Hey everyone!

So I have a question for you and it’s this what are your Gun Related Goals for 2023?

I’ll post mine in a bit I want to see what yours are:)

My goals aren't as ambitious as @Styx's, but I offloaded four rifles in recent weeks and plan to do some more downsizing this year--rifles and handguns. I may gift as many as I sell. The only addition I'm looking to make is a competition quality .22 rimfire.

Beyond that, my goals are to get more time at the reloading bench and range and settle on some preferred loads for the guns I'm keeping.

Thermal scope
Finish up youth 243 rifle for the kids
Another suppressor for said kids rifle
Have about 3 rifles to work up 1-2 loads on each
Sell\Trade a couple of rifles that aren't being used
Stock up on components, primers, bullets and high use powders

Overall though, just hone my skills and my kids skills with field condition shooting.

In priority order unless a good deal opportunity changes the plan:

10mm carbine,
44mag revolver, 5 to 6" barrel,
44mag carbine,
.357 carbine,
Good quality thermal scope.

I've been doing a fair amount of learning through training. Last class was in September, next one is in February. I hope to mentor others based on the things I've learned and will learn. I teach my sons, but they're still too young to be concerned with many of the concealed carry and defensive handgun skills. They hunt. They shoot handguns at the range. They do martial arts. But they don't even have driver's licenses yet, so they're not really motivated about defensive handgun skills. The few guys at church that are motivated about this are active Marines or active or retired LE. I'm not about to mentor those guys, but I think about doing some classes with them (Gunsite, Thunder Ranch, ITTS, MAG, Rogers). One of them was talking to me about holding some classes but I'm not sure we have students. The nearest IDPA club is probably going to host a 5x5 qualifier early next year and I'm hoping to get to that.

I’m hoping to add a progressive press to the reloading bench. Like to finish up the Mauser project I’m currently working on. I’d like to restock my 308 and use the stock on it currently for another of the same model with a shorter barrel. Hopefully add a magnum handgun to the fold. And I’d like to get a long range scope. oh boy… the $$$ will run out before the ideas…

I am going to slow down the firearm acquisition train I have been on for the past three years. I believe I have filled just about any need-want-desire I have, so 2023 will begin the time to go out and enjoy them.

Maybe.;)

Stay safe.

I have space to create a (very safe) 300-400 yard range. (Buying this property and building a house on it have been a 30+ year journey). I’ve got two teenagers that are interested in building it, so this summer it is going to happen…

Sell three or four

Build a lightweight 450 BM AR
Build a semi custom Savage 450 BM
Look into getting one of those new Ruger lightweight AR-10s and convert it to 45 Raptor.

Deer rifle. Don’t really care how. My old .270 is shot out and needs rebarrelled. I have tried everything I know to try to get it to shoot again but it’s just gone. With 150 gr bullets it kinda holds a group to 200 yards but it’s a foot or so at 200. At 100 yards it’s a 4 inch gun. Used to be I could stack shots using it. I had a load worked up for it that was hot as can be but shot like a dream. I guess I ate the barrel up with those.
I have a 6.8 ar that I have hunted with some but it’s heavy. My 30-30 is nice for brush but I want a bean field rifle. I may just do something in the way of a contender barrel and stock setup. I already have the frame, and stock but no 16+” barrels suitable for deer. I could SBR a frame and call it a day I guess.

To echo many of the above:
Work on my gun collections and sell off some unneeded arms that don't see much use. Make a holster or two for specific guns and applications.

In addition I have to redo some plumbing and electrical systems in my house and so on. Not firearm related, but budget related. Which effects the above noted collection process.
