What have you done in the reloading room today

Great all-around powder for sure. I stopped using it in my early 9mm reloading days because I was always at minimum loading and there was a bit of unburnt powder, so it was too dirty for my use in 9mm back then In my early reloading days, I typically loaded at rock bottom powder charges. I was learning and felt safe with minimum loads. Unfortunately, I didn't have access to a forum like this back then, since the internet was not a "Thing" yet. We are really lucky today to have a tool like this forum.

I also loaded iUnique in 12 ga target loads for Trap, but switched to Winchester WST after a year or so.

I look forward to loading with it again.
I made a joke tonight that alliant needs to change the name from unique to unicorn.

I like prime-on-press with the Rock Chucker, but the feel isn't there. This looks like it will do the trick.
I started using the Lee Hand Prime back in the ‘80’s after I saw a fella handloading at the range with a Lee Loader kit and a Hand Prime. It just seemed way slicker than on-press.

Then I got into foreign rifle cartridges and discovered the Ram Prime. If you want to seat a stubborn primer, there’s your answer.

Today’s a work day - another day, another 39-cents after taxes, adjusted for inflation - so nothing much I can do but I did arrange all the cases and bullets I have ready for priming on my desk so I can do a few tonight. I already have enough loaded ammo stocked up for several years of shooting at my current pace so I’m not in any hurry.

Waiting for my “free” concierge pick up for car servicing. It is convenient but yes I know I’m paying for it.

In the meantime I’ve finished cleaning and prepping both the 45acp & 9mm I shot yesterday and will prime/expand 9mm once car is gone.

When I load them, I will continue to use 4.5gr Sport Pistol w/115gr Berry’s plated RN for 9mm. I really like that combo.

Good morning gents.

My back is not happy with me this morning. Mild pain caused by the contortion and work putting that insulation above my sunroom in the garage attic. Not much space up there and I was in unusual positions trying to get the insulation put down. I just need a few days of easy living and Motrin and it will be fine.

I will head out to the bench later this morning and finally set up my new-old-stock Midway Vibrator Cleaner. It's finally time to see if it works after sitting around new but unused for 20 years. Then some 45 Colt reloads.

I forgot to mention, I ordered this "Printed" powder trickler from eBay. Under 20 bucks shipping included. The seller said he polishes all contact points, so it works smoothly. I am anxious to try it out. I wanted something light to get a kit together for working up loads at the range, now that I have a Lee Hand Press and an RCBS Compact digital portable Scale.

The Rock Chucker is all I have ever known. I like the feel of priming on-press with the Rock Chucker, BUT, I have nothing to compare it to, so I take your word for it regarding "the feel isn't there."
Me too. But some primers seat like melted butter, others hard as concrete with the POP option. I dislike the hand squeezers. This thing looks like the cat's pajamas: lots of leverage, quick swap between small and large primer cups (without unscrewimg things and risking losing that super tiny spring) and the kind of leverage you need. The YT reviews were really good, and you don't run the risk of losing an eye with the angled pop tubes...LOL!

Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense. I watched the YT reviews after your post. The reviews are stellar. Something to put on the "Maybe" list for me. I am putting the finishing touches on my recently relocated bench today and tomorrow, and that's it for a while. But you know how it is. A month from now I will probably start thinking, "Hmmm.... maybe I should get the priming tool..."

Speaking of hand squeezers.. I have the rcbs universal squeezer. I bought it used on an auction site. It was 1/2 price of retail. It works very well and I like it. Needed to switch to large primers and in the box were no large primer parts! No chute, no plunger, etc. I call rcbs to purchase the missing parts. The nice gentleman on phone says the goodies are in the mail. I say do you take Mastercard? “It’s no charge sir”. “But it’s a pre owned deal and in need to buy the missing parts”. No sir. The parts weren’t in the box. He wouldn’t let me pay for them! I told him I’m a customer for life and thank you very much. All my dies are Rcbs minus the new lee FCD that just came in 👍

Wow. Actual full-on customer service. That's a rarity in today's commerce. I'm glad you posted this. I have always liked RCBS. Now, I admire them.

There are many, many threads here and on other boards about RCBS’ stellar customer service. Dillon and Hornady occasionally get equal praise but not like Team Green.

Personally, I don’t know. I have never had to call any of them. The stuff I have just works.

I have had the same results with RCBS. My son borrowed my 505 scale and misplaced the powder pan. I called to purchase one and same thing...even after explaining the situation they refused to let me pay for it, or the shipping to get it here. 5 stars and I'm Team Green customer for life.

Same here. I have never called them. Recently some Website ordering of parts that I lost, but no contact. I ordered a new primer catcher tray a few weeks ago because I lost the retaining plastic clip for mine and could not find just the clip. I bet if I called them, they would have either sent me a new clip or the whole primer catcher and clip free of charge. But the transaction was only 11 bucks. I figure for a company as good as RCBS, they are worth a sawbuck plus one.

Besides, now I have TWO primer catchers. I can always wear one as a fun party hat.

A friend flew here from Dallas and brought me 50 once fired 7mm Mag cases.

I tumbled them yesterday, resized them today and they are tumbling again before trimming, cleaning primer pockets, chamfering and deburring them.
I'll use some gmax 139s or Nosler 140 Bts.

I got my Lee Hand Press today. I got the kit, so it has the Lee Precision Ram Primer tool included (new black case rather than the tube they used to ship in), a funnel and sizing lube.

I have an RCBS portable digital scale coming by Friday. I have a Lee Universal Decapping/Depriming Tool coming. And shell holders for cartridges I frequently load. I don't want to pilfer my bench for accessories like that and then have to search for them later when I realize they are missing from my bench. And I'll probably get new RCBS die kits for the Lee so I don't disturb the setting from my Hornady dies that I use on my Rock Chucker. I was going to try Lee Precision dies, but after the posts earlier about RCBS, I will probably give them some business on new dies for the Lee.

QUESTION;
Other than what I have coming, is there anything else the members here that have this press would recommend? I would appreciate the suggestion(s). Thanks.

I make it a practice to have a shell holder for the specific cartridge in every die case. I also have an extra one on the bench. I also have another in my “bench in a box“. It’s amazing how many times I still can’t find the right shell holder…

Thanks. I agree. I am putting together a COMPLETE "Range Reloading Kit" that will have ALL the accessories that I need separate from my reloading bench tools and accessories. Including all the shell holders I need, and separate die kits. I really want to make this system totally stand-alone. I didn't quite realize this when ordering, but this press incorporates the newer Lee BREACH LOCK system. It comes with a standard die screw insert adapter if you want to go that direction with standard screw in dies, but I think I would like to try the Breech Lock Lee dies, at least one set. Or if not, then I'll get the Breech Lock BUSHINGS so I can put them on RCBS dies and convert them to Breech lock. If I did go with Lee dies, I know that Lee dies come with the shell holder. At least they used to ship with shell holders.

They have eliminated the push-button lock that they had on the initial Breech lock hand presses, and included a simple plastic wrench for stubborn twist out breech lock rings. I think it's a pretty good design improvement for rapid die changes in the field. Just 1/4 twish and your die is perfectly seated or easily removed.

I've been team green for a long time. The just always help and do right by me so I just keep handing them my money. If you get into 223 or 45c the bench primer with shell holders is wonderful... I have and run both.

Agreed. From my Rock Chucker to RCBS dies to Shell holders, scale(s) and on and on, RCBS has been great since day one. My original RCBS digital scale, circa 1995 ish, is STILL going strong and is STILL accurate. Amazing.

Funny you should mention 45c and 223. I just got into 45 Colt about a month ago. I love that cartridge and am amazed it took me so long to get into that grand caliber. As a Western fan and horse owner, it's nostalgic and fun to shoot in a six-gun. I may get a 45c Lever at some point.

And for decades I have thought about getting a 223. My issue is I never wanted to do down the "Necked" cartridge path, so I only did 38/357 in a Lever rifle to stick with straight walled cartridges. But it may be time to expand my reloading horizon with 223 later this year or early next.

Thanks for the tip on the RCBS Bench Primer. I have looked at that. I can see that being very handy on the bench.
