I'm living in Portland Oregon and might move to Seattle soon. I currently have a 10/22 and the XDm 9.
My goal is to get at least one good gun for each of the major uses; shotgun for HD and one for slug and wing, bolt long range rifle, lever for michigan deer (took my 13 pt with a 30/30 at 15yo.), some sort of AK/AR/PTR90, 22lr pistol, a 1911, a Glock to hang in the shower, something smaller to CCW, and something bigger to toss in the pack for the large 4 legs.

I plan on getting out into the wilderness as much as possible before i move on to a new region so I think a large revolver is my next purchase. I have seen the debate on here about whether .380 is good for a pack gun and know there is a lot of 357 fans for this task; is there anything else i should consider?

Also, what if anything am I missing in my list of must haves?

Thanks!

how 'bout taking your xdm9 over to thunder ranch oregon for a couple days? might seriously influence your next few purchases

You have to add at least one Bolt Action Milsurp to the list. Every gun owner has to have one old Bolty Warhorse. Mauser, Mosin, Enfield, Springfield, Arisaka, even dare I say a Carcano. Gotta have one of them. Then you'll buy more and it'll never end.

The Shower Glock although I can see a justification for it. I seriously think you need to up the security at your domicile if you need a Glock in the shower. This comes from a guy that carries 24/7 anywhere it's legal.

@ taliv
I am sure it would but I would rather ask for some free advise from people that seem to know what there talking about around here and save the cash for another gun.
Unless your saying I can show up at the gate with my gun in hand and the above written on a piece of cardboard. ;P

@2RCO
I had too. Shower Glock is funny.

AR 10 and I am going to do it right maybe a POF or an LWRC in 18 inch barrrel, don't know if I want an ACOG or nice long range scope mounted on it.

...XD40, sub-compact (for carry)

All else (ARs, AKs, high dollar 1911s, etc.) are just icing for me, certainly not "must haves."

My next 2 purchases are going to be a precision rifle and a STI or SVI 2011 pattern pistol.

The rifle will probably be chambered in .308 and set up for 600-800 meter shooting. I haven't decided on a bolt gun or an AR platform.

The pistol will be in .40 S&W and set up for USPSA Limited class.

Now I just need to convince myself to spend the $3000 each to get what I want.:uhoh:

I'm buying a Springfield loaded ultra compact 9mm back from a friend of mine. I sold it in a fit of foolishness a few years ago and now he is buying a house and agreed to sell it back to me. I won't let it go this time :D.

There are two that I would really like to own; Remington Model 37 Rangemaster (22) and a Winchester Model 52 sporter (22).

Rtlan, your list is pretty general. But you have the right idea. Each firearm choice serves a purpose. Sometimes you just want whatever to try out because you hear good things about them. I think a 357, 41 or 44 mag revolver would fill the hiking pack firearm. If you are truly going to hike long distances, I would go with the most lightweight models. The gun is strictly for business.

I just got the last gun I wanted and now just need to keep them all "fed" and to that end, I picked up the last set of dies for every caliber I shoot (not counting .22lr). All I am lacking is .380 projectiles!

No guns for me, just ammo! Lot's and lot's of 9mm ammo! :D

*If I can ever find any of the d@mn stuff?

Lately, I've developed an urge for a Win Model 88 in .308. I don't know why. I don't deer hunt anymore and I have a CZ 550 Varmint in .308 and a CZ 550 in .30-06. Can't justify it but who ever said we gun owners needed a reason?

I didn't hear you mention a black powder rifle, how about a compound bow, and I understand that a nice sub compact XD 45 is on the horizon from Springfield, so hold the horses and 'wait for it.'

Kimber Tac Entry II 1911 5 inch .45 with rail

then

Kimber SIS 1911 3 inch .45

then

Springfield squad scout .308

then

Dillon 550B
:D

I don't NEED anything else...I've already got my bases covered...As for what I WANT to buy next???

1) An AK variant rifle....Perhaps an authentic Romanian or Yugo...Hell, If I had the money and time to spare, I'd opt for an authentic Russian model...
2) A .44 magnum revolver, perhaps either a Ruger Redhawk with full length underlug or a Smith and Wesson 629, also, with a full length underlug
3) A .30-06 rifle...Perhaps just a good old fashioned M1 Garand..I wanted a Mosin-Nagant, but with the M1 Garand, the Mosin-Nagant is pish posh compared to the legendary status and performance of the Garand; and no, you can not compete a Mosin-Nagant with a Garand...That is my personal opinion, but I STRONGLY believe it is fact..
