Not sure what age has to do with this, but I'm 26 and I carry both a Glock 19 and a S&W 360.

I carry a 642 because it goes in my pocket as naturally as my keys or wallet.

tblt, my two most-carried handguns are the SIG P229 and Ruger SP101. In police uniform, the P229 rides in the duty rig, and the SP101 is concealed. I also usually keep a spare P229 with me at work, but not on my person.

On my own time, I almost always carry an SP101 snubby, plus, much of the time, one more handgun. This second handgun can be another SP101, a P229, a Ruger Speed Six, or a GP100. The second handgun may be carried off-body.

Just about the only time I will be away from home, and carrying only one snubby, is when bicycling or running. The threat profile for a person "working out" is totally different than that for a person who is going about his daily business; cyclists and runners are not expected to be carrying valuables.

FWIW, the fact I have a police badge is a large part of the reason for the multiple weapons when on my own time. A private citizen has the option of breaking contact and fleeing. I swore an oath to do otherwise. Even if I do not want to engage bad guys in a shoot-out, I am still expected to at least be a "good witness" and remain on the scene to assist in preserving life and evidence, and that could be a bit hazardous itself, if the bad guys employ a sweep or clean-up guy, who takes no active part in the main part of an incident, and remains behind to make sure thee are no loose ends that need tying.

These days, most of the time, I carry an semiauto. The snubbie lives in husband's truck as an always-available backup gun. Occasionally I'll snag it to carry it, but rarely. The Bersa .380 has pretty much taken its place for small guns. The XD-9 is more often the carry gun, in a Jagwear belt pouch. Or the Kimber Ultra Carry II.

Age? Sonny, you don't ask a lady such a question. :neener::neener::neener: (over 35 by a good spit).

Carry one of two

My two carry weapons allow me to carry regardless what time of year it is. I am more prone in the fall/winter to carry a heavier gun S&W 642 .38 or Glock 23. However most of the time I carry either my new LCP or
my S&W 351PD (.22WMR). I feel very comfortable and safe to carry either. I figure the BG is not expecting me to shoot back, so from that perspective I've got an advantage.

There was a time, long ago, when I drove a truck and joked that I was closer to my Ruger Security-Six than to my wife because that revolver and I had slept together on many more nights. That was back around 1980. I chose that handgun after reading Mel Tappan's book, "Survival Guns" and deciding that under the circumstances I'd likely need it, the revolver was more reliable and versatile. That was then.

Today, no longer trucking but with a legal CCW permit, I still have that Security-Six but rarely, in fact never, carry it. Instead it's become a nightstand gun. Either my full-sized or Officers model-sized 1911s are easier to conceal and every bit as reliable as that 4" bbl. Security-Six. Plus, they carry two or three more rounds than the revolver. If I'm carrying the Taurus PT140 .40S&W or Steyr S9 9mm then the ammo count goes up (both are 10+1) while concealability gets even easier.

I'll not claim that the autos are faster reloading than the Ruger with speedloaders but the auto reloads are definitely slimmer and conceal better.

I do have a J-frame that I've considered carrying and I probably would carry it were it not for the fact that my wife and daughter have both laid claim to it. They like it. Now that my daughter is getting her CCW I'll probably have to get a Taurus 85 or something similar to keep both women happy. They don't like the autos, recoil springs give them problems. So, for the female side of my family, it's revolvers. For me, it's almost always autos.

revolver

I'm 25 and I don't have a ccw permit so when I carry it's when I'm hunting or hiking in AZ. I prefer a revolver because If I need to use it I will likely be shooting at a greater distance than 10 yards. In southern Az desert where we have an illegal immigrant problem I usually carry a .357. In northern Az I carry a .22LR or .22 Mag.

I am 36 and carry a S&W 442, Ruger Speed Six, or a Ruger SP-101 3". While working on the farm it is a 4" GP-100.

I'm 34 and up until recently I switched off between a Taurus 817 and Kahr CW-9 (so both). I recently sold the Kahr intending to purchase another semi-auto of a larger calilber, but am now seriously considering just getting a better holster, speedloader case, and grips for the Taurus, and pocketing the rest (or purchasing an inexpensive 12 g pump shotgun for home defense).

<34 and carry a Karh K9 and/or Seecamp LWS32.

Interesting poll and results. Seems to be a greater disparity between autos and wheels with the younger crowd.

I"m 57 and usually pocket carry the 642 because it's just so easy to do. Just got a pocket holster for the Kimber UCII from UBG, so we'll see if it'll ride in my pocket without printing. I prefer the .45 cal to .38spec, and auto to revolver, but the 642 has been hard to beat.

I'm 52 and I carry a Kahr MK9 Elite 98.
I used to carry a Taurus 605.
However, I figured that, even with .357mag, 5 possibly wouldn't be enough.
With the Kahr, I have initially seven 9mm and 14 more in my pocket!!
Gangpunks do not roam in numbers less than three!! ;)

I have a 9mm, but since I got my pocket holster it's just too easy to drop the Model 36 s&w in my pocket and go.

So I voted Revolver, I'm 26.

Answer to post... I purchased single stack autoloader for pocketcarry (Kahr PM9) and its what I have. I now carry this in pocket and SmartCarry holster.

I want to add that I can also carry wife's J-frame in the same Smartcarry holster. Add a speedstrip to J frame and get similar number of rounds as PM9 w/ extra mag.

I voted Revolver, over 35, but I need to clarify.

If I can only carry one gun then let it be an Autoloader, prefer a Glock 19. I carry three guns off duty, all Revolvers. This gives me two NY Reloads. The Autoloader has the Revolver beat in terms of reloading speed and ammo capacity, but I prefer the power variability of the Revolver and the fact that "if it fits in the cylinder I can shoot it".

I may decide to switch it up a little bit next year and carry a Glock 19/26 combo, as well as my J-Frame, but I may not. One thing about carrying a Revolver, I don't have to worry about any jurisdiction's magazine capacity laws. :)

I grew up in the age of the 125 Grain .357 Magnum being "The King of the Street" and have yet to find an Autoloader with the same proven track record. For me, if something works I don't plan to fix what isn't broke.

Couldn't vote. I'm > 35, and carry either a revolver or a semiauto depending on situation. Can't say I really favor one over the other at this point.

almost 40 and I carry both depending on circumstances.

The one place I will only carry a revolver is when 4 wheeling/hiking etc. usually its a stainless 4" .22 or maybe a 357.
More often than not its the 22, its light, easy to carry and cheap to shoot.

For ccw I go either way depending on situation. I can carry a 642 in a light clip on IWB while wearing elastic waist shorts and not worry about it weighing them down.
For full dress I prefer a larger semi auto for the hi cap, but I will also carry my 686 @ times also.

Why choose?

I carry a Smith Centennial AND a Glock.

Problem is, I can't tell you why--I've got a reasonable collection, but somehow I've gravitated to these two.

I think we all can agree that revolvers and semi-autos each have their distinct advantages--so why not have your cake and eat it, too?

Oh, yeah: As you can guess from the fact that I even know the word "Centennial," I'm 35 (or older ).

I agree with Rmart and anyone else who says that (if you can) you should tailor what you carry to your environment--different environment, consider different carry piece(s).

Still, there is that saying about respecting the man with only one gun--he probably knows how to use it. Given the choice between being backed-up by an expert with a single-shot pistol and a dufus with a high-cap, optics-sighted race gun--well, I know who'd I choose.;)

I didn't vote because I carry both, depending on what I'm wearing.

I carry either a S&W 642 or some sort of Sig (P239, P229, P226, or P220)

I just don't trust bottom feeders. I've had Ruger, Beretta, EAA, I've shot Glock, Colt, Walther, Bersa just too many to count and most did well but they all jam on occasion. And anybody that tells you different is................not going there.

I've had and shot many more revolvers with most never jamming. Actually the jams I've ever had in revolvers are from poorly seated primers in reloads.

So I just tend to stick with the odds, a revolver is more likely to always function.

I carry a Taurus Mil-Pro 40 DAO, its a sweet shooting gun, the trigger is smooth as butter after 3700 rounds, and I actually like the DAO trigger. I'm very accurate with this gun and I'm very comfortable with my abilities, using this gun.
