What are your Gun Goals for 2023?

My gun goal for 2023 was the same as for 2022: Find a PCC I actually like. Today I was at the LGS looking for more 00 to feed a hungry Benelli M1S90 when the heavens opened up and angels were heard on high... A 9mm Springfield Saint Victor had just been received and they were placing it out for sale. l asked to see it and shortly thereafter requested a 4473. It never even made it to the display rack.

My new 2023 gun goal is to go 12 months without buying another gun as I will now have 2 kids in college. I figure every time I want to go to the LGS I will sit down and watch a Paul Harrell video. Hopefully, that will satisfy the gun craving and not cost anything. Or, it could make it worse. Only time will tell.

Lol by April you will be saying " I'll be using Remington green and white box 230gr jacketed hollow points in caliber 45 acp" every time you grab a box of ammo to go to the range... ;)

Improve my checkering skills. I've done enough to enjoy the peacefulness. Feed the wood furnace, checker, and maybe send some cast downrange, rinse repeat.

Making a new cradle out of some maple from dad's stuff. I'd say it was cut in the 1950's or so,about time to make something useful/heirloom with it? Got it mostly done, just needs to be drilled, and bolted together. Shoot some lacquer on it.

Got a nice target'y walnut stock almost done for a R700V. Needs some practical checkering in the grip area for serious varmint/field use.

One of my Prayers is that natural eyesight will allow use of the Aperture sights of my (pair of) PTR-91s to 50, maybe 100 yards.…

for at least another year.
Not predictable at my age (67)- luck might not last. Have never owned or really wanted a rifle scope, for the twenty or more rifles.

The only scope is the newish Steiner binoculars.

As the arthritis in my thumbs is getting worse, I plan on selling off a couple of semi-automatic pistols as even racking the slides is painful. I might eventually get one of the Smith and Wesson EZ pistols, but I will concentrate on revolver shooting from here on out. I will keep my Browning Hi-Power, my favorite handgun, that I have owned for nearly 40 years out of pure sentiment. I already have some snubby revolvers but I might invest in a three or four inch barrelled revolver and perhaps one of those 9mm revolvers because I have a lot of 9mm in storage.

Sell some complete uppers.
Sell two hunting rifles.
Sell a 6.5CM RPR with a very low count rounds fired.
Buy/put together a 26" rifle in 6mmGT and the reloading things for it.
Reload more to get rid of most gun powders in stock.

Fun fact: I started reloading during the pandemic, and bought the RPR as soon as one was available. Then, the reloading stuff and ammo was not available. Thus, I did not use the 6.5CM as much as my 22LR.

If you go to the store, you will succumb.

Especially if you do what I did, go to bank, withdraw $1000 cash, then stop in to the gun shop on the way home! Ha ha, that is how I came to possess my 1911. I had no idea I was going to buy a gun, but the 1911 was cool, felt great in my hand, and I kind of had been wanting a gun in .45 ACP, so it just worked out that I could not resist.

Anyhow, my immediate goal now is to return the Sig P938 that I just bought because it has the old, defective main spring which is causing the hammer to follow the slide back sometimes. It will only get worse unless I replace the spring and housing with the updated part, but that is major job and Sig does not warranty for second owners. Gun shop has two more of these so I may just trade for the other one if it has the newer style mainspring. Else, money back.

Second goal, as noted earlier is to spend the $500 gift cards I bought for $400 for this same gun shop. A big bore revolver (.40 something) might be nice.

Also want to do more shooting, but can't decide which gun to shoot next. The SA .44 Magnum would be fun, but so would the DA .45 Colt. And then I have a Bond Derringer with both .38/.357 and .45/.410 barrels. Also have some ammo coming this week in 9mm HP so would like to run some through my SD9VD.

Lastly, since I pocket carry a S&W 442 J-frame, I am wondering if I should get another one as a spare? The GS had one used for $400 and may still have it.

How much was the P938? And could you just get a P220 instead? I'd like to get a P220 in 45acp someday...

I've got a REM 700 SS ADL in 300WM that I've been modifying over the years. I originally bought it as a back-up and a "loaner" for when my FIL visited from Austria, I was stationed at Ft. Lewis WA at the time and elk was on the menu.

I've since had the bolt fluted, handle skeletonized, and M16 extractor installed. A few years ago I dropped it in a B&C "Alaskan" stock and converted it to a BDL. I also replaced the original Leupold VX3 4.5-14X40 with a Leupold VX6HD 3-18X50 with B&C Reticle in LTW Talley rings.

Weight all up is a little over 8lbs.

Last month I ordered and received a Bartlein 2B .308 barrel and ordered a Manners EH3 stock in SEPT. The stock should be here early spring, so I'm dropping the barreled action and new barrel with my smith this month so he can get started. He estimates about 3 months, so the barreled action should be done in time for the stock's arrival. It will again be chambered in 300WM (already have brass, dies etc.) and I'm having the actioned trued and the receiver milled for a bolt stop. Once done, I'm having it done in graphite black Cerakote. The jury's still out on the trigger, but I'm leaning towards a TriggerTech.

Hopefully it will all come together in time for load development this summer as I've got an elk hunt Fall of 23.

Other than that, last year I spent quite a bit of time shooting from field positions; tripod, bipod, backpack, kneeling, standing etc. in prep for a MT mulie hunt. This year I plan on continuing that, but also adding some serious hiking to get ready.

Wow, that P220 is expensive, like about 2x the cost of a P938. I probably would get another 1911 if I want the larger gun, but I like the compact size of the P938.
Ok I was just wondering what the price of a 938 is nowadays cause I thought they quit making them?
