Which 9mm would you choose?

Notice any pattern in the recommendations?

kahr, glock, s&w, glock, xd, glock, beretta, glock, walther, glock....

Friends don't let friends own or shoot Glocks. Despite the claims of Glock fan boys and girls Glocks do not always go bang and are not always reliable.

Glock 17 acquired on the local market in unnamed country. Cleaned and lubed it. Dry fired it etc. When I needed it to go bang and my life depended it it just went click. Cleared it click again. Was not the ammo. I was lucky the other guy missed several times. Love the sound of rounds zinging by. No body armor. Lowered shoulder and took him down and got control of his weapon. Years playing real football ie rugby finally paid off. End of story.

Other team members had similar issues with Glocks on rare occasions. We hated using Glocks and would only do so if no other choice existed. Spears, rocks and throwing feces were preferred over Glocks.

Va herder

So what do you recommend, so I can counter with some equally absurd cliches about your favorite brand?

Do you smell that?

Sounds like BS to me. In my experience, a sack of Glock 17s and 19s that one of the IPs in our area had stolen and then stashed in the local sewer/drinking water/canal that had been there for the better part of a week all proved themselves functional after Iraqi maintenance- that is to say, literally slathered in butter or some sort of not-gun-oil, rinsed out, and generally filthy. At least, the IPs using them on the pistol qual range our battalion ran them through didn't seem to have problems.

My Beretta-92, on the other hand....well, it rusted after light rains. Very, very annoying.

I will never trust my life to a gun, because it is a tool. However, if I am ever again in a situation where I rely on my tools to protect my life, a Glock is pretty close to the top of where any pistol can be on that list.

They just work.

Local football field in unnamed country. acquired football pads locally. cleaned and checked laces, etc. did nothing when lowered shoulder and tried to tackle him.. was not the gatorade. I was lucky defensive line missed several times. Drew G-19 and shot him. years of shooting finally paid off. end of story.
Other team members had problems with pads and training all the time. would prefer sports bras and nerf balls to football pads.

To the OP: remember how I said in my earlier post that gun guys are strongly opinionated? Well, here's mine. ;)

I say none of the above. Do your self a favor and look for a used S& W 3913
While I love the 3913, here's my beef with it (and hence why I just sold mine): for its size and weight, you might as well carry a 6906 and add four more rounds, or carry a G19 and add seven more rounds. While its slimness aids in concealing it, the height and length basically cancel out any advantage you get with the slimness. I decided that the two fewer rounds of a Kahr PM9 was worth the tradeoff for its increased ability to conceal it (not to mention pocket carry on occasion). Plus the PM9 practically weighs half as much as a 3913 (well, I didn't think to weigh my 3913 before I sold it, so I can't really say).

(If I didn't already have a 6906, I would have kept the 3913 -- but no point in having two 3rd-gen S&Ws that don't get shot much. Let someone else enjoy the love. :) )

Just my $0.02...

I chose a Glock 26. This was 5.5 years ago. It was a very good decision I would happily make again.

I love my G19 though.

I picked up a CW9 a few months back and use it as my carry gun. It carries very easily in a Supertuck holster and it's easy to forget about it sometimes. I thought about the Glock 26 but really liked the feel of the Kahr. It was a very close choice. The Kahr is a lot more accurate than I expect from such a small gun. Recoil is not an issue (9mm) and the trigger while DOA, is not at all bad. It's very smooth. I've only put about 350 rnds through it so far but it's been a good gun. No complaints other than the fact that mags are pretty high unless you get them from CDNN.
This isn't really a complaint but I don't like the fact that you are not supposed to simply drop a round into the chamber of the CW9 and then fire it. I believe this can break the extractor. Kahr recommends loading from the mag only. No big deal. I think that Keltec has the same issue.
Kahr also recommends having the slide locked open, inserting a loaded mag and then releasing the slide to load the weapon instead of slingshotting it. I'm not crazy about this but I haven't had an issue with slingshotting it yet.

I hate when people ask. "Should I get A or B"?, and someone answers, "get C".

So forgive me, but if I were shopping for a new 9mm, it would be, hands down, the new Kimber Solo Carry. That is one beautiful firearm.

I have an SR9c, and have carried it IWB some with a Crossbreed holster. I'd like something a little more compact. Also my SR9c can be a little finicky about ammunition. With cheap ammo I get some light primer strikes, and the round will fail to fire.

With good ammo it works great, and I really like it at the range.

AJChenMPH you just made my choice that much more difficult
Sorry. Just wait until you see how many really good 9mm pistols are out there. :D

I went through a similar process as you did last year, and I think (notice the caveat) I've finally settled on the carry system that works for me: the Kahr PM9. However, while I can comfortably shoot 100 rounds through it with no problem, I wouldn't consider it a true range gun nor a pistol I'd take to a class (which is why I have other pistols). It's also a bit more expensive than your original three choices.

Get the glock if you want a dependable, reliable, easy to take care of pistol...nuff said.

If for whatever reason you dont like glocks then i suggest you might wanna look at the rugers.

If rugers are not your thing then may i suggest you look back at the glocks again.

It all comes down to which one you like. They will all get the job done.

I had a G26 and switched to a M&P9c because I started casting bullets and didn't want to spend money on a new barrel to shoot lead through my G26.

If you dont want to shoot lead G26.

If you will shoot lead then SR9c.

I should be able to make this purchase within a week. Thank you to everyone that has replied to this topic. Starting to lean toward the Glock 19 but there have been many great suggestions and my decision has not been made yet. Once again thanks. You guys are the best.

I guess at some point I will go through this thread and count the votes. Wonder who is the winner?

Glock will get the most votes. The greatest number of newer shooters and non reloaders are also your likely Glock base.;)
