Too late in the year, now, for bugs--but a full-on bayou boil with crabs, shrimp, fish, etc. and a cart full of Zatrain's would not go amiss.Maybe a mud bug boil?

And be welcomed with open arms, too.I can provide some crappie !
That's nice of you. I already ate all the crappies I caught this year, and don't often offer to share them. I'll share catfish, even though I like them just as much...I just don't have to work as hard for them.I can provide some crappie !View attachment 1014106 View attachment 1014108
Crappie??? Man I feel sorry for those that don't live by the ocean . What y'all call dinner we call bait.
For a good barbecue in the Midwest, it would be a ribeye from a Fareway butcher shop, a six pack of Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy, and my Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley in .45 Colt.
And be welcomed with open arms, too.
Fried black crappie is really good in tacos bajas. The trimmings make really nice pan-fried fishcakes. Somewhere in my pile of recipe clippings is a recipe for crappie "stuffed" with crab (more of a "Kiev" style with the stuffing between two slices before breading. It's then baked, a dutch oven on a fire works; as will the hot end of a smoker.
We get somebody to bring us some trout, that will go on the smoker like a dream.
Love me some Leinies but I could never get behind the Shandy. Creamy Dark is my go-to if I can't get a real Porter or Stout, but in the summer Honey Weiss was always my go to, or just their basic Lager. Drinking one of those right now, in fact.

Brownies and Brookies can be elusive, and not very big for the work required. Which may be why I have a pocket full of of recipes for smoking them (more wet/hot than dry/cold cures) which is a handy way of getting them to meal-sized proportions.Nothing big, but they are big enough to eat if you catch em by the dozen.
I don't really see a difference. I take the same size bites whether it's a big fish or a little one.Crappie??? Man I feel sorry for those that don't live by the ocean . What y'all call dinner we call bait.
Having reeled in dorado & yellowfin, there are advantages to fish that fit in ordinary frying pans []Crappie??? Man I feel sorry for those that don't live by the ocean . What y'all call dinner we call bait.
Thought I'd heard somewhere that 1911's make good anchors. Or was it hammers? Flyswatters?Only if nobody tosses out an anchor
I'll see your lake trout and raise you an Ozark minnow: (about 1990 ish) Is this thread drift, or what?

(and do not need a .22 to the noggin [] or a deckhand with a gaff)
I suspect a few of us might also tell a few tall tales, especially once the shooting is over and the whiskey's been poured. So now its the THR BBQ/FISH FRY/GUN SHOW/TOURNAMENT.

Maybe this can replace the fall Knob Creek shoot in the future…meant as a joke, but I got sad just typing that.So now its the THR BBQ/FISH FRY/GUN SHOW/TOURNAMENT.
