+1 on THR. My gun, ammo, and accessory buys have a been a great deal more informed in the last year or two.

Example: I wouldn't have heard of a Vepr much less known what to buy for an AK. I like that rifle. Not to mention money saved buying better quality AK and AR magazines.

The best value and best price (rarely the same) is this GP100 that I picked up for under $200. It's one of the most pleasurable guns I've fired.

From my favorite gun shop...2 S&W revolvers, a 586 for $75 and my mod 19 for $200 :D
Oh, and I guess looking back, my NIB P7M8 OTD for $700 :D

From the look of my gun rack it would have to be my curio and relics license, though my bank manager and wife would disagree.

Best value...

One of the ol' boys down the range gave me his
LEE progressive press
LEE .38 dies
approx 3000 .38 cases
x2 LEE hand primers
an RCBS powder thrower
and a set of scales!!

As I have a .44 gun, I managed to swop the .38 dies and cases for a set
.44mag dies and a .44 bullet mold with another member of the club:D

Two days ago I bought a Blackhawk

.357/9mm convertible for $225. I sold it the same day for $400.
The real winner is my brother, who bought six Nazi marked lugers in the hexagonal wooden case, unopened, for $300. I heard recently that more than ten thousand bux won't buy that now.

My Remington bolt action 22

Bought it for 60 or 70 bucks from a friend 20 years ago back in high school. Put a round dead center through a 30 carbine case on a bet at roughly 20 feet.

Okay, I love it for that shot, but I had witnesses. Still have the rifle, will probably never part with it even though it's really nothing special.

20 years ago I bought an Argentine Browning High Power for $230 and it's been a great gun.

A while back I bought a Mosin 91/30 from a friend for $40 because, according to him, it just wouldn't shoot straight. He figured it had a slight bend in the barrel, a rough crown, something. It had a bubbaed stock (actually it looks pretty cool with about 12 feet of barrel sticking out from the shortened stock, IMO) but I figured 40 bucks for a hex receiver 91/30 - what the heck.

I got it home and checked the bore - it looked like it was worn down almost smooth (I could see lines where it looked like rifling used to be). I ran a patch through it and it came out a little dirty, so I figured a little solvent and a bore brush was in order. After a couple of dozen pitch-black patches I got the fouling out and revealed pretty crisp rifling for a 70 year old milsurp.

I took it to the range and it is at least as accurate as I am with open sights at 100 yards. Next step is to put a scope on it and see what it'll really do.

The only problem I have now is convincing myself to spend more on glass than I did on the rifle :D

First and foremost:
$280 Winchester 94 the day they announced they were shutting down US production.

Honorable mention:
$250 for a NIB Ket-tec Hard Chrome P-3at. Size/Weight to power and cost to reliability, so far, have been outstanding.

The best gun related money I ever spent was on a Volquartsen drop-in hammer for my Ruger 10-22 rifle, to improve the trigger pull. The difference was night and day! What an absolutely great value.
An analagy would be like trying to shoot pool with a 2X4, as opposed to a top-of-the-line, high dollar cue stick.

Purchase:
I bought a 1903A3 in very good condition last year for $250. I haven't seen one for less than $600 since then. (Most are in poorer shape.)

Time:
Teaching my then girlfriend, now wife of ten years, that guns aren't something to be afraid of. She's, of course, now a better shot than me.

I bought a Mossberg 500 in 20 ga. from a buddy for $25 who had no use for it. The gun was in nice shape. Gave it to my father-in-law as a birthday present. Boy was he pleased!

"How To Become A Master Handgunner : The Mechanics Of X-Count Shooting", by Charles Stephens. About $12 at your local bookstore.

$250 like new Beretta Mini Cougar 8040. Came with a Galco Shoulder holster with double mag pouch, and a mil-spec pistol case. Also ammo, and 3 extended magazines. I didn't care much for the short grip, so I just sold it to a friend for $400.
