moved lever forward to eject new cartridge, hung up and jammed the lever open.
Ret56, welcome in.

I've experienced that very thing in my 336, but not in my 39.
(Which is still at the smith's. Too busy to get it yet.
Did I mention no days off since August?)

I'll follow this with interest.

Rollis, welcome back.
We'll try to slow down,
but no promises.

And yeah, what's with that house?
Doesn't look like a happy camp.

That house was demoed in early September to make way for the new house and yes we took the wheels off of it. My 39a was once again having failer to eject issus again, this is after the extractor was replaced. I am going to let my smith tear into it again as soon as I take every thing out of my friends vault.

Slugless, about that crazy idea, yeah the idea was to cobble together a Mountie from a normal 39A using other parts, obviously that idea was stillborn.

I hope you are banking the big paychecks for that.
Frank, I've been doing a MAJOR overhaul of my business for the last six months, and am just now "re-opening" my doors to clients again. During that time, I just had to "get it done", so took no days "off" other than occasionally hanging out with friends for a few hours and pleasant distractions at THR, both of which helped me maintain my sanity, plus the understanding that the intensity will end: there is a light at the end of this tunnel. (My professional life has always worked this way: a few months of intensity, then some slack; a few months of intensity, then some slack ... )

Business is still pretty slow, but beginning to pick up steam now, and I'm confident that it will continue to do so over the next few months. It's just going to take me a few months to rebuild my customer base, get them familiar with my new program and product line. Thankfully, it's getting very good reviews.

I hope to be back to a place where I can take time off soon, and spend some time at the range and in the woods. But I gotta make sure overhead is covered first. No rest until then. ;)

Thanks for your concern, though. :)

I went out to the range today.

Some days I shoot pretty good, and other days I'm only so-so.

Last week I was smoking hot. This week I was more like luke warm.

here's a video of me hitting the rock at 200 yards. I think I got it three out of five.

Click on the pic to view.

It's a rock. No holes.

There's chips off of it laying all around it.:D

Edit... I missed the 3X5 part. I bet I could hit it at least a couple of times with a magazine full.

Maybe I'll try it next time.

Magazine Tube Problem

Well I purchased a m39 for $100. The gun is in good shape so as I started cleaning it I found a cracked butt stock and promptly orded a butt stock and fore stock. After installing a new front sight and stock I took it to the range and found I had a feed problem. Looking the inner magizine tube I found it not to seat in the bottom of the receiver. Now here is the kicker. The m39 is a carbine mountie style. Serial number AB216XX. It came with 3 sets of magizine tubes, none of which is the right length. The tube in gun measures 16 5/16" long. The question is where do I get another outter and inner magazine tube that will work??:banghead:

Wow, Ghost. I feel your pain. So sorry to hear of the hassles, but ...

For $100 for that gun, I'd say stick it out. It'll be worth it.
That's probably why it was $100 (an unheard of price for a well-functioning one).

I'll let others more knowledgeable than me offer advice on parts and fixing things.
There are [strike]several[/strike] a bunch of folks in the club that can steer you in the right direction.
Hopefully we can all learn from your repair process, and get you up and shooting soon. :)

Hang in there, and keep us posted.

New Guy wanting a 39

Since doing a little shooting over Christmas I have the bug to get me a lever 22. I spent a little time looking on the net and immediately liked the Marlin, Talked with my favorite Gunsmith (Brother) and was even more in need of a Marlin lever. We were raised on bolts and pumps, I don't know why it took so long but I am on the hunt, which is how I got here.
I am running an add in the local paper this weekend and hope to get some nice ones to look at, If I have to I could get a rough one and give it a makeover with a little help, It will definately get a peepsite then just lots of shootin. I may have a problem stopping at just 1 if I get a few calls.

Welcome to THR and the club!

(Nem, chalk up another one!)

Hyperpack, I re-read your post and I don't think you could come up with a better plan. I hope you got some ones local to you. Good hunting.

More than one? I hope I don't see a 39D at the gunshow this weekend or else I'm going to have an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other...

GhostW,

The mag tube on my mountie measures 20" from end to end including the length of follower that sticks out.

The visible portion of the brass tube measures 19"

I've never taken apart my mag tube but perhaps you could get a full length one and cut off the top?

I recommend posting at www.rimfirecentral.com - in the Marlin section. Buncha good folks there.

Many of us would say the same thing. I know when I finally got my first 39 as an adult I asked myself why did I wait so long. I even regretted passing up a few that were $25-$50 "too much."

By the time I purchased my third 39 (A Mountie) and paid what I considered a ransom, any regret evaporated before finishing the first magazine's worth of shooting.

You just can't put a price on fun and if shooting a quality rimfire rifle is fun to you a Model 39 is about as good as it gets.

I'm sure Captain Nema and the whole THR 39 community will accept your application and welcome you to the fold. Anytime you need enabling, just post. We're here to accommodate.

HP, welcome.

Glad to see our numbers continuing to increase.

I was raised on pumps and semi-autos, but levers are my love now.

Good luck finding one. Please let us know when you find one,
or if you need any advice before you purchase.

Nem,

I am ready for the next 39 Club Postal Match! We can do another round of the 3x5 cards or entertain new ideas.

Off hand paper plates at 50?

+1 on the Winter 2008 postal match! Lets do it!

The nice part about the 3x5's is they are easy to mail. My vote is to add a 50 yard class (sitting/prone or benched) and a 25 yard Off Hand class.

Retired56 M39 Jam

Hi Ret56
I have had the same problem with my 30yo M39A. Got some very good advice on other forums and it seemed to work for a bit. Even changed the inner tube to no avail. It always did it on the last cartridge. Finally I was looking at the outer tube and realized that it was turned just a mite off center. Very carefully I realigned the hole the cartridges are put in with the centerline of the rifle. Haven't had a problem since with either inner tube. I also noticed that the multi-tube reloader I use that loads from the end of the outer tube had started to bend the lip on the outer tube which was interfering with the free movement of the inner tube. (Do you have a headache yet:confused:). Be careful if you use one on any tube fed rifle.
Just my nickle's worth.
