What do you do with your carry gun when you are home?

I am an old reprobate. My S&W 838 is in my pants pocket 24/7, There is a locked and loaded 1911 .45 ACP under my pillow. By the back patio door there is a locked and loaded AR. Just to the right of the front door there is a 12 Ga. 870 loaded with #8 bird shot. I have a CZ-83 in the console of my truck. I haven't locked a door in 20+ years. Any vehicle that comes down my 1,400 ft drive way sets off 2 alarms. Any body that wanted to walk that one way in and one way out 1/4 mile drive would have to get by my outside dog and then my 2 yelpers inside.

I never lock my doors because if I am gone they would just throw a rock through a door or window doing more damage. And just what am I afraid of... not a durn thing.

After a lot of thought, I think a small wall safe in the garage wall is the way to go. Right next to the garage opener....

I have a similar wall safe available near the bedroom. It has worked well for a handgun, small jewelry & whatever my wife decides to put in there. It should keep the casually curious away from the contents.

When I'm out and about I always carry but when I get home I put it into a drawer in the kitchen. I have a 1911 in the night stand and in my computer room I have two other pistols and a loaded AR. I'm hardly ever in our 3rd bedroom so none in there and I haven't gone so far as to put one in the bathrooms.

Nightstand. The kids are grown with kids of their own. When and if someone visits with children then out of sight, out of mind. When home I don't feel a need to wear a gun but it depends on where you live and what each individual is comfortable with. Anyway, on my nightstand and every time I go out I don't wear a gun. Just depends on where and when.

My carry gun and spare ammo goes on the shelf in the hallway closet when I get home. But for the ladies that might be following this thread - my wife's carry gun stays in her purse, which she hangs on a peg in her side of the bedroom closet when she gets home. However, my wife's and my situation might be different than other folk's situations, because even though my wife often tells me to "GROW UP," at 65 she's still the youngest person in this house most of the time.:)

When I'm dressed, its is on my hip. On the dresser when its time for bed. In my hand when there is a "bump in the night"....gotta' go check!

Looked at a shooting magazine today...it posed a question..."Do you need a home carry gun?" I'm all for any chance (good excuse) to add a new gun...but....I have a carry gun. And three more hand guns...so I think I'm covered! I just thought it was a funny title and kind of went along with what we're talking about.

I've said this before but I think leaving various guns stashed through out the house is a horrible idea. You are far more likely to lose them in a burglary than to use them to defend yourself and every gun increases the odds of you having to face an armed burglar in your home.

I keep my guns on my person or on my nightstand when I'm at home. If I leave the house they are locked up. Except the one I'm carrying of course.

YMMV

When I'm not carrying my guns go back in the safe. I have one gun got home defense and that's in the nightstand. No kids or grandkids at home.

I keep my friends loaded and where it would be the easiest for me to use if needed. My firearms are all lazy by their very nature and are redundantly located for that reason. They have to be exersized and kept clean. I really enjoy shooting them too.I hope they stay lazy and I am never to use one for any reason other than all other options have been taken away. We have no small children and my daughter never bothered them when she was small. I simply taught her not to touch them. I am fortunate to live in a State where carry is legal without a permit but I applied in July of 1990 when the law changed to shall issue a concealed carry permit and still have it. I have a safe in the shop. keeping up with the dehumidifing effort is a chore in the humid south for sure. I always have one under my pillow too. Your personal circumstances, location, and common sense will dictate hou handle your carry friend. Be safe and most of all I hope we are all lucky and have no problem forced upon us.

If not on my person, in my nightstand ... unless guests are coming over, in which case it goes in the safe.

I use a small deposit type safe to hold our carry/hd guns except for the walthe r ppq 45 that I carry at home in a small hard c ase with a full e xtra magazine

I leave the loaded carry guns in the safe with the door open. In the event of a failure of my primary gun(ppq 45), I have another ppq 45, a glock 19 and 2 S+W shields ready to rock if needed

I keep all my guns loaded in a locked safe ,which I practice opening as quickly as possible. Around the house I carry one of my guns in OWB holster and when I leave the property carry pants pocket.

I have no kids so I have a loaded HK45 in the nightstand next to the bed all the time. My XDs is in my reloading table loaded and holstered when I'm not carrying it. My HK P30SK is in the chair side table, loaded and holstered when I'm not carrying it.

pants on = gun on.

At night I put it in my bathroom cupboard. Seems odd, but I get dressed in the bathroom so it is convenient.
