (just my own) have been that 1911 reliability seems to vary WIDELY between manufacturers. And, it probably would've been equally tragic to just lump all 1911s into one category. I'd really like to have about 30 pistols up there. But I only get 16 options. Maybe I'll do a follow up poll sometime in the future and go over the stuff not included here.

I'm very interested in the responses though. Thus far, things are stacking up the way I thought they might. But we'll see as more people vote.

My Glock 23 has been outstanding. Well into 10,000 rounds now and not one miss-feed or problem ever. A simple ingenious marvel of our time.

I was just thinking that I wish they made rifles. I would buy one for sure!

Interesting poll. But, you forgot the limp-wristing disclaimer under Kimbers. :neener: OMW I couldn't resist. <<Lord forgive me...and be with the pig...>> Doc2005

I have had NO reliability issues w/ Glocks, SIGs, Colts, Berettas, HKs or my Browning Hi-Power.
The only time I've had real issues was when I introduced mods that made things worse

...And metal Smith & Wessons. Both of mine have been flawless (5946 and 3914).

Yeah, I was thinking of those too. There are a bunch of brands/types I thought of, but couldn't fit in the poll. I'm probably going to have to do another one for all the common stuff that wasn't included.

The way the data's stacking up so far is surprising me. The percentages of folks who've had serious problems with ALL brands is kind of shocking, really.

I hope this data keeps piling up. I realize it's compeletely unscientific, but it still serves as a barometer of sorts. And it's really wild.

Right now for example, 9% of Sig owners have had serious issues with at least one P series. I would've expected that number to be closer to 2 or 3 percent. The rate's identical for glock owners. That's another one I'm surprised about. Again, I realize this is completely unscientific, because we're lumping guys in that have ONE pistol with guys that maybe have 20 pistols in the same category. The guy with 20 pistols in one category is much more likely to have come across a problem in his lifetime. So this poll's completely statistically invalid. But it certainly speaks to perception, no? And wow, 43% of Kimber owners here have had serious problems with their pistols? If I were in Kimber's marketing or QC departments and looking at this poll, I'd be completely freaking out right now.

Kimber?

with a failure % of 47% so far, are Kimber 1911s that bad?

My friend is planning on getting one is he in for trouble?

I own (or owned) and never experienced a single problem with: Sig 228, Springfield XD, and Glock 17.

I own a Springfield 1911 and had some jamming problems when it was brand new, but they went away after a couple hundred rounds and I've never had a problem since. Now, it's as reliable as a Swiss watch.

Beretta 92FS, always had problems with the mag release.
mag would drop out for no reason, had it back to factory twice, same problems over and over.

Kimber pro carry 2, stove pipes with ball ammo, and frame cracked.

both are GONE.

Well, keep in mind that this poll is completely unscientific. It doesn't account for an awful lot of controls. Like one poster above talked about crappy performance during "break in" then solid performance after. We have no idea which way people voted when something like that occurs. I intentionally left the definitions of "serious reliability issues" up to the poll taker. So the short answer is, "I don't know." But it sure looks interesting.

I think someone went a little crazy now it seems to be going down, i personally have had no problems with my Kimber Custom II, with a few mods... I'd recommed a Kimber to anyone...
