I can provide some crappie !
And be welcomed with open arms, too.
Fried black crappie is really good in tacos bajas. The trimmings make really nice pan-fried fishcakes. Somewhere in my pile of recipe clippings is a recipe for crappie "stuffed" with crab (more of a "Kiev" style with the stuffing between two slices before breading. It's then baked, a dutch oven on a fire works; as will the hot end of a smoker.

We get somebody to bring us some trout, that will go on the smoker like a dream.

That's nice of you. I already ate all the crappies I caught this year, and don't often offer to share them. I'll share catfish, even though I like them just as much...I just don't have to work as hard for them. IMG_20180909_164402.jpg

I've shot carp with a bow, and turtles with a .22, but never shot fish with a gun, barrel or no barrel.

Crappie??? Man I feel sorry for those that don't live by the ocean ;). What y'all call dinner we call bait.

Bah, I love saltwater fish as much as the next guy but gimme fried panfish any day of the week. Especially Crappie, catch a bunch soaking a line (and your liver with some good brews) and fry em up fer dinner.

Dang, it's been too long since I've been fishing.

For a good barbecue in the Midwest, it would be a ribeye from a Fareway butcher shop, a six pack of Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy, and my Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley in .45 Colt.

Love me some Leinies but I could never get behind the Shandy. Creamy Dark is my go-to if I can't get a real Porter or Stout, but in the summer Honey Weiss was always my go to, or just their basic Lager. Drinking one of those right now, in fact.

I believe Gaiudo likes trout fishing.
If I still was first mate on my Dad's Great Lakes boat, I'd be able to provide Steelhead; they are delicious smoked. He sold it some years ago, unfortunately. :(

Summer Shandy is lemonade for adults. If I go dark, I either drink Irish Death or a local stout called Postal Porter. I do enjoy a good dark beer, but mostly in the Fall or Winter.

Where I’m moving to there are a couple trout streams. Nothing big, but they are big enough to eat if you catch em by the dozen. Fly rod is ready and I have the fly tying kit where it’s easy to get to. Too bad I’m buying into a subdivision, but the subdivision has a 10 acre (I’m guessing at size there) park in a flood prone area where the creek flows through. The creek circles around about 100 yards off the corner of my property and the owners of that property have responded to my email about accessing the creek by essentially saying that they aren’t giving permission because that implies liability, but have fun and don’t sue them if I get hurt.

Brownies and Brookies can be elusive, and not very big for the work required. Which may be why I have a pocket full of of recipes for smoking them (more wet/hot than dry/cold cures) which is a handy way of getting them to meal-sized proportions.
Or for cranking out a bunch of appetizers, for that matter.

Working bank edges and streams in waders also suggests chest rig holsters with shiny shooters in stainless or nickle finish, too.

I don't really see a difference. I take the same size bites whether it's a big fish or a little one.

My carry gun spent about 3 hours submerged a few weeks ago while I was wading (chest deep is probably beyond wading though) for smallmouth bass. It wasn't my favorite option, but didn't hurt anything. Dried, cleaned, lubed, fired...all is well.
I'd never consider doing that in salty water, so I'll stick to fishing for bait.

Having reeled in dorado & yellowfin, there are advantages to fish that fit in ordinary frying pans [:)]
(and do not need a .22 to the noggin [:)] or a deckhand with a gaff)

Mind, a pitmaster who'd turn away fresh kingfish would need some reassessment [:)]

Only if nobody tosses out an anchor
Thought I'd heard somewhere that 1911's make good anchors. Or was it hammers? Flyswatters?

This one didn't mind the bath I gave it. I doubt I could count on it for extra flotation if I stepped off over my head, but at least it's not so heavy it would make me sink faster.

Oh, we have those too; They're called muskies.
This is one my uncle caught in 1964, in Bone Lake, WI.
I don't know if this is the one he shot while it was flopping around in the boat, necessitating a trip to shore, but he kept a .22 Kit Gun in his tackle box for such occasions.

I swam in that lake as a kid!

Since some personal bragging has occurred, I'll toss this in the ring:

14# Steelhead I caught halfway to Ludington from Keewaunee. This would be 1989, about 6 months after I got out of the Army. That's my Dad's salmon boat back then.
