Ant Mod - NOT an Idiot

Ant Mod - I wouldn't call you an Idiot. Who is this classy old lady anyhow? I'm not spotting whether this is an Enfield or a Webly? Tell us more ...

My first pistol was a Glock 17 when they were brand new in the US (1986) and every newspaper editorial and left-leaning politician wanted to ban them because they were the choice of terrorists - then I DEFINITELY wanted one! No regrets as it has served me faithfully and trouble free since then.

Colt Government Series 70. Bought it 20+ years ago and it is currently on my belt in an excellent Milt Sparks Watch-Six holster.

I bought it because I had enlisted as an army MP and wanted to practice before going in. I put many rounds through it before shipping out and was confident of shooting expert, if not perfect. Then we went to the pistol range for the first familiarization firing.

I quickly learned that my personal weapon with the nice trigger job bore little resemblance to a beat-up G.I. .45 with a heavy trigger. Oh man. I was lucky to make sharpshooter, but subsequently qualified expert each year.

What a difference a trigger makes.

Ruger P-95; 9mm. Great gun. Only one that I that I wish I would have kept. Sold it to finance something else.

My first handgun was a Taurus 608 4" ported stainless. Bought as a home defense gun in 1996 shortly after I bought my house. Like it a lot. My first semi-auto was a S&W 4046 police trade in I bought just because I wanted a semi-auto. Dependable, but the double action trigger sucks. My first CZ was a 97B bought on impulse because I was shopping for a .45 and loved the feel. I'm now a CZ nut, pity me.

My first sidearm was a 7.62x25mm TT-33 Tokarev when I was 12 years old.
I was profoundly hung up (and still am) on WWII weapons and it was all a guy willing to sell a pistol to a twelve year old had. Wish I'd kept the thing :(

Ruger Mk1 6" barrel. bought it in '87. Beautiful and never jammed. Used money from my concrete laying job. I was 17 and didn't know I couldn't buy it. Of course neither did the seller.

Dumbest thing I ever did was sell it a year and a half latter.

I will have another, just to help calm the waves of guilt that still come every time I see one.

My first pistol was a pietta made 1851 Navy revolver. I am a Civil War buff and was able to talk my Dad into buying it for me.

My first "modern" pistol was a Russian Ij-70 Makarov. This is the gun that made me a big fan of Russian firearms. I have put maybe 2000 rounds through this Mak. The gunshop had Makarovs for sale, $189, two magazines, a holster, cleaning rod, a third magazine and two boxes of ammo.

An Iver Johnson TP22

I put hundreds of rounds through that pistol and I can't recall even one malfunction.

In 1967 I bought a Colt Gold Cup and a S&W m15 the same day. Several weeks later I bought my first shotgun, a Winchester 101. Before the year was out I bought my first centerfire rifle, a 7mmMag Remington.

Taurus 617S 7-shot .357 snubbie.

That was my first gun purchase. It's actually quite a nice little gun and has never given me any problems. Knowing now what I didn't know then it wouldn't be my choice for a first gun. My wife shoots it better than I do so it's hers now.

Just being curious Bryan, but what have you learned to change your mind on the purchase?

Here is a picture of my first handgun along with the knife I carry everyday.

HK P7 M13

My P7 was my first purchase (pistol)
- when I got the chance to hold it the first time in my hands, I knew for sure what to buy some years later

Was a revolver.

July 1962, S&W K-22 6" bbl. slightly used but in excellent condition...$59.00.

Actually, it had to be in my Father's name at the time because I was not yet 21. ;)
