The first guns I ever shot were blackpowder rifles and pistols as my Dad was a huge BP guy, buckskinner and hunter. I learned and was weaned on BP and it is now one of my main hobbies too. All those early guns I now own of course as well as my own additions.

For my 12th or 13th bday (30 years ago already), can't remember which, my Dad bought me a Ruger 10/22. I absolutely loved it and still do. Of course, I still have it and would NEVER get rid of it. That little rifle has been everywhere, shot so many rounds and still to this day works great. Its got tons of sentimental value. I love it. In addition I also own my Dad's Remington Nylon 66. It's highly sentimental also and actually a really cool rifle unto itself.

First pistol I bought with my own money was an FEG .380. Sold that ages ago as I shot more and learned more about handguns.

First modern rifle I bought with my own money was a Norinco SKS that I purchased back in oh '90-'91 or so? I paid $69 for it with all the accessories. I still have it and still love it. It's another one I'd never sell. It's funny seeing them sell for around $350-$400 now.

first firearm? Springfield model 1899 carbine. A great old rifle, still have it (and probably every .30-40 Krag case I ever fired through it) I still remember the old-timer at the bench next to me at the range telling me, 'boy save your brass, there'll come a time when those rounds will be hard to get'. 25yrs later I was asking my LGS to keep 2 boxes on the shelf for me since I couldn't find them anywhere. It's what got me into reloading.

First gun received was a Savage model 24 over-under 22/20 gauge as a Christmas present in 7th grade. I still have it.

Second gun received was a Glenfield model 60 22 auto as a birthday present. It was stolen in 1991-may they burn in hell!

First gun I bought depends of whether straw man purchases count? I paid for a gorgeous new S&W model 19 in 1981, but my Dad actually bought it because I was a senior in HS and not yet 21. I still have it and it's still beautiful. It's easily the most accurate revolver I've ever owned.

The first gun I filled out a 4473 form for was a Winchester 1200 shotgun which I just never learned to love and traded for a Browning BPS some years later at a gun show.

At age 12 my first gun was purchased for me by my dad. A used Stevens model 22-410 over under for $24. At 60 years old, I still have it. It has always been a great squirrel gun for me. My son shot his first squirrel with it and waiting for my grandchildren to get their chance.

Did the barrel look like this one

1976. I was 19. A friend was recently married and, naturally, needed money. His mom came to me and told me their situation and would I be interested in buying this gun from him. What could I say?

So I've had this really nice Ruger New Model Blackhawk (with vent rib, mind you! haha) in my nightstand for 36 years. I'm guessing I've run 500 to a thousand rounds through it, maybe.

I did have to add stag grips to it a few years after I got it, 'cause, you know, Matt Dillon and Dan Troop had 'em!

Ruger 10/22, 1982. Still have it, somewhere. Left it a home when I went in the service, and my father keeps forgetting to bring it out to the left coast with him when he visits, which isn't that often.

Westernfield 410 Single shot Bolt Action

I still have it in my gun case. I was 12 or there about, it needs work but it is still a shooter and I love it.

Ruger Bearcat. I bought it when I was 10 or so for $31.95, brand new in the box. Still have it, still take it to the range from time to time, and still highly recommend it to new shooters.

1st & 2nd GUN

In 1963 I bought 2 rifles a couple of months a part. A Marlin 39-A and a model 43 WIN 218 BEE. Still have both of them and I still hunt with both of them quite often. They are like old friends and I have carried them maney miles and have always been very proud of them. I enjoy taking them for walks in the woods But now my walks are not as often and not quite as far. GOOD LUCK TO YOU: ken

My father treated firearms as tools. Hence, if I wanted to borrow a tool it was there to be used. 30-30, model 12, .22 bolt, were there to be used. First gun puchased, S&W mod 28 highway patrol 6 inch, from Montgomery Ward. I have been an NRA instuctor since 1974 and I have long since lost count of the students who have shot their first groups with that model 28, or that .22 rifle. I still have all of the above.

First thing that shoots that I bought was a Crossman 760 BB gun. Many pigeons fell prey to it and it's still with me. First firearm was a Rem 700 BDL left hand in 30-06. Still have that too.

The first gun I received was a Benjamin Air rifle that my great grandfather gave me. It won't be long an I will be passing it down to my son. The first gun I purchased for myself was a Parker-Hale Safari Deluxe (30-06).

In 1968, I inherited my dad's Win Model 62A .22 and still have it. Love it. Second gun was one I bought in 1970, a Ruger Single-Six .22 (for $55), and still have that. Then same year, I bought an original Win Mod 97 riot gun (for $97) but had to sell that 10 years later because I needed the $$.

My father's uncle gave me a Winchester model 1906 .22 rifle when I was ten. It was made in 1910, an early 'Standard' with the smooth forearm.

Don't know its history past my great uncle, but I still have it, and it will stay in the family.

My first gun was a Savage/Stephens 20 gauge break action single. I was maybe 12 and it was a Christmas present. First gun I ever bought would be a Chinese SKS carbine. I still have the SKS; the shotgun went to my little brother when I left for college.

My first was my Marlin Model 60. My dad gave it to me when I was about 8 and I still have it. I'll be passing it on to my kids or grandkids someday, though I think they will get a bolt action first.

My first gun of my own was a Taurus .357 revolver. The gentleman that taught me to shoot handguns always stated that "you learned to be proficient with a revolver before you pick up a semi-auto."
I know it did teach me skills that I would not have learned had I started with a semi-auto. However after just over a year, and countless rounds, I traded it in on my first 1911. That was back in 1989, and I've had at least one 1911 ever since.

My father bought a Ruger Bearcat to teach me to shoot on when I was 6. Just right for small hands and wide eyes! Remington Model 7 in .243 followed the next year. I'm so thankful for these memories with him, and we still go shooting whenever we get together. I plan to do the same thing with my kids and can only hope that they will value that experience too.
I still have both the Bearcat and the Model 7, and will teach my kids on them too...might go for a .22 rifle first though, that light .243 gave me a flinch that took a few years to cure!
