What are your Gun Goals for 2023?

Shooting all the ones I already own and load for , Don't need or want any more even if they're self cleaning 3 mile accurate . Making buying assembly any more doesn't help one bit , with shooting ALL My existing models :)

I ended up with a beautiful gun for my second gun of the new year. A S&W Model 28-2 manufactured in 1969 and converted from .357 to .41 Magnum!

Now I have to think about my next gun. I don't own any rifles yet. I have lots of .22 LR ammo (over 1000 rounds). Something really fun is the way to go, an old cowboy style rifle.

No, I don't have to think about my next gun, as I have it. Now I have to think about how to stop buying guns so often. Three in January. The third was that I went back to get the 20-gauge double barrel shotgun that I saw at the GS and it was gone but then I spied a S&W Chief's Special .45 ACP pistol that I just could not let slip, so that became my third gun of 2023 on 30 January! Great shooter too! :)

I want to get a 2nd AR-15 rifle. I have had the same Colt AR-15A2 (full sized) for over 30 years and I've been happy with it. However, the idea of something like a 16 inch barrelled AR in .300 Blackout appeals to me. Gotta save my pennies.

Or, speaking as enabler of the month candidate for February, you could get an AR10 in 308! ;)

So there is a NAA revolver in 22LR at one LGS for $250 on consignment. That is about the price new. If it were say, $175 I might go for it, especially since it has a leather holster and the original box. Consignment, so won't lower price. Would rather order a new one as the holster is not needed, not going to carry. I can't think of any other guns I want now, well, maybe . . . a double barrel shotgun, pistol caliber AR, another .38 revolver, some kind of rifle (I have no rifles), a top-break revolver, more barrels for the Bond Derringer. Okay, I guess that is enough to get me through 2023 and maybe a couple more years.

My gun goals are to sell off some of my rifles and maybe pistols.

The Norinco AK and Chicom SKS to start.
The Savage 111 FNS in .300 WM.
An older 7mm Rem 700 with VX3

At 73, I probly shouldn't have bought the Henry .44 or the G20.

Gotta sort the guns out and start downsizing.

Maybe ammo too.
1500 rounds of blue plastic x51 ill.probly never shoot.

So, overall, I'll have to make a list, see what I might be able to get for them, list them and see what happens.
I got a nice offer for the AK. That kind of jumpstarted my resolve to downsize.

Figure out the FAL's gas system. Using weak, lowest-priced .308 ammo really confuses the subject.

A guy at our club, who built a few of the parts kits said to buy some true 7.62x51 to best evaluate the Gas Vent Selector's settings.

Second goal: to Store about 500 rds. of brass-cased .308 ammo.

I really don't have much to sell at this point...I did some selling in 2020-2022 and did okay (no losses, minor gains).

I want to add a 16" Ruger SFAR to the inventory using Cabelas Club points. I have almost $900 now.

Bought this last weekend…

Want to get my first suppressor for the SFAR...looking at the Banish 30. Gotta build up funds.

I also plan to continue my slow quest to find a second 9MM platform other than Glock. Looking hard at Walther PDP F series.

Update: I realize we are early in 2023 but this is no longer a goal…will delete…

I do want a Glock Gen 5 in .40, either a G23 or G22...but that's a soft want.

Thinking of buying an optic ready slide for a Gen 4 G17...another soft want

Want another G44 for training and more G44 mags. These will eventually become grandkid guns.

Probably load up several thousand 9MM and build a good 10MM load

Update: Got 1000 of the 9MM loaded but will likely just add commercial 9MM for the rest if prices drop to $200/1000

Maybe add a bolt action rifle. Would like a 6.5CM but .308 makes more sense for me rather than add another caliber to deal with...not shooting over 500 yards max...mostly out to 300. But SFAR will come first.

Put in more dry fire and BB gun practice from home

I took an instructor course through USCCA...have not done anything with it since. Not sure if I want to teach basic classes formally or not. I do a lot of informal training and firearm introduction with friends and references...

Add another Henry .22 for my granddaughter to the safe (she is 1 YO)

Start buying 9MM again if/when prices get sub $200/1000.

Already addressed above

Keep accumulating .22LR because...why not?

Been buying a box of Federal Automatch at $22/350 when I stop by Wally Mart…

Looking at some gun maintenance tools...the Real Avid bench vise looks handy... https://www.amazon.com/Real-Avid-Precision-Woodworking-Sharpening/dp/B09JVM21XR

!

A few updates in bold above

Well my LGS frequently has pallets of 1000-round 9mm boxes. Couple weeks ago they had a pallet and it was $280 for 1000 rounds. Yesterday I went in and they had a new pallet and were asking $300! Too much. I pay $12 a box of 50 at Cavalry, but there is shipping on that.

I’m not in a hurry and the 9MM I’m looking for to stock up on is the Blazer aluminum case 115. I think it will get close to $200/1000 and I’ll buy then. I have plenty of brass case ammo and 8 gallons of cleaned and deprimed brass cases, so I’m looking for stuff I can stock cheap for when I go places where I cannot easily reclaim my brass.

I have not seen it that cheap, but if I do, ought to grab a box of 1000. Just got an email from Bud's Gun Shop have Blazer 9mm FMJ for $11.99 a box of 50. That is reasonable for a few 50-round boxes anyway.

Buzznrose:
Make sure that there won't be the type of very tragic event which prompts politicians (the types who Now Ignore the huge chemical spill dangers in OH) to make threats about guns,

resulting in a new ammo Panic- in the days right before you plan to order a chunk of ammo at "x" price.

This applies to everybody.

So I am currently wanting a Bond Arms Rough Series 2.5" barrel in .327 Federal Magnum. I see it on their website for only $114 MSRP, but my LGS is not able to get it from their suppliers (not sure why they can't go straight to Bond, but should ask the owner). I figure I can shoot some of the .32 S&W Longs I have in my stash. I also would see if a .32 ACP fits that barrel, but have been warned not to shoot it with the ACPs.

I’m not hurting for ammo, I stocked up pretty good pre-COVID/Brandon/world went upside down. Haven’t bought any ammo other than .22, 30-30, and .308 when I found some in a great sale.

But I’ve been shooting, and bringing folks to shoot. I’ve mostly been shooting my reloads and shooting guests shoot factory ammo. I’m just looking to put away a couple thousand rounds of commercial ammo in cases I won’t have to worry about picking up, preferably aluminum but maybe steel.

Buzznrose: At least you started much earlier with .308 shooting, and I'm sure with guns 'in general'. My only really large reserve has been 7.62x39, growing since " pre-election " October 2008.

Buying my first .308 semi-auto rifle last spring (steel -is preferred- for the PTR-91) and now brass-cased ammo for the very new (old) FAL known as SAR-4800, so much cash is needed to feed true battle rifles,
and extra is needed just to understand gas selector settings.

Guess my goals have updated a bit. So starting next month or within the next few weeks, as a reward for paying off my student loans, I will be starting my rifle build that I had been wanting to do since I joined here. Going with a MDT Gen 2 LSS-XL chassis, .308 rifle (leaning towards a Savage 110). Original goal was doing the Tac21 chassis, but I think the LSS-XL will suit my needs better. Decided on .308 instead of 7mm08 because I already have a bunch of .308 ammo. Undecided on the optic but needing something no lower than 2x and upper end being 12x.
